  • kinda like how live ava adore sounds nearly nothing like studio ava adore. they played owata in philly the other night, it was amazing

  • this is so cool. i do enjoy the studio version, but i feel this is superior. still, you've gotta be prepared for things like this when you love billy!

  • i like having both the awesome rock live version and synthesesised album version, their both good

  • One of the best things about this appearing on TBK is that hopefully it means tracks like As Rome Burns and 99 Floors may also make an appearance!

  • Mikey.....Dude you fuckin rock!! Living the dream one beat at a time. :D)

  • compare it to the studio, almost all of Adore or their electronic stuff is converted when played live. Its sort of like Billy creates an Alpha and Omega of every song, so essentially this makes sense as to what hes doing with the album and its material. I'm still not a big fan of this song in any version, but I've grown to like all versions a little more with additional listens.

  • Actually I've come to realize that this is kind of standard for Pumpkins, their live material has always seemed to have a much more rock oriented edge to it, tending to forget about the more interesting elements in songs. With several songs hear they've created studio versions based on all the elements of music using synths and keyboards, while live they perform with the simple 4 piece set and don't go overboard. It isn't just for Teargarden though, look at Ava Adore from this performance and

  • @Tabbyluigi Exactly like how they recorded Pug with a Lead Guitar, a Keyboard, and Drums, yet the live version if Pug is Lead Guitar, Rhythm Guitar, Base Guitar, and Heavy Drums.

  • After hearing this one and revisting the studio one, I honestly don't think that the reason for me disliking it is that of teh studio versions changes, its just I never liked it that much to begin with. Admitttedly its not as badly butchered as many people seem to think it is, if anything the original A Song For A Son was butchered, that live version from the 20th anniversary tour rules over the studio, but the studio is a different kind of awesome, just not exactly what I wanted.

  • why couldn't the album version be more like this. this was the best point in the evolution of this song over the years. it has now been forever solidified into synthesized garbage.

  • @masonmcg You're entitled to your opinion. But it wont be forever solidified. Billy said there will be all kinds of changes in the songs with the final boxset. And you should realize by now that this is the sound of TBK. I'm not surprised that it has synth. Most of the recent songs do. Also, you'll always have this video to watch. So if you hate the album version, just listen to this :D It is a lot better.

  • @Brown86Town i shouldn't call it garbage, because it isn't terrible. songs like freak and song for a son still have their guitar edge in the studio versions on TBK, so there isn't really an expectation for all songs to go the stitch in time-synth route. oh well, you can't please evryone. it just makes me appreciate your video even more. thanks for hosting it :) i'm gonna go download my free owata track now, and maybe after 20 listens, i'll actually learn to love it.....LOL

  • @masonmcg You're very welcome. It's actually starting to grow on me :D I don't think I'll ever like it as much as the live versions, though. Especially the Chris Issac one.

  • @masonmcg I agree, I am severely disappointed. I've loved everything Billy Corgan has done up until Teargarden. Although most Teargarden songs have had potential, he's been destroying all of that with the synthesizers he overloads onto every single track he releases. I'm only afraid of what he's going to do with the rest of the unreleased songs....

  • @urface102 i think what makes it worse, for me at least, is hearing good songs like freak and hearing this live version of owata, really got me excited for the studio version of this particular song. it just really missed for me.

  • @masonmcg Yea I know what you mean. There are some really awesome bootlegs of some Teargarden songs when he played them with Spirits in the Sky, I suggest you look for those..

  • @masonmcg Agreed. I wish they'd recorded it just like this. It's perfect.

  • @masonmcg Not really it still has the pumpkins feel and its awesome.I take it you didnt like ADORE thtas your prob

  • DISSAPOINT

  • owata means finished, im done in japanese. is that what thet are singing about? 終わり

  • owata means finished, im done in japanese. is that what thet are singing about?

  • I have to say this and I don't even know if I like saying it but this kid takes this song places Jimmy Chamberlin didn't even dream of taking it.

  • WOW this version is awesome!

  • owata beatiful song

  • @Brown86Town I hope it is, if not that's a shame. It's such a great song, maybe at some point a studio version will be released.

  • will this be a teargarden song? or just something he did with the spirits?

  • @JThebarge16 There is no official confirmation yet, but I'm pretty sure this and As Rome Burns will be on TBK. Although, Billy said anything before the 20th Anniversary Tour (i.e. 99 Floors, Promise Me, Peace and Love, Gossamer) is in the rear view and will not be put on TBK. And to my knowledge, Owata and As Rome Burns is part of the 20th Anniversary era.

  • @Brown86Town

I think "If All Goes Wrong" is pretty much the official document of those residency songs anyway. Although Gossamer is still in the live sets, so unless that's strictly a live-only song, maybe it will surface on Teargarden at some point.

As long as the Backwards Clock Society stuff makes the album, I'll be happy.

  • @PantheonLincoln It won't. Someone asked Billy on Ustream, "Will Gossamer be on TBK?" and he said, "It won't. Anything from the Residency songs or anything before that is in the rearview. I'm looking toward the future." He did say that they recorded a demo of it while recording Zeitgeist, but it never got farther than the demo stage and it never will unfortunately. But if the Archives are ever complete then we will most likely hear that demo. Not for years to come though I'm afraid.

  • @JThebarge16 Song for a Son was performed on the anniversary tour and made TBK, so this should also. I would guess this "electric" version will end up the one recorded.

  • @JThebarge16

It's the next Teargarden song! Possibly due next week.

  • @PantheonLincoln I can't wait! I think it'll be a great addition to TBK.

  • @PantheonLincoln dreams do come true

  • @JThebarge16

9 months and a vlog later... THE ANSWER IS YES!

  • loving this bass line

  • the song has really come into it's own... can't wait for a studio recording, it's going to be sick.

  • I agree. Second time seeing this them play this live. Just gets better & better!.

  • this song will be a classic...
