i had this album on 8 track but that's been gone for many years. i hadn't heard this song in so long. It's still fantastic. Great 70s rock music..very early 70s Michigan sound. I love it, Kiddos!
This is my favorite song of that decade. I don't understand why it doesn't get more airplay. I suppose it's why the song is even more special to me. Minnesota sure does know how to make some real musical talent. These played in the clubs here till they moved to California where this song became the song that finally got these guys the national recognition they so deserved.
My favorite early 70s band--when I heard this song I immediately went and bought the album. Then I heard Dead and Gone and that sealed it. Thank you for putting this on You Tube. 40 years young!
LOVE the old St. Louis Bands!!!...Grew up on the north side, Hyde Park area...Looking for some billy Peek & Rondo's Blues Deluxe...Sure would appreciate any uploads of these two groups...Rock On...
I remember seeing them at the old River Serpent under the bridge in the Mississippi in the early 70s. Danced like a fool that night with my long hair, no shirt and my beautiful girl friend. Still have the double vinyl album.

Having perused so many of these, well KSHE Classics, as I look at them anyway, for the last couple years, it seems a little community has been created. So many of the artists, or their families have actually commented. That makes you feel like you're there in line for autographs. Born just in 1970, my greatest joy is to seek out and find these gems. Now with so many of you out there, (special hat tip to fkngrvrmj) many of these songs are within grasp. Thank you so much. Rizzoweb1. GYPSY!
I have been searching for this tune forever! I couldn't find it until just now. I happened on this while rebooting all of my settings. I think this has to be one of the top five songs of it's era. Rock on boys!
I Opened for Gypsy in summer of '73, last night of the HOME Nighclub. i have the recording of my playing drums but not of Gypsy. My older brothers band was the opener, i joined in. Bill Lordan had left which broke my heart as i wanted to meet him. I was 12. My brother Paul love, In the garden. Paul dies from a drug induced suicide in '71, he loved Gypsy. Years later Bill Lordan would be my Judge in the MN best drummer contest around 1991, voted me best drummer.
@johnbambammorgan I lived right up the road form The Home Bar and used to see them whenever they were in town. But then, I followed them well before they were at Home, seeing them many times at the U of M. One of my favorite bands of all time, and certainly my favorite Minnesota band. I got to know James (Owl) when I was in the pro audio business there. GREAT STUFF STILL. I am going to make it my goal to get a local band here (Vero Beach, Fl) to learn some of their stuff.
@johnbambammorgan Well I'll be damned! I didn't know Lorton was in Gypsy. But I just played another Gypsy youtube clip, and heard a drum solo and said to myself "man, I heard Bill Lordan play that solo when he was with Robin Trower...twice" and went on to think that perhaps Lordan ripped off that solo from some guy in Gypsy. So, am I right...was Lordan in Gypsy? That solo was unmistakable. Or, your brother's band. Obviously I smoked wayyyy to much weed back in the day, as I'm totally confused!
@naderchaser , YES SIR. Bill Lordan was in Gypsy band before Robin Trowers band. The Gypsy in the garden is from 1970. Bill was not the drummer on the recording before In the garden. Bill was also in Sly and the family Stone. But not sure when. I met him and forgot to ask him. I'm thinking perhaps in Sly's band maybe between Gypsy and Trower. Gypsy is from my home town. Yea in the garden is the best. That entire recording is great. Glad i got it in CD when i did. Do you have it?
@johnbambammorgan Yes, I DO have the CD. It was re-released a few years back, and I sent away for one. But back in around '70 or '71 I had the vinyl album. Oh dude, I had so many cool, eclectic albums. Then made the rookie mistake of giving ALL of them to a girl I was in lust with, and I mean LUST with, prior to going off to college. What an idiot. I called her after I got home from semester break..the albums were long gone, and so was she. S'cuse me while I bend over...so you can all KICK ME.
@naderchaser , i could be wrong in that Lordan might also be on the first Gypsy, but i no longer own that CD so i cant' look. But listening to this song here now sounds like it could be him. let me know.
Having the great fortune to see Gypsy in the 70's in St. Louis Mo. was a great time in my life to be young and free in spirit. Such a fine vid and tribute.
Saw Gypsy in Milwaukee a very long time ago...standing room only. We were even standing in the street outside. It was great and this song is the best. Wonderful. Thanks for posting
I can't believe Iv'e found this-I absolutely adore this band! Does anyone out there have their albums? I lost their songs from my computer and I would dearly love to hear them again! Lisa
That was a treat! I saw Gypsy on August 14th, 1971 when they opened for the Guess Who in Mobile, Alabama. I taped the Guess Who and could have kicked myself for not getting Gypsy. Great band and only 4 albums!
Yep, they have the disc on line available once in a while. I purchased one but they can be expensive and the recording is so so at best but it works.
