This song blows my brain away..! Really a great one!
Like AcidX said before..I Wish to see them live again! It was great when I saw them last time!!
However, for those who are interessted.
Check out the band "nyctalgia" and their "Falling into nothingness", a great newcomer I think...and people who like mogwai,Sigur Ros,etc will like this one..It's not my band but worth checking it out!
does anyone know who created/directed this video? the rather spooky, blind path, in which a series of objects and wounded mannequins progressively lights up closely resembles german artist gregor schneider's interactive installations. a brilliant idea, anyway!
This video is well done. At first view it's just a lot of strange imagery for the sake of being strange. But then I think of the title "Friend of the Night", and I begin to realize how closely dream can turn into nightmare, and back again, and how it's all random and familiar at the same time.
The song is beautiful. The chorus is dark and mysterious, and the chorus arrives melancholy, but with a sense of hope to the chords. Brilliant.
I agree, but maybe it takes time to like these kind of music. Its not like we're used to hearing this kind of music, at least I'm not. But I'm listening, I like music that's fresh and different.
most of the top 40 crap that calls itself art needs to watch this, because they're doing a complete disservice to guys who are actually selling out to make cohesive, all-encomapassing artistic expression... like mogwai... every damn day.
this was, in a completely generic, inadequate word: brilliant. i'll be thinking about it for days.
A Silver Mt. ZION ( Stumble then rise on some awkward morning ), This Will Destroy You, Explosions in the Sky, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Do Make Say Think, Mouth of The Architecht, God is An Astronaut.
I asked you a question, and you for some reason chose to evade it.. it's monotone and every garage-band with semi-decent equipment could pull it off, you know it.
speaking of monotony... how about your stupid rantings about what's good and what isn't? guess what, you and johan both fail for arguing over personal opinion.
Mogwai have done some truly beautiful music..... I remember Reading festival 2001, Mogwai were playing, I staggered into the their tent late at night, trashed on vodka, I remember being transfixed, ahh happy memories, every music fan should go to a festival at least once
One of my friends introduced me to Mogwai and I gotta say my music library was missing something before I found them. They are amazing and this song is brilliant. Definately one of my favorites.
Beautiful film clip too. Do you think it's just a random dream type sequence? or that there is a story...for some reason I get the impression its about the lifecycle and aging?
This music entirely instrumental so it requires people to listen. Which for those who only like music for face value, probably won't like this. This music is subtle in nature but well done.
There is Mogwai, this band, and Moguai actually sounds like a dance act best known for their honestly more-irritating-than-sexy "Sex Secret". There is your answer.
Generally they are regarded as post rock yeah, although I heard somewhere that the band themselves hate being tagged as post rock. Like sigur ros, they are their own style.
Doesn't really matter, they are awesome either way. They know how to be subtle and when to break out. So hoping that the next album brings a tour where they somehow end up in Australia so I can see them live.
Great band, and beautiful music video to match an equally beautiful and relaxing piece of music. What more can I say?
Mogwai are one of the best, if not thee best, band to ever come out of Scotland. They've been making real music since 1995 and have never sold-out to the mainstream, not that that I think they ever will anytime soon.
Oh and, by the way, Mogwai's new studio album, The Hawk Is Howling set for release on September 22nd 2008. Can't wait!!
