I am not complaining all the time, this is one of our national traits which I hate, but my friend has to decide- are they rebuilding or are they in good condition. New ones, of course, are in great condition. However, I live in Gdańsk, one of the biggest cities in Poland, and many of our main roads are a simple disaster.

@VossPL I travelled across GDR all the way to Poland and stayed there a fortnight just a few years before the "iron-curtain" falls down. What I can recall about the roads is that it made an enormous difference when you crossed the border between West and East Germany. It gave me the impression to be thrown back 40 years back or so. Roads and expressways were uneven and dotted with potholes. I must say that Polish roads gave me a far better impression at the time.

Poles are kind of strange people, who complaining everytime and everything. Polish roads are in good condition definitely and are rebuilding. There are a new motorways, which are one of the best in Europe. But Pole will be complaining.

@VossPL and also, the roads on this clip look so unsafe to me, compared to what we have now! On the year this movie was made (1972), 17,000 people died in road accidents in France. Nowadays, the death toll rises to 3,800. Not only our roads have become more secure but the quality of cars has improved and a drastic repression on speeding and drunken driving, from our successive governments has allowed us to reach this figure. But there's still a lot more work to be done for DUI driving.
