@crazydudetb It's because it sounds much better live; people hear it on the album and think "okay, this is decent." But you gotta hear it like this to appreciate it!
muse is fucking amazing. they sound great live too. not too many bands can do that. everyones voice is doctored somehow today. matt is the most talented man in music.
They are so fucking good!!! I love the studio version but the one thing that really took me a while to like was the jazz horn sounding thing at the end of every chorus. But live, matt plays those parts with the guitar and it sounds awesome.
"dark shines bringing me down" option and "dark shine's bringing me down" option, how do you - the english, recognize what option do you hear? I have no idea; besides what are those "dark shines", I ask, becaue by Muse's songs, even TFD is useless
@MythOfEchelon [I don't want to be bothersome, but have a question] Could you tell me PLEASE, if you know, what are those "dark shines"? how can shines be dark? [I guess it is not any kind o freshwater fish, I know there is such a speceis, or genus, or black spot on eyes]; I found this: "shines" - (Informal) Pranks or tricks, is it "a good path"?
@MythOfEchelon I think thats the beauty of it, at least thats what makes it surreally and eerie beautiful to me... we all know that the shine cant be dark, but when Matt sings it with such power and gives it a lethargy, love-sick feeling to it, he makes me believe that he has seen one :)
I think this version seems a bit rushed and a little off (barely noticable but to one who has heard this song everyday on repeat for 2 weeks) DON'T GET ME WRONG, it's still amazing in everyway possible. Just rushed =/
@killingtimeagainxX you are correct! It's one of my fav songs, and I've been listening to it a ton, and you're right. Listen to the version from Hullaballo... Big difference. Still amazing none the less!
If this solo is not "innovative" then no guitar solo nowadays is !
This is one of the best and most fascinating guitar solos I ve heard the past decade and is definitively a true testament to Matthew James Bellamy epic musical skills.
omfg. im a huge fan since 2001, stumbled upon this gem and all i can say is that i am ashamged i did not fine it before tonight. .. never too late. this is perfection. imagine this live? fuck sake,.
They've been my favorite band since I was 7, I can't wait till the december 12th concert at Vegas when I get to see them :DD and i'm going to meet them :DDDDD backstage passsses! I thank god for them!
It's the perfect mix of jazz and rock, it has amazing explosive drums , ultra catchy jazzy bass line, phenomenal and innovative guitar solo....And last but not least beautiful lyrics sung by an ultra pasionnate and sensual voice
I wish they would resurrect this song for live performances. I know Matt doesn't like playing a few old songs because of high vocal strain but this song is wicked awesome.
love love love darkshines, but i miss the piano for this song. also, there was really nothing special about this performance, but i still liked it. matt's such an amazing guitarist.
Oh Wow Didn't Know Matt Had Asthma, I Did Too When I Was A Baby, Almost Died From It, Then I Wouldn't Have Been Able To Listen To Muse And My Life Would Have Been Worthless And Wasted!
Actually I don't think Dark Shines comes across nearly as well as on the studio version. I much prefer the Roland trumpet synth to the Digitech Whammy, and the buttery, heart-melting reverb on the album version of 3:11 in this video is really what made the song for me. I don't feel like the song gained a whole lot live.
People say Matt needs to work on his breath control, and sometimes it's true. But personally, I don't give a damn whether I can hear those gasps or not. I actally like them. Like, you freaking NEED to breath in order to blast out those ridiculously amazing vocals that he possesses.
I heard it's cuz he has athsma. But regardless, i think it adds some crazy emotion to most parts of the music. After listening to their albums after a while it becomes natural and you don't really notice it, but you end up with more emotion than anything when you do notice it.
WOW! Matt and his EXCELLENT perfomence are AMAZING, so wise, so genius!!! This guy is clever with his music. Dominic in drums is terrific!! MUSE ROCKS!!! What an AMAZING song, too. =O =D
this is the ONLY band i've ever known to have a song that sounds better live than on their album LONG LIVE THE BEST ROCK BAND EVER. MUSE! Fuck religion, i'm a Bellamian
This is the Muse I love Best, This Style, of course they're still awesome but this Style I love Most... That note at 1:16, the way he Plays it WOAH, AWESOME :D
If Matt ever plays this live on piano, oh god that would just be Bliss. Well no, actually it would be Darkshines haha. Ok lame joke aside, that would be totally sweet. I'd kill to hear him do that piano mashing part.
dude, please check out muse their own music books (wich are published on their web page) and find out they DO use the Tubescreamer and FYI No delay at all in this song... lol
lol you turst their music books? ever listened to the CD that comeswith them? Lmfao. Studio version and here, line 6 echo delay - bitch - is used. There is no tube screamer in the studio version, they may be here, but i can almost garuntee it being heavy OD with the fuzz factory.
Who knows. But most likely the band won't play songs like this ever again, unfortunately. I remember in Absolution days in some interview, why he doesn't play Showbiz songs (besides the muscle museum, sunburn, random showbiz), because his voice has changed. He can still hit high notes, but his voice changed.
Origin of Symmetry songs too. This, Hyper Music, Dead Star (A-side), etc. has too much of a different voice now. He does play Hyper Music & Dead Star riffs live now though. Awesome.
i heard that they hated playing that song live, well in general too lol. which is kind of wierd because i think this song is way way better sounding live and such an amazing song. i love when he goes "beeeeeeee minnnnneeeeeeeeeEEeeEeEEee" i love his voice
Age = Experience, man. He can't be the best because there are admittedly much more seasoned guitarists with more experience and skill under their belt. Skill doesn't just happen, it improves over time.
So i can't lie. I love Bellamy. However, an establish guitarist (Jimmy Page, Steve Vai, John Petrucci) has something that Bellamy will never be able to do. They moved the music industry. And It's hardly musical genius, he breaks apart chords. Jimmy Page played his guitar with a violin bow. Which one is more genius?
All in all, Muse is amazing, though, hardly the best band in the history of music.
I totally agree. But honestly, how many people can be considered part of the special few that have changed the industry? As far as guitar skills, Bellamy is fantastic, but not the best. However, that's not where his genius lies. His skills as a pianist are amazing. He is obviously influenced by Thom Yorke, in his style of composition. But the way he manipulates opera, classical music, rock and electronica is something he excels at.
Oh, and another thing: Muse is one of the only bands that moves my soul. I can listen to their records over and over. I think that's more important to me than musical virtuosity:)
thank you, fantastic point. Exactly what people need to recognize, that the fact that musical virtuosity only goes so far. Amazing songwriting and emotion is limitless!
I agree, sir, it could easily be seen as the best album. How could people praise the other three albums but not Blackholes? Theres no logic involved. It is a genre defying piece of sublime songwriting skills and ideas. And it's the album they took to Wembley stadium in June, i bet you didn't complain about the album then.
God youtube comments annoy me! (yes, i am aware of that statement being hippocritical because i am currently posting a commnent on youtube, but) One of the Main reasons that people think that Black Holes and Revelations isn't regarded as really equal to the others is because its the album that made fucking
nobheads like most of the people that have posted on this like them, which=, in my opinion, kind of ruined a unique band. 9/10 people that have posted here probably never liked muse before Black Holes and revelations.
On top of that, the music in Black Holes and revelations is just plain not as good (Yes i do know that doesnt really make sence)On top of that, Not related to the post i am replying to, Matt Belamy isnt really a very good guitarist,
Don't be ridiculous. They don't hate it. It doesn't get played as often because it's a mere album track (wasn't released as a single) and they have since released two albums after it.. meaning lots of other songs naturally get prioritised first. As great as it'd be, it's not possible to play every song they've ever made.
To answer you and the other Darkshines Smarks here "why aren't they playing this masterpiece anymore ?"
Well there basically two reasons to it
1/ It wasn't one of OOS single and it's dated of 2001, two albums happened since it = zero chance about it to reappear
2/ It is related to the first fact, back on the OOS Era they were barely playing it each night and the last time ever they did was Dec 2 2001 in Osaka Japan (with an EXTRAORDINARY Guitar solo on it)
Well, Micro Cuts wasn't a solo and they stopped playing it, and they just recently started playing it again :)
I think they don't play this because the studio version is just so wonderful with the piano, and Matt simply can't play guitar and piano at the same time. The piano chords at the beginning of the chorus were my favorite part of the song and the live version is lacking without it..
As much as I fucking love the chaotic piano chords before the chorus, I still think this live version kicks ass. All things considered, they could easily bring back the piano/synth line now that they have Morgan.
I'm hoping that they'll bring this back in due time, and when they do I'm sure it'll bring a tear to my eye. I mean, hell, they played Unintended that one time in Wembley for the first time in 5-odd years.
5 people needa die.

I agree, sir, it could easily be seen as the best album. How could people praise the other three albums but not Blackholes? Theres no logic involved. It is a genre defying piece of sublime songwriting skills and ideas. And it's the album they took to Wembley stadium in June, i bet you didn't complain about the album then.

hell they are all good..
Different but AMAZING in their own way

God youtube comments annoy me! (yes, i am aware of that statement being hippocritical because i am currently posting a commnent on youtube, but) One of the Main reasons that people think that Black Holes and Revelations isn't regarded as really equal to the others is because its the album that made fucking
gibby12100 4 years ago
nobheads like most of the people that have posted on this like them, which=, in my opinion, kind of ruined a unique band. 9/10 people that have posted here probably never liked muse before Black Holes and revelations.
On top of that, the music in Black Holes and revelations is just plain not as good (Yes i do know that doesnt really make sence)On top of that, Not related to the post i am replying to, Matt Belamy isnt really a very good guitarist,
gibby12100 4 years ago
Read from the first of my Posts, 3 Down
Muse are amazing composers, and Matt is an imense singer, but his guitar riffs are generally just simple with help of lots of effects.
gibby12100 4 years ago
i disagree. i saw muse live last summer, and his guitar solo was fucking killerrr.

I agree with spacecowboyy, and you have to give it to muse they are good musicians.

Hellbeansf,
its matts song to mess with, so who are you to judge. Muse is still amazing despite matt messing around/having fun with HIS songs.

this song is great ... i've listen to muse for like 6 months now... and just listened to this song today and its so good
Milkman4ever 4 years ago
this is def. one of my top 3 favorite muse songs. its incredibly underrated.
ive seem them twice, but i still havent seen them play this song!!
langlim 4 years ago
The band simply HATES this song (like hyper music or exo politics), enough to NOT playing it ANYMORE
BTW I've seen this band 8 times between 2001 and 2006 and the first two times, I GOT DARKSHINES and MAN did I melt on it.....
Pure sensuality at heart, like someone caressing gently your skin forever.....before making you melting for good

I cant see how they could hate those songs, why would they put them on an album if they didnt like them?
accez24 4 years ago
Don't be ridiculous. They don't hate it. It doesn't get played as often because it's a mere album track (wasn't released as a single) and they have since released two albums after it.. meaning lots of other songs naturally get prioritised first. As great as it'd be, it's not possible to play every song they've ever made.
daspare1 4 years ago
Great song! Why don't they play it often on concerts?
MkNate 4 years ago
To answer you and the other Darkshines Smarks here "why aren't they playing this masterpiece anymore ?"
Well there basically two reasons to it
1/ It wasn't one of OOS single and it's dated of 2001, two albums happened since it = zero chance about it to reappear
2/ It is related to the first fact, back on the OOS Era they were barely playing it each night and the last time ever they did was Dec 2 2001 in Osaka Japan (with an EXTRAORDINARY Guitar solo on it)
So my thoughts are :
KyleHyde770 4 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
Quite simple, this guy always botches his solos, and tries to make up for it with silly fills.
Less cocaine, more music please.
Hellbeansf 4 years ago
Well, Micro Cuts wasn't a solo and they stopped playing it, and they just recently started playing it again :)
I think they don't play this because the studio version is just so wonderful with the piano, and Matt simply can't play guitar and piano at the same time. The piano chords at the beginning of the chorus were my favorite part of the song and the live version is lacking without it..
ShvinktaProductions 4 years ago 2
As much as I fucking love the chaotic piano chords before the chorus, I still think this live version kicks ass. All things considered, they could easily bring back the piano/synth line now that they have Morgan.
I'm hoping that they'll bring this back in due time, and when they do I'm sure it'll bring a tear to my eye. I mean, hell, they played Unintended that one time in Wembley for the first time in 5-odd years.
