Byron doesn't have a large tone? Have you ever heard him in person? The guys sound is HUGE! He plays a custom Schilke MPC copy of an older Bach 1 1/4 that Scott Laskey made for him some years ago , very large...
What ever! I just don't like the way he plays and solos compared to an Arturo Sandoval or Chuck Findley. Byron isn't at that level yet. That's my opinion and I'm sicking to it. You have yours and I respect that. I think I know a little about the subject being a musician and an ex-trumpet player for over 20 years...
You may be an EX-Trumpet player, but AM a professional TRUMPET player over 20 years now. I believe I know what I'm talking about friend-o, true, we ALL have our opinion, I do agree that Byron is not in the class with Findley (watch the CHEROKEE battle-Findley outplays Sandoval, Stripling & Brecker, outplays them in terms of musical ideas that is.)
Just don't think you're the only pro musician here.
Byron Stripling knows how to play through certain embouchure problems he has had for many years. The first problem is that he uses a shallow mouthpiece, and the guy has very thick lips. The second problem is because of the shallow mouthpiece he doesn't have a large sound or tone on the trumpet, but that's just an opinion of a musician with 20 plus years experience. --Bye-
I don't know what number mouthpiece he uses but the man has embouchure problems, this is well documented. Checkout his solo and if your an experienced trumpet player you will agree with me.

doesn't he use a BACH 1B mouthpiece (this wouldn't be shallow...)???
