  • i think he had to have sold his soul to the devil! He's sooooooooooooooooo goood

  • what raincoat?

  • I personally don't care if he "messed up" on this one performance. In my opinion, he's Ian freakin' McCulloch and he can do whatever he wants. lol.

  • It's really hard to sing this song live, and I believe that Ian did a pretty good job. Not the most amazing of their performances, but it's one of my favorite songs by them and I think it was still good.

  • @bookwormgal1996 Also it's just the chorus that Ian had some problems with, everything else was perfect :) <3

  • @bookwormgal1996 It's not actually a hard song to sing. He was singing it up an octave in the chorus!!

  • @joydivided23 I know, that was what really went wrong here. And you're also right about it not being such a hard song to sing.

  • @joydivided23 Unless of course, you sing it an octave higher then your supposed to haha

  • rock and roll

  • Great song. Ian trully is a great front man , he's got charisma. I've seen the Bunnymen live on stage Ian captures your attention. He doesn't need to dance or jump around on stage just standing there is enough, he fills the entire stage floor.

  • man what a percussion job this must have been....

  • this band 's very awsome best era~peace<3R.

  • macca is the half brother of carol vordermann!

  • My god, I love Mac. So amazing. <3<3<3

  • magaleng magaleng!

  • It is just ignorant to describe them as a rock band. They were much, much, much, much, much more than that.

  • Supurb! love Ian Mc much love and blessings and thnx for your gifts.<3R!

  • this is just awe.. echo and the bunnymen are cool as fuck...xxx

  • amazing performance

  • I agree with DianaDiazSinger...Ian just shredded his voice over the years. Chain smoking didnt help either among other things. I first saw them in 1980 during the camo thing and his voice was powerful. Awesome. In my opinion,by 1984 the damage was becoming more apparent. Remember also that 1980-81 was the time they were trying to prove themselves as a major force and they did not dissapoint.

  • completely captivating

  • meravigliosaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

  • stupendaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!

  • DianaDiazSinger - Ya I hear ya... but when one smokes, and drinks like there is no tomorrow, there is no way you can try to intercede in progress and the evolution of self mutilation which sounds quite soulful.

  • weird thing, it's 5 am in the morning here, this song suddenly comes to my mind, and I just HAD to listen to this song.

  • i have bought the vinyl album in the 80's and every day i get more respect for these guys. Great artists and the album is stille better than it was in 1985

  • Sorry that I didn't disclose my age ____50 -- But then you knew that -----DIDN'T YOU!!!!

  • I saw this on " The Tube" just b4 it was released and loved it, however -when it was finally "cut"- when it came out - I was so surprised he decided 2 do this with the low notes--probably a professional decision, in so much as u can't sing this(version) 2 many times without damaging your vocal chords-==You have 2 cruise sometime if, you are going 2 sustain your singing career!!!!-Probably a wise choice in the end.

  • They may have recorded multiple takes and the version with him singing lower sounded the best. But I do really enjoy this version. It's not so much a matter of cruising as it is that Ian could sometimes be a bit pitchy as he was here. If he'd had some vocal training he could have done it with ease.

  • Horrible version! Sing lower please!

  • MADONNA CHE VOCE E VAI SON TORNATI

  • 24 over here...

but also today echo could have been alternative...

  • I love it when he hits those lower notes...mmmm!

  • haha, I love your name!

  • I'm 38. I bought the album when it came out. And I *still* listen to it at least once a month :-)

  • Mac sounds like he's straining a bit here - but still a phenomenal performance.

And as long as we're disclosing ages, I'm 27.

  • 80's alternative FTW.

I own this on 'Ocean rain' "12 :D

  • Excellent version!

  • Not their best song but I liked it. I didn't know there were so many Bunnymen fans on here. I'm guessing we're all over the age of 35 though.

  • Not me, I'm 26.

  • nah, im 18

  • I'm 24. I do like this one and it sounds much better live. It's much better to find TV clips like this.

  • lol yeah im 17. perfect proof that good music transcends any boundary. cliche but needed.

  • SWEEEEET!!

  • I'm 16.

  • I'm sorry for all the swear words i've used to desciribe today's hip hop youth. Kind of makes me think there's still hope. NO fuck it there's no hope.

  • O_O

    oh myyyy GAH

    he's so cute :D

    lmao x]

  • great live performance... definitely not an easy one to sing...

  • For sure. The song should come with a warning. It covers a huge range and sits in areas where the voice tends to have problems.

  • I know this is "duh", but Ian...oh my!

  • mine is double 'duh' ..Pete De Freitas was fit

  • Yeah, not bad...I actually didn't know much about them. I looked up Pete after reading your comment. I didn't realize he had died! Sad.

  • In 1984 they were the best band in the world. I liked them anyway. Pete RIP x

  • Lol the audience just stands there- but what could they do? If these men had somehow been transported into the Roman era with amplification, they surely would be worshiped as gods.

  • Bunnymen were and are worshiped as gods by their true bunnyfans.Really!

  • love it, sets shivers down my spine

  • I love this song. it really brings you back to the eighties .(when i last heard it ).Its a real classic . mind you i prefare the recorded version with deeper register i can tell you with this song i was in another world . being a classical musician myself. thanks for the song.

  • Meeee toooo! I sang opera.

  • Some folk upset here, in bad taste. Whoy, why, look at a posting and slag it? Maybe you're right - only history will tell. But you look - hassled, bitter. It's self destructive.

  • ian reminds me a little of peter murphy in this vid

    thanks for uploading!

  • lay down the raincoat and groove to EATB.

  • ok now, WTF is the blond guy with the ugly hairvut saying at the beginning?!? I only got the ''Echo And The Bunnymen'' part of his words. Great song by a great band though

  • Buen video, a los fans mi mail is jraulbuelna@hotmail com vivo en Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico

  • I love you for uploading this

  • love it... its perfect... ty

  • love it AWESOME!!!!!!

  • I love you Dr. Cheese...

  • ....So take me in turns internally

    When I'm on fire

    My body will be

    Forever yours

    Nocturnal me...

  • I very much love this, love the dark feel about it!

  • quality

  • Many bands owe this one, even U2.

  • U2 had established their style long before this track was recorded. However, U2's drummer, Larry Mullen Jr., LOVED Ocean Rain. I've read a few interviews with him in which he gushes about the drumming by Pete on that album. Awesome.

This may be my favorite song on Ocean Rain. Except for the title track, of course. :)

  • U2 didnt establish shit.

  • Well they did Achtung Baby... Acutally Mullen should've learned from de Freitas.

  • yeall ill lear next time, thanks for the tip.

  • the 80's

    wot can i sae

  • this is gonna be a tough one on the current Ocean Rain tour....but i think Mac will pull it off...he is a genius!!! and gorgeous to boot.

  • man this is great, great music!! They came to Houston not long ago and i fucking missed them and i am still kicking myself!! from a Texas E&TB fan!!!!!

  • Great Band.. crap haircuts.!

  • whatever burns,burns eternally.

  • back in 48??? you mean 78?? - i mean he wasn't born til 59 hey.

  • Always one of my favorite bands of all time. Always hated Ians stupid hairdo, even back in 48 when it was stylish.

  • damn.....he's way out of tune!....it sounds darkly strange though....

  • this is one of my faves, but this performance isn't the greatest, it's a shame

  • In them days, Ian McCulloch came across as an excited innocent with wide eyes, and potential. Nowadays he's a potentially, cynical, laconic, done it all before has been. His saving grace is Will Sergeant. Together they are the equivalent of the Beatles survivors. Echo and the Bunnymen thrive. And I, for one, am glad.

  • I have Ocean Rain on vinyl! This is my favorite song!

  • the song is awesome . and It´s only a b side. But it´s a very good song

  • I love this man. He's gorgeous and his talent brights.I love his voice in the performance. This guys admire THE DOORS and they are as a consequence influenced by them but that's not bad at all. They shine on their own and they are able to make you tremble as well as feeling explosive emotions through your body.Ian I am in love with you....

  • Fantastic, but I prefer the studio version.

  • Macs always been a little tone deaf. Hes great in the studio..and sometimes live. Hes favorite singer seen Bunnymen more times than i can count. Hope he uses personal moniters next live show.

  • Nah, not tone deaf, just didn't really know how to control his voice. It changed in leaps and bounds from Crocodiles to the last album. If he'd had some vocal training, it would have made things easier for him. Really I'm a vocal teacher and I used to sing opera.

  • Love this ... some may think he's out of tune but I think it really adds to the performance. Thanks for posting this.

  • takes me back to college

  • ACE

  • love it love it love it!!!!! AWESOME!!!!!!

  • u2 owe these guys something, no?

  • ian's got a great mullet, doesn't he?

  • he does!

  • Ahhh.. a moment of bliss. Thank you!!! Beautiful!!

  • i think he sing horrible on this one

  • He sings better then ever actually. The more out of tone the better in this song. :)

  • Thanks you very much!!

  • this song rocks and is really hard to find....ROCK ON!!!!

  • another tune from ocean rain tops

  • Awesome song!

  • One of the best tunes ever ever ever!!!

  • Agreed! One of the best; album's not bad either.

  • holy bunny poop!

    Awesome!

Thank you thank you thank you!

    %^)
