  • Excellent! It's only Shankar Mahadevan who can give justice to this song sung by the great Pandit Bhimsen Joshi.

  • Guys, Please do not waste your valuable time commenting on the talents of Panditji and Mahadevan. Mahadevan also sang this just beautifully, and again yesterday at the Savaigandarva - Bhimsen festival in Pune. Mahadevan also has God's gift! Rarely one 'likes' a popular song sung by another singer years later since the first singer's voice is ingrained in our hearts.

  • Thanks for capturing and uploading. :)

  • Thanks a lot buddy for capturing this .....

  • I explained the meaning of abhang (tho Marathi is NOT my first language either),it reinforces my faiih in our common roots "Hinduism" and our common heritage! my friend to in is laer life beieves in buddhist phylosophy and not a strict follower of hindu rituals he could not tear himself away from neither classical music nor the abahng which he did not understand nor the powerful voice of the singer , panditji!

it is this unseen chains we are bound by in India " hinduism" !

  • I have heard so many versions of this abhang,by Kishori Tai, Shankar Mahadevan and of course Bhimsen Joshiji, but every version is unique! None can really beat the seminal version of Bhimsenji, because he gave the abhang a unique identity and stamped his authority!

It is Tukaramji's sentiment in he Abhang which apeals to people! ilent it to a friend who is a lot younger sindhi From Delhi-Jaipur and he was mesmerised and waned to know he meaing of all the words and listens to it regularly

  • Shankar mahadevan is not even 1% close to what Pt. Bhimsen Joshi has sung...

  • @mandarvv: No point in comparing, you are used to Panditji and so will never 'like' anything else. Mahadevan also sang this just beautifully, and yesterday at the Savaigandarva - Bhimsen festival in Pune. Mahadevan also has God's gift! Rarely one 'likes' a popular song sung by another singer years later since the first singer's voice is ingrained in our hearts.

    KkRdGulzar.

  • Thanks for the information. It appears to be a mixed ' rag Bhoopali' as foreign notes appear at some places.

  • fantastic

  • can any one have good copy of this song ???? if then please upload it .......

  • THE RAAG IS HANS DHWANI BASE.....

  • What is the raga of this song. Please post

  • @cpslrlcsh I wish I knew....Frankly, I have no idea whatsoever...Could sm1 else here help?

  • @muglikar

The raag is Bhoop or Bhopali. The classic movie song "Jyoti Kalsh Chalke" is also based on this raag.

  • @cpslrlcsh , this is based on rag Hamsadhwani

  • @cpslrlcsh

The raag is Bhoop or Bhopali. It is a very pleasant raag. The classic movie song "Jyoti Kalash Chalke" is also based on this raag. Hope this answers your question.

  • @cpslrlcsh its Bhajani

  • The song of Bhimsenji is a classic...no one can come anywhere near it...

  • excelent muglikar ji..thyach khyati kaaya saangoo

  • This Shankers recitation of Sant Tukarams Bhajan is so great, feels like listen to it again and again. Though I do not understand Marathi fully, I have enjoyed this to the fullest. The dedication to this is great.

  • Well thanks for sharing this with us specially this song is more than a song bez it comes from a very much sweet memory for around 20 Years listing this song every Thursday by a old Varkari morning Exact at 9 AM in the his sweetest voice which I cannot explain.

  • sounds more modern than bhimsen joshi's version but nevertheless superb!

  • bhimsen is bhimsen. but shankar mahadevan has not learnt under pt. bhimsen joshiji, so we think like this. all vocalists are good. see i am a hindustani vocalist. and you can hear my song baaje muralia on you tube. each and every artist have their own singing style. some like it and some dislike. but here it is ok. dont quarrel each other and dont make any wrong and mis comments on any one.

  • @anupamaa1 : Absolutely. I am with you on this one Anupamaa. Let us all enjoy the wonder of music.

  • awesome man...

  • Listen all, I have written this is plenty of posts and here it is one more time. We all get used to the original song and that is why we feel all others are not good. For those who have studied music (I have not, but I know this) the same song can be sung in many different ways. Classic example is 'Rim zhim gire sawan' - sung by KK and Lata ( or is it Asha) are sung at different tempos and scales and are both just incredibile. So just sit back, relax and enjoy!

    KkRdGulzar..

  • This is awesome stuff.

Hats off to u Mr. Shankar Mahadevan. Big fan of yours.

Ur appreciations have made my day! :)

  • Thanks for posting this!

  • Shankar mahadevan you are good But Bhimsen is Bhimsen no comparison

  • @All, Thanks for ur generous n kind comments frnds!

@shukdu, @ younick47: Thats why 'Pandit' Bheemsen Joshi! Tyanche abhang aikun tar Vitthal pan mantramugdh hot asel!!!

@mukundmaths: Shankar has given his best too!

  • Pt Bhimsen Joshi is legendary very senior singer of India. Shankar mahadevan considers pandit ji as his Guru.

  • @muglikar Can not believe, Shankar Mahadevan is singing in flawless Marathi accent...Amazing melody by non Marathi, its only Bhakti which is flowing...

  • Couldn't agree with you more. While I find Shankar Mahadevan's performance really good, it would be an insult to Pt.Bhimsen Joshi to compare this performance to Panditji's rendition. I donot mean to pull down Shankar, but rather that Panditji takes one's self to Vitthala himself and we lose ourselves in the image of Vitthala invoked by his singing.

  • @shukdu Yes. He's done a good job. But, there's a certain depth and profundity in Panditji's rendition that is hard to get.

  • Superbly sung.. pronounciation is so clear and the sur touching perfectly and sung with a very high pitch ,, its sounding very melodious with flute

  • with all respect to shankar mahadevan ..hey gana aiklyavar kalta bhimsen joshi kuthlya kuthe ahet :-)

  • mi shankar mahadevan la himesh reshmiya shi compare karat nahi ahe....bhimsen joshin barobar karat ahe ..ani te apaman karak watat asel tumhala tar mala kahi bolayche nahi ahe pudhe...ani mi je lihilay tyat shankar la nav ajibat thevle nahi vacha nit !
