  • Wait a minute. The label says "mono", but this sound is definitely in stereo. It's amazing what beans in your ears can do to sound!

  • I remember this song as a kid. It's funny once you listen and grasp what is going on. But if you have beans in your ears, you won't get it.

  • What did you say?

  • I remember this song got airtime back in 1964/65. And no, I never put beans in my ears.

  • First time I've heard this fun song in Stereo! Thanks!

  • @wildbilltexas My too this is a very rare treat not even my deejay friend has rthis in stereo

  • This is one of the cutest and funnyest songs ever. I'm going to have this stuck in my head for the next week.

  • This was covered in the UK by Lonnie Donegan but it wasn't a hit.Its well worth a listen

  • Hahaha, I love this song! I'm going to click replay!

  • Thanks to this song my family calls me beans...I used to say beans in my ears when I was little

  • couldnt hear this song cause he has beans in his ears

  • My mother still has the LP for the Serendipity Singers. I loved hearing this song growing up.

  • Radio wont play political songs, so you have to "lay it between the lines" This is a protest song -- the president he must have beans in his ears... polititians all must have beans in their ears... A Korean, Vietnam, or any war you like protest song. Remember the Dixie Chicks getting hate for what they said, it was ten times worse in the 50s and 60s

  • Good God! BWAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! This was back in the day when you never knew what kind of goofball song would be next on the radio, remember? You'd be going home from work in the '59 Chevy, turn on the radio and WTF? Somebody would be singing about "OOO EEE OO AH AH TING TANG WALLA WALLA BING BANG"... or "IT WAS A ONE-EYED, ONE-HORNED FLYIN PURPLE PEOPLE EATER", or "MAY THE BIRD OF PARADISE FLY UP YOUR NOSE". It was all simply to LAUGH AT. It was REAL AMERICA, and it was GOOD TIMES.
  • I haven't heard this since I was 2nd grade! We sang it in music class. As I write this, I've laughed so hard, my tummy hurts!

  • WARNING: Don't put beans in your ears!!!!

    Put them in your nose.

    ;-)

  • @KQ6WQ Yup! My friend Kimmy had to go to the emergeny room for that one! The yellow crayon was another visit. . .. .

  • @KQ6WQ My sister got beans stuck in her nose when she was two years old and had to got to the emergency room cause one got stuck lol

  • @KQ6WQ u r a fucking idiot

  • @GameTech500 RE: u r a f***ing idiot

    GameTech500, How old are you 12, 13, 14?

This is the kind of lame comment made by a child who wants to act big, grow up.

  • @KQ6WQ dude u got to learn something u pathetic bastard like seriously i was joking around jackass like really getting a fucking life faggot

  • I Remember My Mother Bought Me The 45, and a few days later they pulled the song off the radio, because kids were actually putting beans in their ears! I Don't Care,I Still Remember,And Love That Song! A Great Memory!

  • @tinastingley

Your right the song was briefly banned, probably in Boston, where everything got banned in the 60s,

but it came back to chart very well for a kids folk song, by an unknown group. Maybe kids grew tired and stop putting beans in their ears and listening to the song.

  • This song was banned in Canada shortly after its release because the kids were actually doing this to themselves.

  • I'm sorry, I can't hear you. I have a banana in my ear!

  • @hopefloats57 Oh goodness, I'm DYING from LAUGHING!

  • My mother used to sing this when I was little, in the '60s. Until I saw this I thought she had made it up. I never knew there really was a song!

  • think you could post the flip side? should be the song "sailin' away"

can't seem to find it anywhere !

    thanks !

  • totally ridiculous and silly... before music began to get "serious"...

  • now this is REAL music !

  • Just played it for my grandson who didn't believe there was such a song

  • I put beans in my ears because of this song, would have never thought of it with out it... It was one of my best childhood memories

  • I haven't heard this in years... not since Dr Demento got pulled from the local station.

  • so damn catchy the problem is not the beans in our ears its this song stuck in our heads

  • Randomly stupid shit that's some how hilarious.

  • OMG!! I haven't heard this in sooooo many years, I had begun to believe that I had perhaps dreamed the song up... Thanks so much for posting!!!

  • I was thirteen when this song came out and and of course, like any thirteen year old boy, I had to try it. My poor mother had to help dig them out. Now I understand why they say you shouldn't do it but to be honest, I never would have thought of it if not for this stupid song.

  • Pff! I haven't heard this since my cousin played an old tape with the song. XD

  • this si so funny i just heard it for the first time today on true oldies just had to see if it was here.

  • whats was the song about, i couldnt hear... man i should really get these dam beans out of my ears.

  • Dave here. One of my late, lamented father's favorite sayings was, "Don't put peas in the baby's ears," meaning, don't say something around someone if you don't want them to pick up the suggestion when their doing so would have an undesirable result, an indirect reference to the contrariness of children who'll do the opposite of what they're told, i.e., "don't put peas in the baby's ears." (One of the hardest things to undo.)

  • best song ever! just had dinner with one of the singers of this last night :D haha.

  • @kiboonimichita You are so very lucky.

  • bringing back childhood memories!

  • I liked the serindepidy singers, old fashioned FUN music, that didnt conern itself with social issues in the least, like most folk music back then did.

  • Oh. My. God. I haven't heard this song in DECADES. Wow.

  • I am going to teach this to my kids. This song is fabulous.

  • I putted the beans in my ear

  • I heard this on BBC Radio 2 as well on Paul O'Grady

  • Heard it too... How times have moved on (sadly) . God.. ..just imagine what the PC brigade would have to say about a song talking about putting beans in your ears! The elf and safety brigade would have a field day too.

  • hellyeah me to!

  • I heard this on BBC Radio 2 yesterday :D

  • omgg samee!!

  • I remember my dad playing this when I was younger... *lost in good memories*

  • I remember this from a TV-advertised album called "Monster Mash" in the 1970s. What a weird song. Peace.

  • Wow, great childhood memories. This was on a great compilation album called Looney Tunes, which I still haven't forgiven my mom for discarding.

  • my new motto is "i cnt hear the teacher with beans in my ears" LMAO <3 this video

  • Thank you for posting this! My mother saying "That's nice, just don't put beans in your ears" was a running joke the whole time I was growing up. Whenever we kids asked anything silly, or were being annoying, that was the answer we'd get!

  • I remember this 45 well! I believe it came free inside a bag of potato chips in the early 60's

  • Okay, show of hands, how many who are old enough to have heard this on the radio when you were kids, put beans in your ears, or know someone who did?

  • @Carus0e This was big on the radio (Miami, WQAM) around 1964 or so....

  • @eoj2495 1964, when I was ten years old, KXOK in St Louis played it.. My brother heard this song and put a popcorn seed (we didn't have any dry beans at the time) in his ear and had to go to the doctor and have it removed. They stopped playing the song after a couple weeks due to complaints from mothers of stupid kids like him.

  • @Carus0e

Both hands up in the air here.

  • @Carus0e sadly im old enough----- wish i wasnt tho---along with put you r finger in your ear and go ting a ling a lou

  • @Carus0e Yes. I'll admit to hearing it first hand but never bought it...too young.

  • @Carus0e Actually have a vivid memory about this song- one of my best neighborhood friends brought it up one day- and sang it- and then I heard it on the radio quite a bit- I even learned the word "serendipitous' because of it-

    I was 10.

    My new theme song!

Thank you for this wonderful channel!

  • This song is worse than Burl Ives' Goober Peas.

  • Nice job. What kinda turntable and preamp are you using, and what did you use to post-process the audio (to remove clicks)?

  • Normally I use Goldwave quite a bit.

  • Cool deal. I'm impressed by the absence of groove-wear-related distortion. What kind of turntable/cartridge/stylus do you have?

  • hahahahahahaaa i love this song i randomly heard it at a intermission at a play
