Hmmm! Boy, have you got sound ideas. My one bag, that I use now, (I own several), is a 45 degree bag. Cost 28 dollars. I put a liner in it to increase the warmth for less bulk and weight. Haven't used a reflective surface yet, but I'm going shopping tomorrow for some reflective sun shade . Great idea over using mylar. I have used it before as a ground cloth and that made me adopt ear plugs when I go camping as it was so noisy. Thanks for these thoughts.
@slodeth5 Thanks for your kind words John! I couldn't agree more about the mylar... think I'd almost rather freeze than be driven to the brink of insanity by that horrid noise! lol. Congrats on the excellent buy on your bag btw... sounds like it really works well for ya! I'm glad you mentioned what your using... I've seen your style of cold weather camping in your videos, and it just proves that you can keep both weight and cost down and enjoy yourself to the fullest extent. Take good care...
One nice thing with synthetic bags I miss now with my down is being able to throw my wet shirt and socs I have wrung out into the foot end of my bag and let my body heat continue to dry them out . Worked great .
Great minds think alike ;-) I have been playing around with these very same window sun screen. Did you manage to find one that did not have a large gap for the rearview mirror?
@oregonmikes They must! lol. Yeah, that cheap dollar store one just happened to be the best option... it's thin and weighs virtually nothing (so rolls up perfectly in my sleeping pad), and doesn't have a cut-out for the mirror... it's one solid piece. I'm hoping they stock them again for the summer because I found so many different uses for it!
My wallet and I like Walmart solutions.
