Its a stock '78 right? With stock FI and a stock Distributor?
You should have a Single can with centrifugal advance. Timing should be 7.5º BTDC like you were saying at idle with that vacuum hose connected.
You probably have hydro valves but make sure they're adjusted properly ( 1-2 turns in after 0 lash)
The other thing is, put some exhaust on that thing before you start trying to tune it. Chances are you just have a vacuum leak but it's going to be impossible to tell with it being that loud.
@6d4vdub There is no muffles on it at all right now, just straight exhaust from the heads. And the timing is wrong, I agree. The PO's nephew was an idiot. Ruined the car.
hey Max...not that familiar w/fuel injected engines myself, but one thing you may want to check is your ignition timing...sounds to me like it may be to far advanced.
That's weird, it seemed to run ok when you had the exhaust off. Check all your wires, your bus is fuel injected right? That's a different monster than what I'm use to. =-) You might need to adjust the Air Flow Meter, Might be getting too much air not enough fuel or vice verca. I'll post this video on the club website, see if they have any suggestions.

The one guy in the club said the timing is way advanced.

It is I believe. I will be setting it to the correct 7.5 BTDC this week sometime, then I need to find the vacuum leaks and fix them.
Thanks for the tip.

I agree with Hambone, Timing is way advanced. Is that a bad muffler leak or do you have 4 rods knocking???? So much noise I can't tell.

@1968hambone Hey Hambone, yes the timing is very much advanced, and I will be fixing that. I'll get a new video up tomorrow morning of it idling.

@Corollaboi I still have the exhaust off. I pulled the plug on the AFM and it idled fine, it even revs and everything. I can drive it like this.
Thanks, let me know if you get anything from your club.
