  • @kmill621 Al-Nafysh (sp?) , The Soul by Hashim

  • this is amazing

  • Dj cheese was a major player in introducing scratching & battling in europe & forced traditional mix dj's to raise their standards & be more versatile...

Dj Cheese was a guest judge in the 2011 dmc usa dj finals & no- one took the time to get an interview....

  • I LOVE IT

  • fuckin ill! much respect to this dj's skills!!

  • The first introducing the scratch in the DMC battle!!!

  • Yeahhh

the Good time of DMC (Disco Mix Club),

so sad Mixes & Previews ep was "Strickly For Professional DJ's",,,

at this era they said "recorded = killing music"... ; ))))

  • FUNKY! this is a true master from back in the day, nice footage! man he has to stretch for that mixer when he's scratching on the second turntable!!

  • memories.... 14yrs old.twin cassette crown ghetto blaster, stu allan(souled out) manchester uk...they were the daze..............my hood getting bombed out with graff and bits of lino in the skool yard

  • wow, i was so honored to watch this. great classic set!

  • It's amazing to think about how hip hop progressed from the 80's into the 90's. There's only 5 to 10 years separating what sounds basic, to what still sounds modern even though it was made 15 years ago.

  • One of dance/street musics changing moments, this mix bred a new style of DJ/MUSIC just listen to the year b4 seamless mixing and the year after Alot more cutting up and transforming et al.

Awesome upload, awesome set, awesome days.

A very big thank you for taking me back to my teens.

  • i remember john peel would rate dj cheese highly. heard this mix on the radio back in the day, to see it is spellbinding. dj cheese is pure genius.

  • i had this on cassette from the DMC ..but it snapped a long long time ago. This is a moment that changed D.J-ing forever in the U.K. Shame Jazzy Jeff didn't make it over the following year with the "transformer" scratch....but Cheese's performance is legendary.Well done for finding this.

  • @chairmangee, I had the same tape. Recall some Dutch guy bitching that he thought Cheese wasn't really DJing (Orlando Voorn???), but I think it was on Robbie...........(I forget) Sunday night soul show on Radio 1. Played it to death on my Walkman. Just stunned to hear this again 20 plus years later. A legend of a mix.

  • WOW, I WITNESS CHEESE IN 85" IN NEW BRUNWICK,NJ CUTTIN WITH HIS SNEAKER..CLASSIC

  • I recorded this from Radio 1 in the UK. John Peel played the top 3. Played that tape to death!

  • thanks uproading!!

  • WHAT THE TITLE AT 3:42

    thx

  • WOWOWOWOWOWO :D mmmazing all the way. The break down and interpolation of the beats into "the show" is aww inspiring. Most dj's can't break it down like that these days..most.. and he's using pretty new records for the time and they have all become bonafied part of turntablism.

  • i remember hearing a scratch mix of singing in the rain back in the day, and i aint never heard it since- anybody know what it was called? it was a live lp.?

  • @DaddyFuManchu think it was on the Live At The Soul All Dayer Of The Century on LGR Records..

  • F%&$# all those wanna be dj's using damn computers and CD's to supposedly rock the clubs.... This is true DJing suckas'.... Two turntables and a drum machine... Technics 1200's the best! True Oldskool hip-hop....

  • Ohh My Days I remember Tapping this off the radio back in the Day think it was off the Jeff Young Show. Wore the Tape out in My Car. Never New there was video footage to this. A True Pioneer on The Turntables

  • @Craftus1 same as mate..- man, - Im in England was on live 1am on the radio,,- we used to have tape recorders back then.. hey. l;) heh. Was the Westwood show early days in Uk. cherished that tape for years/. Peace ;')

  • i thought no footage of this exsisted

  • absolute turntablist classic

  • Damn, back in the old Puma Crew days. I guess I'm showing mky age...

  • YO -- this is NOTTINGHAM HIP HOP cru - big shout to the GREATEST MC - SCORZAYZEE right now.....MY STYLE DJ PHASIX .....SONNY all the RAVEFM CRU...NOTTS CRU -- peace SONNY

  • Whoa, who are those guys in the beginning? Are the critters back?

  • Yeah Boyeee ... real DJ's back in the Day - I had the fortune to see perform live at the Brixton Academy - Simply incredible!

  • P-Funk Planfield always kickin ass with music, Yo!!!! That dude was cuttin it the fuck up, sharp as a tac.

Man big ups for uploadin this, I always heard it was lost or missing footage!

  • props for having this

  • wait a minute. I had the History of the DMC video a few years ago and Tony Prince said that there was no recording of the first DMC championship, How or where did you get this? i'm just asking, i would love to get a bopy of this

  • does anybody have the soundbyte or the clip of orlando voon protesting dj cheese's Win saying is this a scratching contest or a mixing contest?

  • @pureevil77 I can remember it almost ver batim, reckon the tape is in my folks loft somewhere......."and that's why I don't like it......" in some Goofy Dutch accent. Very funny.

  • I can remeber that interview almost verbatim. Had it on a tape with this mix.

  • Tracks used in the mix- Al-Naafiysh(the soul)- Hashim. Pump me up- Trouble Funk (Maybe- Grandmaster Flash). Do or Die (Bed Sty)- Divine sounds. The Show- Doug E Fresh. .........& missing from the mix is- Here we go- Run DMC.

  • ....& not forgetting, Fab 5 Freddy- Change the Beat!

  • Where can I find the 'FULL' mix of this?

  • This is HIP-HOP

  • Notice- Cheese uses the side of the record!

  • PUMP BABY PUMP 80'S POWAAAAAAA

  • The Audio version got me into the Turntable scene. History right there! I like cheese. Extra mature.

  • As Djing goes this is the 'holy grail' of footage, legend went that it was never filmed so I'm amazed to see it, i've had the audio on cassette for years & know it inside out but to see it too's crazy, thanks for posting, its worth noting that it was regarded 'uncool' to have decks anything but 'regulation' (tonearms to the side, mixer in middle) so Cheese loosened that idea and as tricks multiplied and mixers shrank Djs started turning the decks sideways(battle style) to tighten the space

  • I was there and remember the crowd reaction at approx 5:40 when he started creating drum beats.

People were blown away by that.

  • ♥

  • From NYC??? Nah jack...DJ Cheese is right from Plainfield, New Jersey...right around the way!!! One of the greatest of all time...

  • @meechamaka411 he actually from West Virginia, but came out here to further his career!!!

  • why the mixer is on the right side of the booth? shouldnt be in the middle?

  • @jorgef4 Doing it the same way Premo does it except he woks the mixer from the other side. Nice to see that DJ's can do it that way also. Didn't Flash use three turntables & two mixer for a short time in his career during the Electra years? Now that's tight. Wish i knew how he did it. I would think you would need two seperate headphones & that could get confusing.

  • I have always used my setup the same way.....Im nasty with the left hand...but cant do the same with the right.....and Im right handed. The only other thing I did different was that I han both turntable arms facing top down shortening the distance fromt the turntables to the mixer.

  • This setup definitely makes it difficult to do alot of the tricks we do these days! Still cool oldschool stuff!!! Props to cheese!

  • that shit is hard with those tables in cases so WIDE!! dam that was tight!! i saw Cheese in london with WORD OF MOUTH! never knew this 86 joint existed!! I've had those DMC catalogs since the early 90's and they never had this in there !

  • Chams De Baron!

  • Thats whats up!!! and now DMC is out of control with crazy technics because this brother did his thing back then.
