We should be thankful for Ms. Philippines' 3rd place finish and stop being bitter about everything from Vivica Fox to the rightful winner Ms. Angola! I agree with the comment that Shamcey's tense expression while answering to her somewhat selfish answer might have cost her the title. She could have said, "Yes, I would change my belief for the man I love because I believe true love should cross all boundaries....There may be different religions but only one God."

However, a moderator of the Oprah Winfrey Network confirmed that Winfrey did not make the comment following an inquiry about it on the Oprah Winfrey website.
"There is no truth to the statement. Ms. Winfrey has not made any comments of this nature. Thank you for asking," read the moderator's statement.
OH, PEPCYCOOL, YOU´RE WRONG. THERE WAS JUST ONE LATINA MISS IN THIS CONTEST IN TOP 5, SHE WAS MISS BRAZIL. MISS ANGOLA IS AFRICAN, MISS RHILIPINES IS ASIAN, CHINA IS ASIAN AND UKRAINE IS EAST EUROPEAN, MY BRO!!
maybe next time.,, miss philippines candidate should speak "tagalog" maybe by that time miss philippines will win...all miss universe candidates should know how to speak the universal language which is english so that all of us can say that there is no bias.. this is a brain and beauty contest and if they are really intelligent they should know how to speak the universal language...am i right? who's with me? pls thumbs up..
..yup,, Ms. Philippines , Shamcey Supsup should be the Miss Universe.. she didn`t even spent a single second to rethink her answer.. she is really that intellegent.. she should have won.. but, as what she says,, if she won, she`d like us to be happy,, so with that .. we should be happy for Ms. Angola too.. But Ms. Philippines is really good.. even Oprah said she should have won... i wonder whats gonna happen whwn she comes back here in the Philippines.. that would be a great event ..
To all out there, on a diverse cultural set-up, if were gonna analyze the answer of Ms. Philippines, it is a celebration of feminism. The equality of men and women. In most countries, men predominantly dictates marriage. Her wife to-be should change her religion and follow the man's religion. This applies to Philippine set-up as well. But with the way Ms. PHL answered, she proved that if should not always be the case. Man should respect woman's belief and should honor it if he really loves her.
I am from Phillipines but I agree that Miss Angola deserves the crown. She has this x factor. She's getting more beautiful as you stare at her. And this pageant its not all about beauty and brains. I admire her so much because she has been helping the people in her country even before the miss universe. Her beauty is radiating from within. It is like you want to dig deeper into her personality just by looking at her face. Other contestants do not have that x factor.
NO OFFENSE TO THE PHILIPINO CHINESE AND BLACK GIRL BUT THE VENZUELAN THE COLOMBIAN THE PORTUGUESE EVEN THE ONE FROM INDIA WHERE BETTER LOOKING THEN THOSE
Her answer was the right one. The question wasnt, If you were to marry someone would they have to believe in your god and convert. The question would you change what you believe in in order to marry someone. Some people are religious, some people arent. Its when one side tries to change the other you get things like war. I dont believe in god, but I wouldnt make someone stop believeing in god either. Her answer was the only one that wouldnt make her a sellout.
Err. I really didnt manage to watch this on that exact day. Ive only watch this now but.. I think, Angola have done a good job. And this is coming from a Filipina. Ofcourse, my bet is Ms. Supsup but after watching this, I have to say that Angola deserves her title. She's beautiful and has a great smile. She gave a good answer too. Its just that Im shocked that Ms. Philippines only got 3rd runner up.. She deserves to be the 1st runner up though. Well.. Thats just my opinion.
MISS.UNIVERSE sad to say it sucks! winning a woman in this pagent who can not speak english is a NON-SENSE. how she can represent the universe then by her beauty or by her translator or maybe its just a title?
Miss Philippines was certainly prettier than Ms Brazil (In my opinion) but I think the most beautiful woman won fair and square.. I don't know why wenwen is putting so much emphasis on the fact she answered without an interpretor as i don't think it makes any difference what language they answer in only in the answer they give.
Look on the bright side.. Philippines has millions of beautiful women, there can't be much more than one in Angola.
so you're all saying the other girls should learn a language they would probably never speak in their home country just for Miss Universe on top of their degrees and shit.
Well if you ask me that's unfair because English may be the supposed universal language which gives countries like USA, Australia, Phillipines etc an advantage but for MAJORITY of other countries, its not. It just means the other girls have to LEARN another language for the sake of this while the native speakers dont.
“I have reservations with the results. If the only basis is the Q and A portion, after having been trimmed down to 5, Ms. Philippines deserved to win. What made her different from the rest is that she had no seconds to rethink of her answer as she had no interpreter to break the ice. The rest had their interpreters and having breaks on seconds to think about their answers. Hands down, Ms. Philippines answered straight to the point.( comment from Oprah Winfrey)”

Maybe next Miss Universe Pageant Miss Philippines will speak tagalog and had an interpreter so maybe there is a chance to get the crown. According to Senator Chiz .. mga pageant contestant natin mag tagalog lang sa QnA with smart interpreter baka mananalo pa tayo...
Miss Philippines answered the question well when it comes to context, BUT!!she missed the poise! She answered like very seriously and like an intelligent student explaining a scientific concept, she only smiled in the end. Angola answered gracefully, with much poise, in a very womanly manner. That's a Miss Universe, also, Miss Angola's answer is not bad at all. Perhaps next time let's just have a Filipino translator on stage for our contestant, none other than Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago!
@nimbusxiii maybe not.... we dont know but i think ms salonga did a great job... i think she's not bias.... she judged the ladies fair and balance....

Miss Philippines should have won . Think about it , Miss "UNIVERSE" , then doesn't even know how to speak the "UNIVERSAL" language ? Non - sense . See how people nowadays are crazy .
Well that's the tradition. But thinking about it, THE CONTESTANTS ARE NOT IDIOTs not to understand english. So it's kinda unfair because they can think of their answer while the interpreter translates the question and their answer. Maybe the judges are expecting a yes answer from Miss Philippines.
for me Ms. Philippines will be the Miss Universe 2011 because she answered the question direct to the point without any rethink or interpreter, that is one why many of Latina Beauties Won in Miss Universe because they have a interpreter and they have a time to think their answer again. i have a Question! what is the sense of Miss Universe if, even in simple Language there's no Universal? or there's no Unison language?
@wenwen212005 your right!.. you can say that it's the rule of the tongue that when you can speak English while your english is not your nat. language you can say your smart, or just simply you are educated well|(sorry for my english hahah)
As usual, "lutong macao", favoritism, politicizing, and corruption. Vivica Fox is really a bitch as obvious. Asian countries should boycott this pageant next year. This is not a fair beauty contest. Corrupt.
