It never occurred to me that Mary Wilson would ever sing a Gladys Knight cover. Their voices fall into a lot of the same register. FANTASTIC JOB, MARY! Such a big, strong voice, as well. This song suited her perfectly!! Maybe Mary doing Gladys would have been a better template to follow as opposed to Mary doing Diana covers!!..

@in2food .And she ain't SUPPOSED to be, my friend. I DO know what you're sayin. But it isn't 'fair' to make another artist 'Be' what the original did. They are 'not' them. And this, again, was a quick runthru to get a feel of what to do with it, and the stage and the costume as well. But given time, it may prove a gem. I'm sure that Glady was similar before she cornered what to Do with the song too. May be different if we heard 'her' demo that she listened to. But it's all good!

Here's living proof of Mary Wilson's true forte, the sexy, smokey R&B/Jazz soulful ballads. Berry ruin her confidence by insisting and drilling into her head she could not sing when his only intent was to keep her in back of Diana Ross. As a true business man he knew the group after Florence replacement could have never survive another, he knew that would have been the end of Diana Ross & The Supremes and Diana publicly was not ready nor groom for a solo career! This is great for her because it's in an alto's range (Gladys is a low alto, also). It sounds more natural for Mary's voice than many of the Supremes' songs, which were written for Diana's higher range.

If Mary Wilson did this type of music for her solo album I'm sure it would have made into the top 10. I PERSONALLY feel that Mary is more of a soul/R&B singer than pop. But i think the reason she went for a pop/disco solo album was because that was what she knew best at that time. But hey, there is still time of that album Mary, anytime you just wanna go to that recording studio, your fans will buy what ever comes out!

I truly loved all the Supremes......and, I sure love Flo, but, I have to confess......I have concluded that Mary has the best set of pipes out of the original trio.
