  • Lol That's a rather proud looking bunch - and so they should be! That photo is 48 years old. I wonder if any of those guys standing there in that photo could ever have imagined that 'their baby' would still be flying half a century later. VC10= Engineering excellence - with beauty thrown in to boot.

  • i wanna buy a vc-10, they look mean, shame they dont make aircraft elegant looking like they used to, well airbus have got nice jets, but the vc-10 had a look to it.

  • A relative of mine was killed in the 1-11 crash on salisbury plane! Dont know who it was though.

Good picture of wisley at the beginning!

If only Boac had bought more 10's, that why i hope to see BA go down one day, they deserve it

  • I remember the crash, C1963. All BAC staff in the plane doing stall trials. I was in the apprentice school at the time. Thanks

  • At weybridge?

  • Yes 2 years in the apprentice school, 3 years in R&D workshops and 4 years in the wind tunnel workshops. My Dad worked there 1939 to 1971.

  • My dads side of family also worked there. Shame to see it all knocked down and now a german car company owning most of it!

  • Hello.. My dad (Henry Sharp) was overseas sales manager at Vickers and was after with british aircraft corporation for several years. I saw the mock up of the vc 10 and also the first test flight as well as other aircraft like the 1eleven, trident etc. I was brought up in Weybridge, was at wallop school and spent lots of time at the st george's hill tennis clup. Your dad must have known mine. He's not in the picture though! regards, Alan Sharp (age 52!!)
