Oh, and Iverson has only averaged 12 shoots per game since being in Detroit, so I wouldn't say he is "shooting plenty". He doesn't need to shoot 25 times a night, but allow him to do what he was brought there to do which is help take over games when the team is struggling offensively. I highly doubt Dumars brought him there to be a spectator on offense. Him shooting 40% (when he shot 46% last season) is a sign that he is not comfortible, doesn't know his role and is struggling..duh.
And by the way, McDyess just basically said the same things I am saying in a recent interview about Iverson. So I guess McDyess and Coach Murry are wrong too? Iverson is not your typical player that you can just throw in a line up and expect him to just fit in, you have to play off his strengths and allow him to create open looks for everyone else..otherwise, dont make a trade for him..its really that simple.
For Curry to supposidly be a 'defensive specialist' it sure isn't showing as much in all his players so far this season, he even admitted that in a recent interview and said people need to stop blaming their defense on AI. And yes, they are handcuffing Iversons game, its more then apperent in some of the games people are watching, he is not playing as freely as he should and at times seems to be frozen out of the offense. Why make a trade for him if you're not going to utilize him?
Why bring in AI if you plan on restricting severely his game? It would have been more sensible to keep Billups then. I think the front-office just did it for monetary reasons; they expect the fans to suffer a year of losing just so they can bring in LBJ come 2010. AI was a better fit with the Denver Nuggets than he is with the Pistons. Until Curry allows him to be the star player (all great teams in the league, with the exception of the Jazz have one), they will be a .600 team.
As far as Stucky goes, he has been as inconsistant as anyone else on that team so far this season. He had a good game lastnight...does not mean he is ready to start. If Dumars or Curry thought Stucky was ready to start, he would be starting. I think him and Iverson work better together then AI and RIP though, or even AI and Afflalo look better together then him and RIP. All Curry needs to do is figure out a steady ground between the players, thats all.
In case U haven't noticed, Curry has been running a different system this season from previous seasons. He wants a more offensive orientated system, mixed with a decent defensive system. Obviously Dumars thought it was time for a change because as great as the Pistons defense was a few seasons ago, it has NOT been the same the last few seasons. Defense was still their calling card but it has not been as dominate as it once was, and that was before Iverson even got there.
The defense went down because Flip was a soft coach - brilliant offensively, but no defensive intensity. Coach Curry, a defensive specialist as a player, is supposed to bring it back. Admit it, AI is a defensive liability. And Detroit hasn't handcuffed Iverson's game. He's shooting plenty to be shooting 40% on his fgs.
are you nuts? ai plays great defense as much as those other guys, he has a history of being a defensive player and oh, btw last time i checked their stats, he's the leader in steals (1.70) then followed by stuckey (1.35).
AI gets steals from gambling in the lane. He's very good at it. But he's a terrible man to man defender. Guards blow by him at will and that's death to a man to man squad.
Let Iverson play his game, let him play freely and he will help that team... allow him to stand around and become an observer like he did in this game (up untill the 4th quarter) and further handcuff his game..and it is going to be a problem. Its really that simple. Iverson doesn't have to score 30 ppg like he used to, but he does need to run with the flow of the offense and allow him to takeover when need be. All Detroit needs to do is figure out everyothers game, and they'll be fine.
Iverson is not coming off the bench, so some of you fans might as well give that up. You dont bring a player like Iverson to your team just for him to come off the bench. Stucky looked good in this game, but he is not ready to start yet and Iverson has still not adapted to this team. And Iverson used Parker just as much as Parker supposidly 'used" Ai. They both are not great defenders and Iverson has always been one of the best when it has come to breaking down the Spurs defense.
So what Parker got used, too? It's not about a war of attrition. This team was built to be run by an ultimate pg mentality. Championship and finals Piston teams crave and achieve defensive domination foremost - top to bottom. With that quickness, AI racks up steals gambling in the lane. But that doesn't compensate for letting your man consistently run by you. And it's funny you don't think Stuckey is ready to start. I bet you think it's great he's been FINISHING the games.
Iverson is a great player, but Stuckey knows how to run this team. He finds guys, drives and shoots well plus he stays in front of his man. AI just needs to give us 20 off the bench for us to get the 'ship. Parker used him last night in the first quarter, just like most pg's in the league.
yeah excellent call, if he stays efficient we will be championship material both on offense and defense. and its good that he does not have to bring it every night cause he's on such a good team, at least until playoff time
yeah he's drawing in double teams like crazy, opening up shots for his teammates, his defense has also improved loads. He's usually out of PG position which has improved his shot.
wow ginobili is such a flopper

Iverson isn't the same player he was on Philly. If he plays like that every night pistons have a shot at a title!

i agree? he needs to be looking for his shot a bit more and get out of this scoring funk he's in

I think he has been i mean he shot close to 50% last night. Being on a team like the Pistons he doesnt have to score 30+ points like he used to.
