I'll probably get a lot of criticism for this, but here goes: I've always thought that though Amy Winehouse had many limitations– & affectations– as a singer, her creativity really thrives when performing live. Take this song, one of her best: on record, her high notes sound thin, but in this live performance, given her embellishments, improvisations, she displays such emotion & command of her voice. I wish she had a live record out– I'm betting that would exceed the artistry of her albums.

@Diogenes1730 "He takes the day": I have always understood it as someone "taking the day off of work" or blowing off responsibilities/playing hooky. She's essentially saying he dropped the ball, but she's grown and can handle the situation without him. "Blue shade" is color symbolism. Shade = hue or color. Blue is often associated with sadness/melancholy. So in her sadness that his "way" or decision caused, her tears dry on their own. I hope this helped!
