you don't need to use lemon juice, the dye will release if you use warm water. it worked for me anyway. and you should also cover your hair with a shower cap so that the henna doesn't dry out, because once it does, it stops colouring those dry areas.
I don't use lemon juice and I went from ash blonde to a nice medium brown. Works fine, been doing it for a while. Also, I don't let it sit for 12 hours before I use it, only 2 hours. Works great. Oh, and my mom is still an organic cosmetologist licensed in 1976.
is your hair colour dark brown before you coloured it? because i wanna dye it with henna too but im afraid the colour wont come out because my hair is too dark
@hannarockit my hair was medium brown. Even with black hair henna will leave a nice red tint (especially in the sun!). Make sure you're using good quality loose henna though.
@martijnspeed hey if you want true purple I'd suggest going with a brand like Fudge. But if you're looking for auburn, henna over blond brown will be some type of brown/red/auburn :)
That was so interesting to watch! I've heard of henna before but never seen it in action =) Great video, I love how you did the before, during and after! The glove and 'protection' comment cracked me up! I think the pre-colour (brown) and the red both look gorgeous =) How long does the colour last usually?
@Schmeggyroo Thanks! :) It's a permanent stain, but it definitely does have some fading. However, I've never noticed any roots with henna because it doesn't really change your color, it layers on top of it and brings lots of red highlights in the sun. Hope that answers :)
@fallenangel7431 Thanks, that does! I read about Lushes' henna products and have always been interested, but I've been going blonde with salon highlights for a while. Next time I go back to dark though (soon) I'll definitely give henna a try after salon darkening (best to avoid an at-home disaster! I'm hopeless!) =)

@fallenangel7431 thanks but is that brand tested on animals? i`m a vegan ^^ so its got to be animal friendly

@martijnspeed I'm pretty sure they don't test on animals, but I would go to a hair place and check the package to be sure :)
