It pisses me off that the scrap value of aluminium is so low. It's a wonderful clean metal, anti corrosive and used in a million different ways from making aeroplanes to bottle caps. It does not exist in pure form and it's expensive to mine. Unfortunately I guess, its the most common element in the earths crust. In Ireland at the moment, one gets a mere 70c a kilo for it as scrap (kilo = 2.2 Lbs). ye guys in the states get 5c for a mere empty soda can and 10c cents in some states.
Hey, ithe heavy bit of ally was from a computer circuit board i think, i found a few old PC´s in a skip, its one of the biggest ive found really weighty
You know so much about this, Thank you for putting this on the net. Your'e videos are interesting as hell. My brother and me took apart all kinds of stuff for motors when we were kids(hooking them up to batteries and switches..stuff like that)Stripping wires to hook stuff up, too bad we didn't know we could of made money doing that kinda stuff..just thinking of how much stuff we threw away and didn't know about sucks.Great Video's! Just wondering, What is the worst injury you ever got scraping?
We have all done that before thrown things away when they were worth somthing. i wonder how much scrap money is sitting in tips around the world? The only injury ive had is "wire strippers rist" lol well more the thumbs, as you are holding the wire to strip in your hand you have to run it through your fingure and thumbs..and this i where it hurts. It nackerd my thumb up for a bout three weeks! Other then that i have a lot of common sence so dont really hurt my self that much.
i think those motherboards we found in a skip, Put an advert in your local paper "wanted all broken and old house hold appliances" maybe offer a free gift. Some time i have olive oil which i give to people in exchange for scrap, its not what it is its the thought that countsQ
Aluminium has been really low priced over the last few years here, its started to pick up resently so when ive had the odd bit of ally wire saved up i weigh that in seperate to the rest, im still learning what i can and cant way in here in Spain. From talking to other people on youtube ive lernt it easier to weigh in copper windings from motors, then it is to spend time strip the copper of!! Its worth finding the price of everything in my oppinion
Hey man, good question. i dont think there is anybody local buying circuitboards. Over the last few years there has been a steady increase in computer scrap we have been finding. Most people here tend to use internet cafes, as they dont have there own computers. We live in a holiday area, so there isnt that many people living here permantly. (not like a big city). The only person that would pay us is a scrapyard, we have to strip the boards first.
@ruaur1 You are lucky than. We can dispose of them for free here only because the recycler has a deal with the county. Otherwise we have to pay 50C/lb to get rid of stuff like that.
@ruaur1 That's not right at all, damn i thought it was wrong for our city to give us trash bins cause you can only throw away so much each week and they want you too neatly put everything they can make money off of in the recycle bin, you should see the stuff at the trash dump that people just throw away that we can't touch cause its the city's property now.
That dose suck! There should be some kind of insentive that would allow people to bring old electrical equipment to the dump and get discount of house hold products. I could see how this would benefit the local council, these schemes would work well if the council used the money to make your city better, clean roads, parks etc. Also if the item that has been dumped and it is still in good working order or they think they can sell it, then have a shop at the dump. easy!
A few times, normally we dont find the industrial coffee makers, the ones made of stainless steal. We do find ones made of plastic (cheaply made) they have a tiny bit of ally in them. If it is a big machine then it is likly to have more copper and ally in it.
@ruaur1 Ive also found a little(but, dense)piece of brass and im pretty sure aluminum on the vcr head, plus there's a little copper in there also and im not sure if you could sell the circuit board or not but, they would prob. take it with the other parts as tin.

I wounderd the same, i had a load of circuit boards that i took to the scrapyard and they took them as "chappa mixto" like tin mix.
