i agree, riverbend campground is where it's at. there is no law at this campground and anything goes. we met some great people and had a blast. no rules really makes for a great time
I live 15 mins from Deer Creek, which as been great. Too bad Noblesville got so crowded, but that couldn't be avoided. Build it and they will come....
Btw, I HATE n2. Please, people, don't do them. Put the n2 mafia out of biz. If you do them, please sit down 1st!
i still think its the best thing under the sun, take what you can from it! i do notice how the shows from when i went, like 97-toyota park, the older shows had so much more FUNK! naked people, clowns, WOOKIES, u name it. i just saw the '10 opener in chicago and it was like, wide open, but strictly BUSINESS! 20$ for 3 baloons, 20$ for a heat press t-shirt. atleast the heady beer was still 3 for 5$. but they still rocked it out and i got my moneys worth. they still got it in 'em!
The Best camping by far is off the grounds of deer creek. Riverbend provides peace and beauty along a little river that has kayaks available. Picnic tables all over, fire rings, showers, bathrooms etc. Plus u can get away with any of your party favors. I camped there from 95' --2002 20 min. drive to venue and cheap. (very beautiful too.) Nothing tops it!
@srruckoldt green acres, damn was big dude at the front countin his money. lol.....that was the best time of my life....i was at this 3 nighter tho...96 would have been great..did they open with the smashing pumpkins song "ryno" and like "ride captain ride" blah what evs that shit was fun....
i always saw this as the end of the good feeling era of phish. i saw phish at deer creek more than i can count. i still remember a heady girl walking around with a "love" for tickets sign. so care-free at a time when we should have been alert to the world
Yeah, I was there (wouldn't have missed it) every show '98- '04 (Trey Band in '01 and '02). I'm sure it didn't compare to Dead tour, but it was all we had and it was great. My brother (newby) came with me in '04, got too drunk and high, then spent most of his time passed out in the lawn. He was surprised at how many people came by to make sure he was OK (very atypical for a show he'd usually go to). Oh yeah, and HOTEL SCHMOTEL! Sleep in the dirt man!
Those fuckin shady dready kids on tour after the dead split where such a fuckin downer every time i went to a show. Their fake jah love and shifty elitism ruined it all.
oh man i love the scene where everyone is walkin down the lot w/ balloons in their hands....ahhh such memories....phish is amazing.....and deer creek is still one of the greatest venues ever.... and they wanted to tear it down....pft
Yea, the early to mid '90s were the best times for Phish and their fans. It really sucked that the "Fratboy, suburban richkids, lets do drugs and be cool and start fights at a phish show" ruined the scene. Yea, some people just dont know what the music was all about!!! A Phish show in 95 was full of peace, harmony, friendship and good times. A show in 2000 was about avoiding the police because assholes fucked everything up...thanks, Fratboys!
You know honestly I can't say that I had too many "bad" experiences at a phish show from 95 to the end. The worst I remember is VA Beach, it is odd that a stranger will prescribe or condemn somebody's substance of choice for a show. Sometimes I wonder if I was "confused" as a "fratboy" since I've always been clean cut due to the full time jobs I've continually held since 1994. I never felt the need to play "dress-up" for a show, I think I even went w/ scrub pants on once.....
I never prescribed or condemned anybody's substance of choice. I did my fair share of drugs at Phish shows too, and I dressed nice at my full time jobs as well. I think that you missed my point which was I saw and witnessed things that were atypical for a Phish show like guys in Fraternity shirts beating up hippies and acting like complete assholes and only going to the shows to get fucked up and start trouble...not that I was assuming anything about anybody; I went to College too.
@phineasgauge69 im in a fraternity, i do none of this, i believe we're very respectable within our organization, dont label people its judgmental .. ive seen assholes all over the place but ive rarely seen fights at a phish concert, maybe a little banter here and there but thats what alcohol does sometimes .. i dont appreciate always being labeled a stupid, richboy frat guy
@Vinsanity15814 Yeah, I guess I was generalizing. I know not all frats are like this, but being labled a "Fratboy" and it being a negative stereotype is nothing new. And yes, alcohol mixed with drugs, and people that cant handle their drugs turns shit bad really quick. The Atlanta show on Halloween 1996 was like that...when I was outside of the show avoiding the police and kept having to get up and move because drunk "Young Men" throwing beer bottles. Couldnt burn one in peace. HA!
the whole phish/chese/moe and new bullshit scene are nasty ..after Jerry died i split 4 good.I miss 420 but i really dont,i think its a mental thing-iam better now without it man..
yeah...I'm not trying to judge anyone, but you GOTTA camp at the creek. Not on sight either. My buddy made camp on sight in like '00 or '01, it sucked. I remember camping off grounds back in '96-'99 those were the best times. And in reference to the end of your video, Deer Creek is such an awesome place for the OFF GROUNDS camping scene.
If I remember right...this dude sold beer, although I was skeptical he cleared enough to "hotel" it each night. I can tell you I stayed in motels or cars most of the time and I most certainly never had a trust fund, just saved all my money and vacation time.

I've never seen bonging beers at a Phish show. Sloppy drunk is not the buzz you want at a Phish show.
