sounds like bearing whine to me as well...I'd try to either find a rebuild kit or find a new trans. do you have any documentation of the swap? I'm thinking about doing this with my ae86, what things had to be done?
sounds like a ring and pinion issue in the rearend. could be incorrect pinion angle or just a bad setting for the clearances inside the rearend. does the car vibrate at any speeds?
Too much powa', it's killin the rear end. I dunno though I have a t50 that whines in 1,2,3 and 5. I know its old bearings.

No, it's coming from a bad bearings inside the gearbox. Some guy from NZ told me it's a common problem with 98/99 altezza's :(
