I recently rediscovered an album he did with Ravi Shankar called Improvisations. His tone on this album is unbelievable, velvety and "fat" like Rampal. It seems to fill the room.
@ferociousgumby......I have post today one song from "Improvisations" with ravi shankar & bud shank...thanks again for the idea ;-p.......it's the theme of satyajit ray's film "Pather Panchali"....i love so much that film (i think i'll review it tonight).....i have post also another song from "Flute 'n Oboe"......Greetings from Italy!.....
@MonkeyIslandBlues ~ Thank you SO much for posting Shankar + Shank : Theme from "Pather Panchali." It's an INCREDIBLE cross-genre adventure, and I LOVE it.
Does anybody know anything about the cover photos? Are those the musicians' children? Think how old they'd be now, probably senior citizens. But isn't it true Bud Shank is still alive??
@ferociousgumby....I don't know about the children in the cover...i like to think that they are the daughters of bud shank and bob cooper....me too when i see the pic i think how old they are now....about bud shank.....unlucky....bud is dead on april 2, 2009 :((((
Oh yes,l please, I would love that. I since have remembered more tunes, though I can't remember the titles of them, so hearing them would be fun and a real pleasure!
Oh I want and NEED to hear this LP again as it brings back a huge rush of memory. I used to listen to it when I was a kid and knew nothing about "jazz" or even what it was, except that I loved to listen to this I'd love to at least see a playlist, as I can't remember all the names of the tunes, except I can hear them in my head. MORE, PLEASE!!!
@ferociousgumby...Thanks for the comment! It's the kind of comment that i love to read......ok if you desire i'll post soon also the other tracks of this album.....me too i love so much it....i listen it often on my iPod..i think i'll take it on the desert island.....
Only 58 views. Probably my favorite flute player (who doesn't play flute anymore). Used to listen to him in New Zealand in the '60's, overlooking Titahi Bay, watching the surfers and the waves rolling into shore. This is a lovey piece. (I'm thinking of another piece he did - Debussy? or Ravel? - called Pavane Pour Une Enfante Défunte). Ravel I think.
@jazzflutist ......Yeah you say right...."Pavane Pour Une Infante Defunte" is a piece of 1899 by maurice ravel....Good answer! it was on a beautiful album of L.A. Four with the same name.......i think i'll post it soon......
