omfg!!!!!!!!! why am i only hearing this now ????
FUCKING AWESOME!!! Testament have a place in my favorite artists, and to think the only reason I found them a because I named my old band three days of darkness..lol coincidence? I think not!
They were probably the most influential band in thrash, especially in the Mustaine era, back then they inspired Slayer to make thrash, and they inspired Anthrax as well, Anthrax saw them rehearse and they were really impressed. Go figure now, how important Metallica has been for thrash.
Actually I'm not. There are times when Kerry King refers to this event, the guys from Slayer, at least King and Hanneman I guess, were at a Metallica show and they were impressed, King especially by Dave's 'lead ripping'.
It was in a Japanese live guitar show with Marty Friedman, and really, if King said it himself it must be true.
EXODUS FORMED IN 1980 (KIRK HAMMETT OF METALLICA), SLAYER FORMED IN 1981, METALLICA FORMED IN 1981 (WITH DAVE MUSTAIN), AND THIS BAND TESTAMENT FORMED ---LATER--- IN 1983.
Dave Ellefson...the Bassist for Megadeth discusses the early days with Slayer in an interview and mentions how he was present when Kerry King created his first nail armband. They all knew each other. DAVE said (years ago) Slayer is the greatest live band EVER! Testament was barely around...
Formation dates don't say much at all. If you compare Exodus' '82 demo with McGovney's '82 demo, you'll see that Exodus' demo with pretty straightforward NWOHBHM while Metallica's demo actually had the blueprint of thrash in it.
And yeah of course Ellefson was familiar with King, Megadeth was formed in LA, because Mustaine went to LA after he was kicked out. King saw Metallica with Mustaine as he said, so that was before Mustaine got fired, so that makes what I said still true.
As for that Testament was barely around then, well that was kind of obvious, Testament was more of the 2nd generation of thrash, influenced by Metallica and such.
Erotic symbolism. Hah! What a joke.
