You only cross by deeper areas with a bridge or, if you insist on crossing by foot, by wading over WIDE areas. In a spot like they crossed you're in danger from debris as well as water. The fact remains they tried crossing a river directly above a steep waterfall, which is dumb. Waterfalls are always prone to flashing
