I'm Native Hawaiian, and If I lived in Chicago I'd go to his church. I live in Utah so there's no black churches in my community, but if there were, I'd attend them every sunday. Preachers who teach African liberation theology are not afraid to call it like it is, and that's what we need in religion, enough of sugar coating everything.

@CavGuy19d I do attend a Hawaiian church, but it's not like a Hawaiian theology or anything, it's just a pentecostal church with a predominately Native Hawaiian congregation. Maybe I don't understand the concept of black liberation theology well enough. But it can't be as evil as the Catholic Church.

Liberation theology calls to wake some very good aspects that church at large has ignored, that is the present suffering. So much of church deals with just the spiritual life (acknowledging its crucial importance) nonetheless we CAN NOT keep ignoring certain issues (In terms of constructing a theology that can speak to these issues) Liberation theology does that.
The whole concept of "God" is a European construct. Jeremiah, you are still misleading "our" people. Lets be specific about the "oppression of isreal... They where not oppressed under the "Ancient" Egyptians. They "may" have had some issues with the Greek/Romans but lets get it straight the ancient Egyptians did not persecute them.
you only concentrate on structural sin. Liberation theology does not concentrate much or at all at the personal sin. It doesn't concentrate on the broken relationship man and God. This is why Black liberation theology can lead to heresy. sin is both structural and personal. Your identity is based on the image of God and the triune God. If your identity is based on oppression, then you won't make progress in your life. This theology has harm the black community more than ever.
@daming209 As a person who doesn't believe in god whatsoever, I find Liberation Theology to have great utility because it dedicates a lot of it's focus on material problems instead of spiritual problems - I think because of it's analysis of real world issues, it promotes education, and somewhat keeps people from the pitfalls of many other religious denominations that focus on figures, icons, and idols instead of class, poverty, and history (outside of religious books).
what I think you overlook or minimize is that by addressing the massive social injustices and poverty of blacks (who have only 10% of the wealth of this nation), you will also address many of the ills addressing poor whites. Poor whites are a false contrast w/ the position of slave descendant. King, like Wright tried to help ALL Americans. (war is bad for America). Wright preaches the teachings of Jesus & the Bible if you read it. Condemning evil and injustice is God's LOVE.

Sounds like a good sermon to me. White churches don't talk about these issues in current terms. they use lod stories from the bible to teach the people how to live and to treat others. For this reason they are removed at a basic level from the issues in the bible stories. Black churches have long made the issues real. They use the bible to speak about problems that face church members in real terms. That's not bad. It's a good idea actually.

So if he's talking about the word of God being the perfect prophetic word of Yah, then how did you deduce that Rev. Wright "left out 'Jesus Christ"? I'm Native Hawaiian, and If I lived in Chicago I'd go to his church. I live in Utah so there's no black churches in my community, but if there were, I'd attend them every sunday. Preachers who teach African liberation theology are not afraid to call it like it is, and that's what we need in religion, enough of sugar coating everything.

Maybe I don't understand the concept of black liberation theology well enough. But it can't be as evil as the Catholic Church.

Liberation theology calls to wake some very good aspects that church at large has ignored, that is the present suffering. So much of church deals with just the spiritual life (acknowledging its crucial importance) nonetheless we CAN NOT keep ignoring certain issues (In terms of constructing a theology that can speak to these issues) Liberation theology does that.

The whole concept of "God" is a European construct. Jeremiah, you are still misleading "our" people. Lets be specific about the "oppression of isreal... They where not oppressed under the "Ancient" Egyptians. They "may" have had some issues with the Greek/Romans but lets get it straight the ancient Egyptians did not persecute them.

you only concentrate on structural sin. Liberation theology does not concentrate much or at all at the personal sin. It doesn't concentrate on the broken relationship man and God. This is why Black liberation theology can lead to heresy. sin is both structural and personal. Your identity is based on the image of God and the triune God. If your identity is based on oppression, then you won't make progress in your life. This theology has harm the black community more than ever.

@daming209 As a person who doesn't believe in god whatsoever, I find Liberation Theology to have great utility because it dedicates a lot of it's focus on material problems instead of spiritual problems - I think because of it's analysis of real world issues, it promotes education, and somewhat keeps people from the pitfalls of many other religious denominations that focus on figures, icons, and idols instead of class, poverty, and history (outside of religious books).

what I think you overlook or minimize is that by addressing the massive social injustices and poverty of blacks (who have only 10% of the wealth of this nation), you will also address many of the ills addressing poor whites. Poor whites are a false contrast w/ the position of slave descendant. King, like Wright tried to help ALL Americans. (war is bad for America). Wright preaches the teachings of Jesus & the Bible if you read it. Condemning evil and injustice is God's LOVE.

Sounds like a good sermon to me. White churches don't talk about these issues in current terms. they use lod stories from the bible to teach the people how to live and to treat others. For this reason they are removed at a basic level from the issues in the bible stories. Black churches have long made the issues real. They use the bible to speak about problems that face church members in real terms. That's not bad. It's a good idea actually.
