I too have this top of the line receiver. Bought  it NEW in NY city for $1100 cash. This is one of the Few and Rare Post-Silver Era Pioneer models that maintains the Pure Pioneer sound quality and over-built construction techniques that we havent' seen since the Silver Era (SX-1980, SX-1280, etc.)_...

130-wpc Conservatively (actual REAL Watts, not the fake scale either) at 0.005% THD - try to find that in today's models. This is the continuous average output, not peak.

Hi there, I've this amp at home still, with all the speaker inplace working nicely.

HOWEVER, i would like to update this old machine with a new amp while keeping all the Speakers in its old spot.

(I am not a HIFI guy, my experience is as good as hooking up a 5.1 xbox setup only)

So would u please suggest an Amp for me to buy? ( i would not want to Over power the exisiting speaker or under power it. Also, there is no subwoffer in the current setup, should i get one?)

is this possible?

@scoobychau You can go for a new Pioneer and yes I would add a subwoofer. the new stuff don't have the cool look of this receiver tho.

Hi , I have 0ne like that too , I brough in 1991 around $1200 . and it served me pretty good. Until last 5 years I didn't uesd it because my speakers was broken. Then a week ago i repair my speakers and hook it up with my Pioneer vsx d1s , it plays no sound at all except direct mode . do you know any thing about this ? Please and thanks

@thanh20 one thing to check is make sure the Tape 2 monitor is turned off. I sold mine a few years ago but also may be some other setting you maybe over looking.

@thanh20 hello,this is prostudio54.I have the same receiver hooked up right now connected with power amps.With the problem your having,If you check in the back of the receiver you would see three amps.Make sure that the front amp have two jumper plugs in it,and the same for the surround amp,the center amp only takes one It's a silver u shape plug.If it still does not work send me a few lines.

I still have this beautiful baby along with its matching EQ,double tape deck, remote and manual + box...AWESOME., It was giving to me by my brother who paid $1100 for it back in 1991 in NYC in cash brand new. It's still considered 1 of the BEST A/V Digital Receivers EVER made. @ 135 RMS WPC @ 8ohms & total harmonic distortion .0003%. its a VERY CLEAN powerful amplifier..period. I recommend a CU-AV200 as your primary remote with this receiver. Will post my pics soon for your pleasure. Thks

@prostudio54 Sorry I do not own this anymore. I repair stereos & Computers as my side job/hobby. I had it for about a year in 2006-2007 but sold it on ebay. I do miss it but it was replaced by a 5.1 model.

@cheettah1 I wish I knew the song title. It was recorded off the radio when I live in Chicago back in the early 1990's. It was recorded off B96. They played alot of Eurobeat, rap, hiphop, dance, techno, etc. 96.3 in Chicago is a one of a kind radio station.

I have the VSX 415.

Its a 3 year old budget receiver and combined with my Sony 2 way front speakers it has a very clear sound.

My neighbour has a Harmon Kardon system but even he was surprised

what quality this 200 euro Receiver has.

One other thing. Pioneer when it come to cars makes the best stinking 4 way rear deck speakers out there. Americas in change now..WE WANT 130 RMS SURROUND UNDER 500 BUCKS with 4 way speakers in home front and back.... you got it we know it.. we have it...If Pioneer has lost it they need to go back and find it.. Man I look at 75 watt speakers now (25rms) Kick them in the head Pioneer.. You got it..

Yeah...What the hell happened to Pioneer...My system (still working) pumps out 130 RMS...to the speakers..That's what you hear..I've been looking for surround sound systems even close...You can't touch the old school... I settled on the Yamaha receivers(Outstanding) after much research..because Pioneer does not post the RMS no more. DUH! Everyone wants it loud and separated. If it's not separated IT's got to be loud.. Great video...glad I still have my old Pioneer.

nice vid. after watching this, i`m not going to sell my old vsx (i have a d701s). But, it´s so weird about the volume, i can barely manage to pump up to 8 or 10 cuz it will blow my house away (i have 2 cs907 pioneer and 2 jbl stadium venue hooked up). and my vsx has 110w rms x 7. even less than yours. my home theater sony pales in comparison. vintage pioneer is still a monster today.

I bought on elast week for $100 bucks, probably the best $100 i have ever spent!! I dont need digital. This works just fine for me! The replacement remotes are pricy tho

these things rock. I bought mine while I was stationed Berlin, Germany in 1991. I won't say what I paid for it over there on the military base, but it was right at half price of what it was selling for here in the states. I had Infinity 151, and bose speakers. Still have the Bose hooked up. That thing just rocked with both sets cranked up. I'm trying to find a replacement remote for it right now.

hi nice video! i have the same amply as you and a question about it =) i'm hearing like a buzz when i switch to pro logic from direct sound. it happens mostly when the input sound source gets low on volume (like when a song ends). i know sound quality with pro logic isn't supposed to be THE "mind blowing" experience, but i expected more of this little beast. could it be that there is some componet malfunction? do you experience the same kind issue?

yo, thanks for the response! no im quite sure that it is not the speakers. in fact they work pretty well. as i stated above i am having this problem only when im not in direct. if i switch either jazz, dance, or other ambient EQ's or ProLogic the audio starts buzzing when the input sound (PC, iPod, whatever.. i tried lots of sources to, line, aux, VCR, bleh..) gets low on volume. im going to try luck and send it to a audio workshop to see if they solve this problem out :)

wow u must have some real shitty speakers hooked up to that becuase on mine i have a BOSE acoustimass AM-5 2 cube speakers and the sub and i can hardly put my volume up to 8 before the windows in my room will blow out and it seamed like you had yours up to like looked like 13 and it seamed like nothing... advice get bose speakers. it will make your system 100 times better.

The music source was from a pc and the pc volume was not all the way up. btw Bose speakers are just ok they are very over rated. I am running BIC speakers and I have upgraded to a 5.1 reciever for my surround with a Polk Audio sub. My step dad has a Bose set up and mine blows it away!!!!

My Pioneer receiver started to drop audio. It was a sad day. Had it hooked up with BSR Thunderlizards (remember those from DAK?) Sadly, sold them both at a garage sale. Held onto the 6+1 Cassette (CT-WM60R, posted a comment in your other thread) and a CU-VSX045 "programmable remote control unit". Do you use the control unit patch to run the other components with the same remote?
