Remember the difference between "being" and "becoming", which is essential to Plato's philosophy and to this allegory. Reread the beginning of Timaeus and what comes immediately after this allegory in the Republic.
Holy crap! The cave allegory is NOT about TV or anything like that. Get acquainted with the basics of Plato's philosophy before making a video. The cave allegory is about rational thought and how the world that we live in is not as "real" as the world of the forms; only someone who uses reason can transcend the "divided line".
The cave=this world
Above-ground=the realm of the forms
Shadows=sense perceptions which are not analyzed by reason
This sounds like a comparison between those who are initiated in the Egyptian mystery school theology and those who live in darkness and labeled as profane.
Illumination is having your eyes opened to reality and those who stay in the cave, your normal people think they knw whats going on but all they can do is give names to the things they dont understand or are unable to see.
My friend, it is out of a very limited reflexion that you speak of television; Plato spoke of the public opinion, of this tendency to assert validity to impressions, to illusions and the sadness of the arrogance those men exhibit in proposing such things...
Plato spoke of the issues which are brought by the illusions of reality, indeed... it discredit subjectivty - giving importance to personnal impressions, ideas.
Plato's cave shows that people are eager to leave responsibilities and liabilities in the hands of 'trusted institutions' whose quest for profit and monopolization is a threat to the people who trust in them. Think about pharmaceutical medicine, it's a liberating thought that a natural supplement can cure you but the implication that your doctor is primarily serving his own interest destroys the illusion of safety causing a violent reaction.
