  • hey ive got one 4 sale maybe 151 iron duke in it with a 4 speed been under a cover for 9 years.

  • I can't wait to get my 87 Wagon going and whip some donuts in my favorite after a good rain hehehe

  • I want to put a POWERTEC I6 in one of these

  • That thing looks like its jacked up on 22's . LOL

  • MOTHER OF GOD I'd kill for an sx/4 can't find any in Ontario Canada! if you got one let me know!!!

  • @mostdishonorable they've all rotted away lol

  • @mostdishonorable ill sell you mine....its an 84 inline 6 with a 4.2L...ill sell it to you for 8 grand.

  • whats your mileage now?, and i know the car was built to go off road, but if its in that good of shape, you best baby it, somebody posted that the eagle isnt rare, the wagon isnt, and you can still find a few sx4s , the rare 1's are the good kept 1's. And you cant find any stick ones is because they were beat on by bad owners, and since they look so cool they appeal to kids, who buy, and destroy these collectable gems, i own a Mint 1982 sx4 + i just rebuilt a 84 wagon w/ 180k mi. to be my daily

  • Hm... y'know, I think it'd be kinda fun to build one of these up instead of the Jeep/Blazer/Bronco/Scout route everyone else takes. Originality, ftw.

  • AKA creampie?

  • this music blows...

  • I used to have a red 1981 AMC SX/4 with the 258. It ran like garbage because the previous owners didn't take care of it. However, I liked the car because it had personality. I wanted FUEL-INJECTION instead and got a Jeep Wrangler (superior 4x4 system over the Eagle) with the 4.0L and that rules over the crappy Carter BBD carb I had in that car. I miss that car but am thankful to God for it's other AMC inspired replacement: the Jeep Wrangler TJ Sport. Cool video.

  • lol thats such a ballin car

  • I hate it when ppl just take a car this rare and unique and just trash it u fail!

  • Car is so rare now you need to take better care than drive it like this,I can see if parts are easily available theyre not,Thanks to Lee Iaccocca who bulldozed all of the old spare parts when chrysler bought AMC.LEE your an Asshole!!!

  • but where are my manners lol, awesome eagle man! keep that thing alive! email me if you want to get rid of it!

  • the 4.0 was also retired along with the WJ grand cherokee in 04.

at least in the wrangler they used the tried and true (not to mention torquey) OHV 3.8, instead of that decrepid 3.7 mercedes derived boat anchor

  • 3.8 torquey? really? the 3.8 is a damn caravan motor that's more suited to parking lots.. doesn't belong under the hood of any jeep. but your right about one thing, the 3.7's suck.

  • seriously... the 3.8 is torquey... go take a grand caravan for a test drive (put on a ski mask if you feel the need) and ping the pedal.... make sure its a 3.3L, a 3.8L, or even the new 4.0L.... and while your givin er, remember, that thing weighs over 4000 lbs.... and thats if its not an AWD model...

  • I have driven more 3.8's than you can count, I actually work at a dodge dealer, but i'll admit that they are impressive in the vans. However, they really suck in the Jeeps. I notice in your name that you like AMC's, so do I!!! i have a 1977 jeep j-10 with the 360 V8, and i love it!!! That's a jeep engine! i ALso had a 1979 cj-5 with the inline 6 258, and it had plenty of power too! Hey, we may disagree on jeep engines, but we still love jeeps, so your all right in my book.

  • havent driven a 3.8 wrangler yet, so we may not even have to agree to disagree, lol.

awesome jeeps btw! i LOVE the j-series trucks, and who doesnt like CJ's ... i myself have an 85 J-10, with a 258 and a 4-spd... love that truck. and a 68 AMX with a 390 and a 4-spd... i'm looking to get a grand wag and a j-20 and build a crew cab. but in the meantime i was planning on getting an IH crew cab and slapping a diesel in it... show these "modern day" fools what a real truck is, lol.

  • I'd LOVE to have that AMX!!! I love those cars! you are so lucky! And it's funny you me ntioned diesel, i also have an '02 dodge diesel (5 speed of course) and have often thought about putting a diesel in my j-10! ENjoy that sweet car of yours, take care my friend.

  • i lied... its not mercedes derived... it is based off the 4.7, which i knew, but that was a clean sheet design from chrysler... it still blew ass. lol

  • umm yeah no, the 242 (4.0) debuted in 1987 actually. so they were still in buisness... barely. and it was retired in 06 along with the TJ wrangler platform... All to make way for the new bemouth of a wrangler... think i'm exagerating, put one side by side with a grand cherokee... at least 04 and older anyway... its barely smaller.

  • cool

  • cool i want one!

  • Your my kind of people, you have an AMC Eagle, what appears to be a Nova in the back and you listen to SOAD. Kick ass

  • That's my Chevelle.

  • @jdbart333 this car would eat a 87 nova ALIVE

  • if that a girl or guy?

  • pimp paint job

  • System of a down....classic.

  • take it easy with that car man it could be worth something.

  • 1. It wasn't trashed.

    2. Its a 4x4, they're built to be driven off-road and detroyed in glory.

    3. They aren't that rare.

    4. Gremlins and Pacers are destroyed alot for the sake of derbies, worry about them.

5.I could probably do this in my '75 Beetle which isn't even 4x4 plus it looks less bland and dosen't drain anyones pockets (Eagles get 20-16 mpg while bugs get 32-25 mpg).

  • Glad to know that.

  • Going off 1 foot dirt mounts is hardly destroying it. Your pacer may not be able to do it, but this is what the car was made for.

  • Comment removed

  • its a gremlin/hornet underneath still

    that said

    i love them

  • AMC's six for this model was a 258 (4.2L), not 242 as you list. If that car is clean it could be worth something to an AMC collector.

  • yeah you're right

the 242 was launched in 1989, after AMCs ceased production and was used until 2005

    used a Renault/Bendix fuel injection

the conrods and crankshaft out of the 258 are useful to Jeep owners (like myself) who have the 242

the 242 is further bored than the 258 but destroked.with these rods and crank it'll make the 242 Jeep a 4.5l (sorry don't know exactly in ci)

  • Cool, but that is NOT an 84 the SX/4 was only produced from 81 to 83. The music isn't to good, really lousy usic. Have you been to the AMC Eagle Nest

  • Pretty awesome, except for the music AND that its not an 84!

  • pretty cool! except for the music.
