do you know what's awesome about the need for speed series? They sticked to the cut scenes where they have people talking to YOU as the driver. And they have CG people but they look realistic

Well those live action cutscenes are what made the 90s great. Take Need For Speed 3 Hot Pursuit for the ps1 for example. The intro vid on that game is so awesome that makes me wonder, how come car games from today dont use these types of cutscenes anymore?

I love how you can kinda see this game's roots in the old Test Drive games... I'm guessing this marked the split between the two. Anyone else notice how stuff in the far distance is really just a huge sprite and then the polys pop up? That probably explains why the system is churning away on the disc the whole time... pretty neat how the 3DO could stream from the CD during gameplay (other systems had to load everything into RAM before you could play).

This is where it all started - the games just wernt the same after Porsche 2000 and High Stakes. It all went with the rice burner crap (Underground and so on).

What happened to the days of car show casing, slideshows, FMV (Full Motion Videos), the techno music that was dynamically mixed with each track (NFS 3:Hot Pursuit), the gorgeous fictitious tracks and the exotic super cars.

Damn I miss the old days :-(

I had a 3do on release, it was way beyond other consoles and my all time favourite. You need to review Virtuoso next to taste the other end of the 3DO gaming spectrum. Great review, oh and the guy is called "Daredevil" in the game and yes he is awesome!

I own the Saturn version which has a beeter frame rate with slightly better graphics. I loved the first NFS, long before the Japanese tuner cars came into the picture. Exotics are way better.
