I LOVE that turntable...good aftermarket tonearm, built like a tank and probably sounds tremendous (and weighs it too). Is that the one you use with your integrated tube amp?
@vantageIIx As far as I know, the tone arm is original. Right now this table is awaiting restoration.
The table that I use with the tube amp is a Technics SL-1600MK2 with an Audio Technica AT440MLa cartridge. Preamp is a Bellari VP129 with an Amperex "Bugle Boy" 12AX7 tube.
@Maxxarcade My best luck to you! i would love to have an older turntable that really came from that day in age. im not even old enough to have owned it new. i just really appreciate that antique type machine.
@Honker103 Ya, they don't make things like they used to! I miss the days when everything was made with metal, and had lots of character. Look at old cars for example.
You say your Discman runs on AA batteries ? I have one that looks absolutely identical to yours, but mine uses one of those stupid rechargeable batteries that, of course, doesn't work anymore. Mine's model D-4 made in 1988. It's certainly heavy and well-built.
@5irR4p70r The rechargeable pack was an option. Mine had those too. To use regular batteries, you need the carrier that slides in the battery compartment.
The Harmon Kardon seems to be performing well. I had forgot about those two companies pairing up to make that turntable . That Rabco appears to have been custom made for Harmond Kardon I see now it is completely different than the Rabco I have which is a tonearm to itself and operates on a D cell battery. When you finish bringing it up to like new condition, and decide not to keep it, it should bring a good price on ebay.
lol at the diskman. the early non-sony one's were sooo ridiculous..
my very first one took 10 (ten!) AA batteries.. lasted about 3 to 4hours with a fresh set of Varta's or Duracell's. considerably less with off-brands. and it would only run like 30mins (at best) on rechargeable batteries. :D
dunno what make or model it was.. but i think it was a "Crown"..
the one in the youtube video here looks very similar.. but not 100%..
@Knaeckebrotsaege I think anything that takes 10 batteries, and has a motor, should be lasting maybe 10 Hours!!! LOL.....Vintage was good, but only some things:)
honestly you really should replace the arm and table belts, fix the damper and hook it to your tube amp and phono stage, you'll be amazed. Beautiful table, it's sure to reach way more than i could ever afford on ebay, but once you hook it to your tube amp you may end up selling your current table instead!

is the deck on this table solid aluminum or some kind of aluminum veneer?
lineartechbd1600 1 year ago
@lineartechbd1600 I think it has aluminum top, sides, cover, but a plastic or steel bottom plate. It's not machined out of a solid block or anything.
Did your user name come from LinearTech amplifiers by chance?

She doesn't only look great she sounds great too. Definitely something worth keeping, I don't think there's that many of these still alive today.
Good job getting it up and running again.

Cool TT! Quartz controlled I presume?
I see you also got the amplifier I spotted in your other video! Is it made by Sony?
aldiakaroofus 1 year ago
@aldiakaroofus superscope was sony.
btown2011 1 year ago
@btown2011 I thought Superscope was a distributor of Sony products for the North American market, not actually owned by Sony. Thanks for the info!

verything sounds good.even though it's 10watt per channel it's got enough power.it doesn't seem to distort when you turn it up.
the turntable looks very solid, massive, heavy.you should restoreit, and maybe you can restore the amp as well.don't forget to post some videos

Great! I was hoping that you would show that one in action. That is one sweet turntable.

I just realized you were playing a remix of "Show Me Love" by Robyn -- I haven't heard that song in years!
vwestlife 1 year ago
@vwestlife Ya, I didn't remember the original song until I got about half way through it. Brings back memories though.

@Maxxarcade wow your right - i didn't realise it was show me love. it sounds so different from the orignal recording - i like it.
Great turntable too and great sound!
