He is a great dancer no doubt, but he needs to tone down to make the couple rise higher and stronger....it's hard to explain what I mean....but it would be more beautiful if he would tone down instead of standing out so much in comparison to her....But all said, it's easy to critic...but alot harder to perform....I admire them both very much...Best of luck to them...

Ballroom dancing is a "partnership" where the man is the frame (leader) and the woman the picture (focus of dance not just follower). The man, regardless of his level versus the woman, provides the frame in which the partnership functions. When my lady shines I know we did well, she lets me know otherwise :). Happy woman makes for a long happy partnership and wonderful dancing.

they bought me with this routine and since then I'm their huge fan ... probablly the best rumba routine ever and definitely best man-women relationship ...

melia has her own style, thats why she is special and they look great together! she is not on level like joanna, anna or yulia, beata but we should appreciate her, she is completely different and special on her way! its good to be unique!
We actually discussed this with a pro judge/coach. I pointed out how odd it is watching Sergey and Melia's connection that it really looks it has a very very strong push and pull mentality, but it is not. The pro judge agreed with me.
just to say Im in no way still going to be wooting and wow Im a melia fan, just saying I like how she's dancing here, extremely better than her previous year at WSS or her normal competition performance. What Melia lacks is technique but what she does have is well she's a great actor.
but i like other couples (like joanna, yulia) too, they all great have a great own style. the only couple in final that i don't like are the stokkebroes. they have a perfect technique but for me that's not the most important thing.. eugene and maria should be in the finals instead of the stokkebroes for me:)
I think melia is better than most people think! first i didn't like her dancing but i gonna like her more and more:) for some people technique is most important thing, but for me it's a combination of technique and telling a story with your heart. that's why i like them very much!

can't stand how ignorant you are. maybe you should try to read: Latin from Ruud Vermeij. he explains it all clearly. technique is what figures are performed.. stretched legs hip actions etc. what is generally more important is HOW it is performed. and this style and execution looks good and it works for them so what is the problem. Ton Greeten says this aswell.. you can do it my way, which can be good, and you can do it your own way, which can be good as well.
in addition to my last post. take a practice routine. one could perform it just like a practice routine. but a couple like this takes it to the next lvl and make something artlike from it. a real show.
It's not about style. At the level they are in, the technique should be the basic for them. Based on that each professional can have their own style. It is very shameful that a lot of people comments about her techniques. If techniques are not that important, why so many dancers spend so much time and efforts to improve their techniques. Don't you think it is unfair someone who is born with charisma beats a lot of dancers whom have superior techniques?
Personality only gets you so far.. One day shes gonna have to learn about the latin dances properly and what they need to reach the top. She will never reach the top if she carrys on like this.

Yulia and Ricardo will be the next in line for being champion when Joanna and michael retire. I don't think anyone will beat Joanna and michael at the moment but when they retire yulia will be champion. In most of her videos, she has either really long or baggy dresses or disgustingly different coloured dresses to make her stand out and hide the fact she has no hip action. Literally in every video ive seen she doesnt use her hips. Shes crap shouldnt be in the finals.
long answer- costumes are not only for looks or standing out. they are also emphasising your strong qualities, or as you stated hiding qualities or rather the lack thereoff. but, look at her footwork and body it is correct.
