I worked 3 days for Pets Unlimited and after being lied to about where the puppies came from I quit and have been boycotting them here in Nova Scotia. Peeple should never ever buy a puppy or a kitty from a pet store! Only from animal rescue shelters. Shame on these businesses who do that, all for the sake of saving a buck! I hope they all rot in hell, alone with the owners of puppy mills
This is terrible. These poor animals deserve homes that actually care about them. And guess what? When kids get bunnies for easter, kitties and puppies for christmas, usually the parents get sick of the animal and bring it to a 'shelter'. 90% of the animals die.... This is just terrible.
And-- 20 DISLIKES! REALLY! I highly encourage you to share this video with family and friends, and give this video a thumbs up. LETS MAKE AN AMIMAL CRUELTY-FREE WORLD!!
We bought our dog at Petland. When we got her home. She was very sick puppy. My mom had to hand feed her. Until she ate on her own. Now, she's 5 years old. Loves her mommy. (Me) Her name is Leia. The store, we got her at. Is now closed like two years ago. We didn't know at the time. We learn the hard way. But, We're happy to have her. She's a Scnoodle. (She looks more like mini schnauzer) That's what the pet employee told us. When, they let us see her in those cubic room. (That has opening.)
I hate how everyone, is allways like "Dont buy Breeders dogs" "If you stop buying them they cant sell them" 1. These dogs all deserve homes.. most of the time, these dogs are the best way to go. All dogs came from breeders.. in the first place if you did you reasearch and then were put into the hands of horrible people. The pound is an exact match up of a puppy mill.. except PETAfied. why cant we just fix this a different way.. we dont have to get rid of Breeders to get rid of puppy mills.
@vivienleigh1097 The difference between a shelter and a pet store is that if you rescue from a shelter, you are not encouraging bad breeding habits. When you "save" these puppies from a pet store, you give them a lot of money, & free up space for a new puppy to be bred in these conditions. You are encouraging them to breed these dogs which are not OFA or CERF certified, have no temperament guarantee & are typically unhealthy.
Go to a shelter or an ethical breeder. no puppy mill and pet stores.
Petland Canada has a organization called Pets For Life, which is a rescue foundation and is in all of their stores. There's a farm for the dogs to get rehabilitated and socialized before being brought to the store. They are also SELLING all of their dogs and not getting any more puppies so the stores can do adopt-a-thons with rescue foundations.
There are a lot of bad pet stores, no doubt about that. There are also a lot of good ones. Don't condemn them all because of the bad ones. I work for Petland Canada and everyday I go above and beyond for all the animal companions in my store. I go to work everyday and try my damnedest to show all that come through those doors that our pet store does care, that I care.
@theamazinglindsay I don't know where you live or your petland expectations, because of the fact that they are owned by different people. But I work at petland and they come out A LOT to play. People want to see them alot, and we have areas where they play. Plus, if there are puppies that weren't played with, we take them for walks around the store. We can't walk them outside. They are too late and are not vaccinated yet. They have all their puppy shots, just not the rabies vaccine
isnt petland shut down already? one of the workers had the manager holding two dead soaking wet bunnies and she was grinning and said on her facebook page she drowned them. it was sad :( but i caused many news reports and it said they shut down because of that and the puppy mills
5 stars for video only -1000000 for petland just hope you know I am lookin for. Westies and you, petland, will NEVER EVER get a cusotmer out of me or any of my animal loving friends!!! So stick that in your juicebox!!!!!
theres a petland by me .. what i dont get is all there puppies were mutts they had 3 diffrent kinds of breeds in them. i thought puppymills just breed purebred?
This is so true....we went to a petland near where we were at the moment and saw 3 pure breed vizulas we took out one of them who looked sad and it was coughing and sneezing and they said they'll give it medicine but they NEVER did.....If people don't buy from these puppymills they will run out of business. People will rescue dogs from there and give them proper health care.....If you buy them then YOU have to deal with all the major problems they have.
! I understand not all petstores are bad but those puppies in petland are in plastic/glass cages i bet they dont get to go out side at all & all they have all day is some snotty noised kid hitting on the glass or what not . Im only 15 & i really wanna help and stop all this but i just dont know how & their isent a petland anywhere near me i live in a little bitty town.
I bought my dog from a Petland here in New Mexico and there are so many things wrong with him, now finding all this stuff out about them buying puppies from pet mills makes me happy knowing that now he is being taken care of and not having to be locked in a little cage with who knows how many other dogs.. this is so sad!
OK I get the puppy mill thing I have reported many, but not all pet stores are evil some do actually care about there animals. yes the puppy mills need to stop and care needs to improve but maybe we should be putting in bylaws that regulate that care instead of discriminating and assuming no pet store cares, or should have any animals at all.
@chriscicoria How about it's employees? I'm a supservisor in a Canadian petland as I was laid off at my mechanic apprenticeship. I go above and beyond for those awesome animals because I also own cats, dogs, a snake and fish. I treat them as my own, and hang out with them in the store as I educate guests on animal care. I love doing this, it's great bonding time for me and them. I name them, which is kinda dumb, because when they eventually go home, I'm attatched to them. Am I a bad person? Hmm
@XJproto It 's nice that you care about the animals in your shop but what about their parents? And what do you say when customers ask where they come from? By encouraging people to buy there or being less than honest about their origin and the health risks of buying poorly bred pets, then no matter how kind you are to some individual pups you're helping to perpetuate the problem. I do understand in this economy it is hard to find a job. But I would seriously be searching for another one.
I've worked with Petland for the last 4 years, and I am still there. I'm not sure what goes down in the USA when it comes to puppy mills... but I'm from Canada. We have different standards, as well as owners. I have met breeders of our animals, and they are the nicest people ever! I've been on tours of their homes. Petland Canada does not use puppy mills. Again, I'm not sure about the states... but I can guarantee Canadian Petlands are a wonderful place.
@alananicole55 Reputable breeders care about where their puppies go. They want to be an active part in finding that pup So no, they wouldn't give their puppies to pet stores to sell to people. Therefore, no, Petland Canada is NOT a good place and the breeders who sell their puppies to you are NOT reputable.
Petland is the front window for puppy mills. They don't care b/c they are charging $1500 for a mix that they call "designer". People buying pet store dogs are fueling the fire. THEY WON'T KEEP BREEDING 'EM IF THEY AREN'T SELLING! Supply and demand. Yorkie-poos, puggles? Please. Just because it is a *insert breed here*- POO" doesn't make it better than any other mixed breed waiting on death row for a home. Go to Petfinder. Thousands of dogs are on death row waiting.
@tortchclaw There are MILLIONS of dogs in the world today. BYBs are people that add to that just to get money! GOOD breeders spend around $10,000 per litter of puppies. I'll make sure never to buy from you!
2nd and then the adoption process.. im not even going to go there i tired that many times they tell me i have another breed and that if i am a student i can't adopt dog.. so if i want a dog where do i go???? do i Wait for years ? it is ridiculously. i dont support puppy mill but i wish the adoption process is made easier or more considerate so people dont have to turn to pet stores~ because sometimes buyers really have no OPTIONS
puppy mills is inhumane but i think there is a reason y ppl buy from pet store- saddly
1) after hrs of researches with reputable breeder form akc sites~ they tell u they dont have a puppy or sometimes dont return calls :( or sometimes u fail their tests cuz u have another dog breed and i live in a bought apartment in Manhattan nyc in a really good neighbourhood - of course i dont have a back yard -__- but i can excise him near by places for dogs but dose this mean no one can get a dog at nyc?
I worked here when I was young. I asked repeatedly for documentation from real breeders once I saw how they arrived. They continously showed me forged documents and brought in stand-ins for breeders. I was naiive but honestly the people going in there were as uneducated as I was. They present a legal front and have plenty of money to pull the wool over your eyes. Contact professional breeders and cut off these stores where they breath, at their wallets. I left them once I learned, you can too
Hi...I'm Richard and you are ignorant. There is a difference between animals and people and there are people who live in much worse conditions than you just described. Ooooh, please don't get carried away just yet. I think there is no difference between dogs, bugs, trees and bacteria. You are the one who is selective in who you protect. I will step over the line and say...You are an Idiot. All life should be respected dog, bird, insect or plant. You are blinded by ignorance.
people have to be aware that petland us and petland canada are very very different.. diff rules, diff regulations and petland canada is ran very different. i have to honestly say ive never heard of a CAN petland using mills.
@NinjaHotel I agree. It is often a kind of roundabout business. At least the ASPCA works to increase awareness and promote adoption rather than PETA who hates pets as much as puppymillers do
We have so many puppy farms in Ireland it is sick, I have taken pups in my self from people who got them from puppy farms when they were so sick and could not pay for the vets.I would love to see all puppy farms stop
Liars who work at the store! I'll never support any pet store ever again and puppy mills never ever. I'm going to be buying my dog supplies at the HSUS store and Humane Choice dog food at Whole Foods Market by HSUS.
SICK, DISHONEST, and EXTREMELY disgusting people out there. Yeah right that lying girl that said that they're like the best breeders in the country. My ass!
i think the gas chamber from WWII would be a perfect use for ppl wo have a puppy mill or work with them..
seriously, i dont even think that, humanly, i ll feel that i do something wrong.. PPl like that arent humans and are not on any level of repect for their lives.
bastards! i wish someone did that to you and then took away ur children! disgusting ....dont even have a word for ppl like that..arghh!
Not only their dogs but their rodents too. They take baby rabbits and guinea pigs away from their mums far too early. I was seeing the hamsters and one was beat up and bloody and I showed it to a worker there and all they did was take it out for five minutes then put it back in when it was obviously being bullied by the others.
Why are these puppy mills not being closed down? This is applorable to treat animals this way. How would these people like It? I cannot believe that these places are being allowed to stay in operation.Gail
at OLATHE KS petland thay have all of the birds mixed intogather BAD BAD BAD and the olathe duse not puppey mills thay byed dog's from my mother and she had one birdding dog and one dad dog and that was it
why can't puppy mills just be BANNED? oh yea, cuz some people believe business and money is WAY more important. This makes me sick. Those poor puppies :(
For the record, I am against puppy mills. However, I work at an independently owned pet store and I get really tired of people assuming that we get our puppies from puppy mills. We have seperate breeders for seperate breeds. We have all the info on the breeders, and we do not receive commission. While the dogs are at our store, we love them like our own and we ONLY sell them to people who we think would provide a good home. Just think twice before judging a small business that has worked hard.
Hmmmm tired of answering a much needed question? If you have nothing to hide.. you shouldn't deny prospective owners answers. Learn to spell while you are at it.. seperate=separate?
@juno124 No breeder worth a penny would sell a dog to a pet shop: good, reputable breeders want to know where their dogs end up, offer health guarantees to the buyers, make sure the dog is returned directly to them is ever the buyer cannot keep it for any reason and, most of all, screen the homes the dogs will go to with care. A reputable breeder usually will have a waiting list of people wanting to get dogs from them, so no reason to unload unsold puppy to a pet store.
@daiyumn Can pretty much guarantee that if you checked the bloodlines, your "purebred" that you likely paid a lot for is a mix from a mill. I work as a groomer and people get told puppies are a breed and when they grow up their appearance (not to mention all kinds of health problems) tells another story. Nothing wrong with "mutts" or non conformational breeds, but if they're charging for a purebred, they need to have official papers, not papers that the Petland has printed off themselves.
sad but true ive worked behind scenes in the stores that BUY these puppies... ive seen the vans herd the stories from the breeders that bring the puppy mill puppies....hot vans, long drives, filthy cages.... sad but true... please go to the pound or humane society to get your puppies we need to try to make this market non existent! THIS WONT KEEP HAPPENING IF YOU DON'T BUY THEM!
My dog, Libby, came from Petland. When we bought her she was diagnosed with Kennel Cough, it went untreated the entire time she was there and now, she has long term breathing problems. THANKS ASSHOLES!!! Also, when she was 7, she was diagnosed with a very rare, very life threatening disease called BULLOUS PEMPHIGOID and almost DIED! My dad went back to the store and told them to check where their dogs come from so this doesn't happen to any other dogs. What did they do? NOTHING.
As a future REPUTABLE breeder of Pembrokes, I am appalled by the public's lack of knowledge of what makes a good breeder. Good breeders breed only to better the breed, never for profit. It is a costly hobby with extensive genetic tests prior to breeding and heavy work in the show ring to produce champion after champion. A good breeder is all this, a great one makes you sign a contract stating that you will give the puppy back at any age if at any point you cannot keep it.
They should All be shut down !! Im in UK & if people want dogs theres so many our sanctarys are full at brsting point. Pedigrees, puppys, x breeds.
Maybe its US the consumer that should 'THINK' and STOP buying from these people. After all they wont carry on breeding if theres no-one buying to make it financially viable & so lucrative
I went to the pet land store in west palm beach Florida and I was DISGUSTED with what I saw! the CUSTOMER SERVICE was TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Me and my mom played with a min pin when we wanted to give him back no one would listen to us! my mom was like umm excuse me excuse me! no one answered and we waited like eight minutes to give the damm puppy back! =(
I have a petland across the street from me and I hate the place.I went in there once to find a food dish that would workout for me and I almost cried. There are buckets of hamsters with open tops so that kids can cram their hands in there and play with them and they are so scared. The dogs in cages on the wall are terrified. Its an aquarium/ petstore so its very humid in there and everything smells horrible. Why are these places getting away with this. Its cruel.
its unfortunate some petlands agree with this. however it would all stop if the government actually did something about it. lets say, life in prison? some people are consumed by greed which is really pathetic, but i'm sure if they became illegal there would be way less situations like this. Europe is a good place to admire.
Its not just dogs petland is awfull i have researched after buying a hedgehog when I talked to them the day befroe buying they said it was a girl and for 120 then the next day charged me 40 dollers more and ended up it was a boy the pets they sell usually haave problems with joints and health. aswell as animal abuse towards ferretts where they smeel awful to many in one cage and all the animals are always touched wich make them have awful temperments AND FOR EVERY ANIMAL they getcomision

Stephanie Shane doesn't even work for the HSUS. I've called there and asked to talk to her and they said, "Who?"
Also, the HSUS has their own agenda for busting these "puppy mills".
They don't take personal tips and will only bust a mill when they can get the proper media coverage.
Not saying Petland is a good place, they probably do really sell puppy mill pups, but they are a major business, and what better way to get media attention than to attack a major business.
ADOPT ADOPT ADOPT! The only ppl that should EVER ve allowed to breed thier dogs are members of the UKC and AKC, so they can reserve the breeds, not over populate them!
SOme people can be such DICKHEADS about dogs. (puppies too) i wish i can beat the SHIT out of them. I loved dogs all my life i have 3 and i love them soooooo much. Both my parents are joined in the protest about puppy mills and well my whole family and petland just wont listen

The HSUS is currently under investigation for fraud, & have been charged in the past starting in 2007 when the Attorney General filed a case with the Supreme Court. A tiny percentage of donations actually help animals as the rest goes in to salaries, lawyers, & filing fake law suits against businesses. Out of the thousands of claims HSUS had against Petland only 30 were real & 29 of those were thrown out 3 months ago. HSUS makes great videos but has NO document proof to back up their claims.
That is a LIE!!!! Petland are heartless and could careless as long as they are making money and ripping off uneducated people... They also buy from Lambrier which is the largest co-op of puppy mill breeders... I used to work at one until i seen the way puppies are not in good health and they haul them around in box trucks like U-Hauls and such... I was not about to support it at all by being a worker for thier heartless tatics and money hungry selves....
petland sells their dogs for over $1,000 and what do the dogs/babies get nothing and their rolling around in their crap while petland just gets all the money. if you truly wanna help dogs and saving join them and sign a petition and help, go even futher and visit the humane society check out their dogs and ask questions.
How can people be so cruel? These poor babies are dying, being neglected, going through abuse. Why would anyone do this to a poor puppy? In my mind, it is the same as abusing a baby. They may not be human, but they are babies none the less. Petland needs to be shut down along with all the other pet stores who buy from puppy mills. The puppy mills all need to be blown up so it can't happen again. Please help these poor puppies, they don't stand a chance if we don't do something.
hears what i'm going to do when i'm 14 (that's when i can get a puppy)
i am going to buy a puppy form petland SO I CAN SAVE HIM/HER and if she's sick I will use that as proof but after i buy i will take out my laptop and say every one pet land has a dirty little secret that they are NOT telling you guys... and i will show them this video and explain my experience with my puppy and about puppy mills even if i have 2 explain it to a five year old! oh and i want a puppy any way =)
Even though i don't have a dog i hate puppy mills i myself would reccomend a breeder i had 3 dogs myself from breeders DO NOT buy from puppy mills. THEY ARE EVIL
Buying a dog from petland is not rescuing it. The only way to shut down the cycle is to do it the same way all business close. Stop creating the demand! Make sure you and no one else you know never buys a puppy! Rescue or buy from a reputable breeder, they will want to meet you, and will allow you to see the whole litter and the parents.
@GoingForBroken i am a backyard breeder for rabbits. They are very cute animals, we take extreme good care to them, and make sure they are not diseased or harmed in any way, thank you very much. Puppy mills are just horrifying, as bad as hell. But most backyard breeders are a reliable source for pets.
honestly you are helping by not buying these tell the people buyying the puppies were they are from no matter what the pet shop owners say they are ow from breeders breeders will NOT under any cercumstances sell them to a pet shop it will help do not buy them because you feel sorry for them because its makes it so much worse by not buying it the store ring the owners asking for a refund so the owneers do and then later the dogs are traced to the mills were they are rescued from that Hell life
i don't think we have a Petland around here but we do have a place called Harp's. i DO BELIEVE they get theire puppies from a mill even tho they say they don't.
i just brought home a wee Chi who is a survivor from a mill in kentucky in December. she's doing just great.a wee snugglebug........
yo wheres there phone number? I'll give em something to broadcast about! I am SICK of these money hungry liars! I didn't believe CRAP that jacked up owner said! Just give me the # and I will call right now!!!!!!!!!!!
Why in the world don't they shut down the petland's across state , i mean they can right? and really who could people treat dogs like that i hav 3 chihuahuas and one of them (lila) is on my lap right now and she is the sweetes thing.
OMG! i know someone who got a dog from there and when they saw this they nearly puked.... her dog is a good dog but it did have a lot of medical issues exspecialy with her teeth etc etc.... this needs to be stoped!
i used to work at pet store in NH and most of our puppies came from hannah's online puppy auction (that way the store could not get traced back to the mills because they weren't buying directly from the mills because they had almost got shut down years before for that) also even if you are a heartless person and don't care about the suffering of the dogs in the mills pet stores are a huge rip off they would buy the puppies at only auctions for $40-$80 and sell them anywhere from $1500-$3000
I'm COMPLETELY AGAINST puppy mills. My mom rescued a little toy poodle about 13 yrs ago, and the damage done to our "Tate" is irreversible, no matter how much love we give him. But how do we RESCUE these pups from the mills w/out inadvertenly supporting these mills? You still have to PAY for attempting to "rescue" a poor little puppy. It's a Catch 22. HOW DO WE SHUT DOWN THE PUPPY MILLS? As far as Petland goes, they're literally creating a profit cycle by supporting these mills for PM owners.
True that, It's like some kind of cycle, if you buy from those stores/places like petland you are supportin them, and they'll keep buying puppies from those nasty puppy mills, and the puppy mills will keep breeding. That's a really nasty business. I have 2 dogs, and I am trying to get my female spayed, because she had puppies a month ago. I'll make sure those puppies will go to a good home. And no more puppies from my dogs. I love my dogs and i would hate it if they would of ended up in those
I have two mutts. I rescued one from a dirty home & poor conditions at 5 wks. They were give aways & I asked them to keep him until he was 6 wks old (minimum litter time). They agreed but gave the rest of his litter away early so I went & got him. Wish I could have taken more. This wk, I am bringing home a rescue dog. A 4/5 mo puppy who when found was almost dead. I can hardly wait to get him home. How can anyone be so cruel to such wonderful pets?
I don't get why the USDA doesn't shut these places down if they have been sited for such cruel conditions. Same goes for those factory farms that the USDA is supposed to monitor yet does nothing when they are clearly engage in inhumane activities.
Stop buying dogs from Petstores, actually dont by any animal at petstores... you know where they come from and still u support those bastards that make money out of putting animals in little cages and without basic needings like water and food and a properly clean place to live.. etc,.... Why cant u adopt a dog at a local Animal Shelter, its for a good cause and in that way you dont support those people that make money out of animal cruelty. I wish it could stop.. please :(
breaks my heart to hear, see and know this. Just go to a local animal shelter and adopt a dog, dont buy it from pet stores because you know where those dogs and puppies come from. I wish i could put all those owners of puppy mills and put them in a cage and treat them the way they treat animals so they can feel how those poor animals feel.. I wish it could stop. please :( After all i dont know how people actually can put any animal in a cage.. you just take away there freedom!!! Basterds
their employees make comission on selling animals, so you have to keep up the sales to remain a favored worker or they can fire you. I don't think they would refuse a sale cause I think they're greedy, commission on selling them seems un-ethical, and I'm not convinced when they say they don't use filthy puppy-mills
Dressage-Freak is such a liar. Petland is on the news all the time for selling puppy mill dogs! Did you even pay attention to the video and the rescue people speaking while saving the animals???
DressageFreak I bought a puppy from petland, She HAD parvo, not past tense, I brought her home and she HAD it.
Don't clown your bullshit about dog's "rendered healthy with no possible health issues"
A week after she was bought, I went to petland and asked for the 'breeder' she came from's info, I called her asked if I could come and buy a puppy she said yes, I went out there, Absolutely repulsing. If I wasn't so in love, I would bring my dog back.
i bought i pedigree retriever it is retard i can pay the bill this retriever needs the vet i brought her to after i bought her said she was find... she eats her poo has a bent ear and is aggersive chew any and every thingi had 2 other retriever i had raised for 10 years never had any of the above problems she is now 9 mon. old what can i do ....
why dont they just shut down the mills? that would be the smarter thing to do than shutting down petland.. you guys are idiots.. if you stop petland there is still going to be mills.. then even more dogs will not be saved because they are not getting purchase.. your hurting the problem not helping it. R.E.T.A.R.D.S!
I just got a Bichon Frise with papers for free. The breeders are very good with their dogs. They only had two dogs that bred twice their whole lives. Both dogs are now fixed and neither one was used just to make a profit. I got DJ because he was the last puppy and he needed a home so they just gave him to me. He is perfectly happy and healthy and he came from a loving home where they were genuinely sad to see him go. More breeders need to be like this.
This is why I do not like to shop at mass commercial pet stores. Just buying from them is allowing them to continue with cruelty to animals. Most mass pet stores do not even train their employees to clean cages efficiently and you end up taking home animals that die young. Buy local. Many of my local pet stores get animals that would be put down in the shelter if they stayed any longer and use the outdoor enclosures that go around their entire store, as well as featuring fliers of oops babies.
reply to dressagefreak that is an employee of Petland...Unless you personally visited the facilities where the puppies come from then you cant say they are not from a puppymill. A health warranty is only as good as the paper it is written on! That does not clear it from being born in a mill. You promote mills by selling puppies, only GOOD breeders CARE about where their puppies go! I could never send any of my dogs off somewhere to be sold to a stranger :( Get a real job!
Petsmart in Utah only deals with rescue animals I know this because one I have worked there and two I have fostered amimals for them that they have rescued from shelters when the animals time has ran out at the shelter. If you wand a dog then you should always adopt from a shelter or rescue or if you do get a dog from a breeder make sure you go to their house to make sure they are not running a puppy mill and get the records of how many times they have breed the dog.
Ok so this is what I know. Pet stores get their puppies from brokers and the brokers get their puppies from puppy mills that is a proven fact. I think if you want a dog either do what cougarbait731 suggested and go to a shelter or a rescue I do know that Petsmarts animals are from rescues because I have fostered a few cats and dogs for them, second buy a dog from a breeder one that will let you go to there house so you know that they are not running a puppy mill.
I come from a family that breeds dogs. My grandma did and now my mom does (golden retrievers). So I have been quite involved in the whole process as well.
A responsible breeder breeds to better that breed. They do testing on the parents for possible problems with hips, eyes, heart, or any other breed specific genetic disorder. And if they don't get positive results they don't bred.
They spend money on dog shows and obedience/agility/hunting training and trials to earn titles.
It's also illegal for pet stores in my country to sell dogs and cats.
You always have to get them directly from the breeder, the former owner or a rescue shelter. That way you always know where the dog comes from and additionally there is no way to create a demand from one source so big that puppy mills could exist.
There's too many greedy bastards that want to make money more than anything else in their retarded lives. We must put this to the end! I'm making a petition on Facebook ^^ save teh animals!! FREEDOM!
i WORK at a petland & first the petland i work at does NOT get puppies from puppy mills. ALL the puppies must have their 1st shots BEFORE they even come in the store. 2nd they all come in HEALTHY. we have a health warranty so obviously puppy mill puppies can't be under a health warranty. the OWNERS bring the puppies in & they are not for sale until WE send them to the vet & are rendered healthy with no possible health issues. before they are for sale theyre here for atleast a week to settle in
but how do you really know they aren't from places like these? Maybe the sick ones aren't brought into petland and you don't know the truth behind the sellers who come in?
I applied at one, and Petland employees make commision off the animals they sell, and if they don't keep it up they get canned. Commision on selling animals, sick. So then I asked If sale can be refused to ppl who don't appear responsible pet owners, she said yes but maybe she didn't like that question, dont believe petland
No need to investigate. They all come from puppy mills. No reputable breeder would ever sell a puppy to a pet store. Ban both the stores and the mills.
there is a problem with your logic. If people can't get their dogs legally from a regulated and taxed business they will simply get them from the black market.
Millions of people buy millions of dogs. Owners with 2 or 3 dogs simply can't keep up with the demand.
Better to have sales above the board, regulated and taxed than all pet stores and kennels out of business.

The pound is an exact match up of a puppy mill.. except PETAfied. why cant we just fix this a different way.. we dont have to get rid of Breeders to get rid of puppy mills.
vivienleigh1097 4 months ago
@vivienleigh1097 The difference between a shelter and a pet store is that if you rescue from a shelter, you are not encouraging bad breeding habits. When you "save" these puppies from a pet store, you give them a lot of money, & free up space for a new puppy to be bred in these conditions. You are encouraging them to breed these dogs which are not OFA or CERF certified, have no temperament guarantee & are typically unhealthy.
Go to a shelter or an ethical breeder. no puppy mill and pet stores.
TLprincess 4 months ago
Petland Canada has a organization called Pets For Life, which is a rescue foundation and is in all of their stores. There's a farm for the dogs to get rehabilitated and socialized before being brought to the store. They are also SELLING all of their dogs and not getting any more puppies so the stores can do adopt-a-thons with rescue foundations.
ChristinaaGee 4 months ago

Tatertott33 6 months ago
This is so true....we went to a petland near where we were at the moment and saw 3 pure breed vizulas we took out one of them who looked sad and it was coughing and sneezing and they said they'll give it medicine but they NEVER did.....If people don't buy from these puppymills they will run out of business. People will rescue dogs from there and give them proper health care.....If you buy them then YOU have to deal with all the major problems they have.

Hmm
XJproto 6 months ago

Again, I'm not sure about the states... but I can guarantee Canadian Petlands are a wonderful place.
alananicole55 9 months ago
@alananicole55 Reputable breeders care about where their puppies go. They want to be an active part in finding that pup So no, they wouldn't give their puppies to pet stores to sell to people. Therefore, no, Petland Canada is NOT a good place and the breeders who sell their puppies to you are NOT reputable.
mmorlino 1 week ago
@CarlTrooper
Thousands of dogs are on death row waiting.

puppy mills is inhumane but i think there is a reason y ppl buy from pet store- saddly

Learn to spell while you are at it.. seperate=separate?
whiteeyelet 1 year ago

They may not be human, but they are babies none the less. Petland needs to be shut down along with all the other pet stores who buy from puppy mills. Buying a dog from petland is not rescuing it. The only way to shut down the cycle is to do it the same way all business close. Stop creating the demand! Make sure you and no one else you know never buys a puppy! Rescue or buy from a reputable breeder, they will want to meet you, and will allow you to see the whole litter and the parents.

honestly you are helping by not buying these tell the people buyying the puppies were they are from no matter what the pet shop owners say they are ow from breeders breeders will NOT under any cercumstances sell them to a pet shop it will help do not buy them because you feel sorry for them because its makes it so much worse by not buying it the store ring the owners asking for a refund so the owneers do and then later the dogs are traced to the mills were they are rescued from that Hell life

instead of buying from puppy mills, they should become shelters and have homeless pets up for adoption, instead of for sale

I just don't get how puppy mills are legal at all.

i used to work at pet store in NH and most of our puppies came from hannah's online puppy auction (that way the store could not get traced back to the mills because they weren't buying directly from the mills because they had almost got shut down years before for that) also even if you are a heartless person and don't care about the suffering of the dogs in the mills pet stores are a huge rip off they would buy the puppies at only auctions for $40-$80 and sell them anywhere from $1500-$3000

As far as Petland goes, they're literally creating a profit cycle by supporting these mills for PM owners.
lindsaykatp 2 years ago 5
places.I feel bad for those that are already there. Please please BAN the puppy mills and the stores who support them!
KAbigD 2 years ago 9
True that, It's like some kind of cycle, if you buy from those stores/places like petland you are supportin them, and they'll keep buying puppies from those nasty puppy mills, and the puppy mills will keep breeding. That's a really nasty business. I have 2 dogs, and I am trying to get my female spayed, because she had puppies a month ago. I'll make sure those puppies will go to a good home. And no more puppies from my dogs. I love my dogs and i would hate it if they would of ended up in those
KAbigD 2 years ago 6
I have two mutts. I rescued one from a dirty home & poor conditions at 5 wks. They were give aways & I asked them to keep him until he was 6 wks old (minimum litter time). They agreed but gave the rest of his litter away early so I went & got him. Wish I could have taken more. This wk, I am bringing home a rescue dog. A 4/5 mo puppy who when found was almost dead. I can hardly wait to get him home. How can anyone be so cruel to such wonderful pets?
handsong316 2 years ago 4

I wish it could stop.. please :(
BitterMakesSweet 2 years ago
breaks my heart to hear, see and know this. Basterds
BitterMakesSweet 2 years ago 2
I don't believe anything petland says.
their employees make comission on selling animals, so you have to keep up the sales to remain a favored worker or they can fire you. I don't think they would refuse a sale cause I think they're greedy, commission on selling them seems un-ethical, and I'm not convinced when they say they don't use filthy puppy-mills

Dressage-Freak is such a liar. Petland is on the news all the time for selling puppy mill dogs! Did you even pay attention to the video and the rescue people speaking while saving the animals???
catcher032062 2 years ago
DressageFreak I bought a puppy from petland, She HAD parvo, not past tense, I brought her home and she HAD it.
Don't clown your bullshit about dog's "rendered healthy with no possible health issues"
A week after she was bought, I went to petland and asked for the 'breeder' she came from's info, I called her asked if I could come and buy a puppy she said yes, I went out there, Absolutely repulsing. If I wasn't so in love, I would bring my dog back.

jayxxramboxx 2 years ago
why dont they just shut down the mills? that would be the smarter thing to do than shutting down petland.. you guys are idiots.. if you stop petland there is still going to be mills.. then even more dogs will not be saved because they are not getting purchase.. your hurting the problem not helping it.

SaMiJ1982 2 years ago
This is why I do not like to shop at mass commercial pet stores. Just buying from them is allowing them to continue with cruelty to animals. Most mass pet stores do not even train their employees to clean cages efficiently and you end up taking home animals that die young. Buy local. Many of my local pet stores get animals that would be put down in the shelter if they stayed any longer and use the outdoor enclosures that go around their entire store, as well as featuring fliers of oops babies.
Alldara 2 years ago
reply to dressagefreak that is an employee of Petland...Unless you personally visited the facilities where the puppies come from then you cant say they are not from a puppymill.

Puglove1415 2 years ago
Ok so this is what I know. Pet stores get their puppies from brokers and the brokers get their puppies from puppy mills that is a proven fact. I think if you want a dog either do what cougarbait731 suggested and go to a shelter or a rescue I do know that Petsmarts animals are from rescues because I have fostered a few cats and dogs for them, second buy a dog from a breeder one that will let you go to there house so you know that they are not running a puppy mill.
Puglove1415 2 years ago
and has anyone noticed that these places are in the states? people who says all petlands do this are unbelievable.
DressageFreak 2 years ago
they ask question to possible owners about fencing, exercise, whether the dog will be tied up outside and left alone or if someone will be home.
Any responsible breeder will tell you that you don't really make a profit breeding.
littlechilla 2 years ago
I come from a family that breeds dogs. My grandma did and now my mom does (golden retrievers). So I have been quite involved in the whole process as well.
A responsible breeder breeds to better that breed. They do testing on the parents for possible problems with hips, eyes, heart, or any other breed specific genetic disorder. And if they don't get positive results they don't bred.
They spend money on dog shows and obedience/agility/hunting training and trials to earn titles.

I think its illegal to sell dogs in stores in my country...
lofgren88 2 years ago
That is correct, and rightly so. I wonder why nobody seems to be advocating a ban in the US.
gschjetne 2 years ago
It's also illegal for pet stores in my country to sell dogs and cats.
You always have to get them directly from the breeder, the former owner or a rescue shelter. That way you always know where the dog comes from and additionally there is no way to create a demand from one source so big that puppy mills could exist.

i WORK at a petland & first the petland i work at does NOT get puppies from puppy mills. ALL the puppies must have their 1st shots BEFORE they even come in the store. 2nd they all come in HEALTHY. we have a health warranty so obviously puppy mill puppies can't be under a health warranty. the OWNERS bring the puppies in & they are not for sale until WE send them to the vet & are rendered healthy with no possible health issues. before they are for sale theyre here for atleast a week to settle in

well just have a look at the clip...maybe you live in a fantasy land??

Your employer is making a fool of you.
gschjetne 2 years ago
so where do you get the puppies from?
NickieW0809 2 years ago
but how do you really know they aren't from places like these? Maybe the sick ones aren't brought into petland and you don't know the truth behind the sellers who come in?
I applied at one, and Petland employees make commision off the animals they sell, and if they don't keep it up they get canned. Commision on selling animals, sick. So then I asked If sale can be refused to ppl who don't appear responsible pet owners, she said yes but maybe she didn't like that question, dont believe petland
101101101777 2 years ago
No need to investigate. They all come from puppy mills. No reputable breeder would ever sell a puppy to a pet store. Ban both the stores and the mills.
gschjetne 2 years ago 15
there is a problem with your logic.
