  • Can you please send me a link to where i can buy the sticks needed to build the box kite? Or the name if the sticks spelled out for me. I would greatly appreciate it :)

  • @nimrah1020 Good luck with your kite. The sticks are called dowels. You can buy them at any hardware store like Lowes or Home Depot. They have them at arts and crafts stores too like Michaels,

  • I would like to construct a larger version of this kite. I am trying to figure out a way that I can make it so that the kite can be taken apart for transport.

  • thnk u sir... good n clean tutorial:)

  • Thanks for these videos they are great!!!

  • can we use something other than plastic and how strong do the winds have to be?

  • @FAGchannelCF You do need some wind. Doesn't have to be real strong. Box kites are deceptively easy to fly. You can try using some kind of paper. I think it would work, but might be prone to tearing.

  • @FAGchannelCF You can use tyvex paper its thin like paper but strong line nylon. it's a little expensive but well worth it.

  • This video was very helpfull. I made the box kite using table cloth plastic which is a little stronger than dry cleaning plastic and this Kite went up just as promise. you can view my video also. youtube gitou2g. Epicfantasy did a great job explanning the steps by steps.

  • can we use something else to wrap it instead of plastic? it looks kind of plain

  • we used bamboo skewers this time- will it still work?

  • thanks for the advice- now we can't find kite string anywhere- is there possibly anything else we could use like sewing string perhaps? our other friend used that and it worked! also we'll show you another vid we made on another box kite we made this time its like yours and please check it out. thanks

  • what paint could we use on the plastic? Thanks

  • me and my friend are working on it on sunday- can we paint pictures on it and what paint do we use on the plastic? (most suitable)- also , will it still fly if we add ribbons, gems and material roses on it? for the string part our friend used so=ewing string- will that work too? thanks!

  • @FAGchannelCF you have to add as little weight as possible. I would skip the gems and ribbons until it flies. Once it flies then you can add some things!

  • I'm doing this for a school project! but i'm scared it wot fly ! could we use plastic and then paint pictures on it - will that still fly?

  • @FAGchannelCF yes, good luck!

  • So this Box Kite does NOT need a TAIL right?

  • @789Moonsinner That's right, no tail is needed.

  • @MrNanoboots Wow, nice idea. I never heard of an octagon kite though. Wondering if it would work. Might be a nice project. thanks

  • can you do a video on how to get this kite up in the air. im having trouble getting in the air and i followed and used the same materials as you.

  • my box kite won't fly........... im having trouble... please help me!

  • @aquazkoi Got any pics? I will take a look. And, how was the wind? Might try a windier day!

  • Pretty cool ideas, Very helpful. Thank you for uploading this.

  • ur a life saver O_O

i needed to make a kite but i didnt wan to make an ordinary one but a box kite and now i know how! thanks :D

  • @ElAiNelikeswaffles You are welcome, Have fun, I think box kites are amazing!

  • woo just finished this 4 school :D thanx u rock

  • Not only does it make as much sense as a bumble bee being able to fly but someone actually made one a long time ago, not the sort of thing you could make by accident.

  • @brettv8 You are so right! This makes as much sense as a bumble bee being able to fly! Yet it does!

  • @epicfantasy Hi there, have you ever seen a broomstraw kite? You make them by using a sheet of notebook paper and two pieces of a weed that grows in fields and roadsides( I'm not sure of the name, but I hope you know what I'm talking about) You simply criscross the broomstraw diagonally by poking small holes in the paper, and where they cross, poke a small hole for your thread( sewing thread) then give it a try. balance it by stripping some of the straw away. It flies in the lightest breeze.

  • very clever however I dont think its smart to fly a kite in a storm?....

  • how do you do that

  • Where off to the store to buy the stuff and give it a go.

    Good Vid.

  • @Hutzpah123 Have Fun! My box kite flies easily. Seems funny that such a peculiar shape actually flies!

  • i fly.

  • Do u have a lip piercing??

  • hi, i know to make a traditional mexican box kite, i agree a line across of mid body kite it's better.

  • Does anyone know how to make a twisted box kite? I've already made the normal box kite =3

  • @Sakura9iure hmm, Twisted box kite? never heard of it but it sure sounds interesting!

  • you dont even show how to make it

  • how long does this design usually stay up in the air?

  • @hulabuloo2509 This design is pretty much like any other kite, as long as you have a fair wind it will stay up.

  • bsmbahamas

how much does the dowels cost

  • @bsmbahamas I can't exactly remember I think it was around a dollar per dowel at the home depot.

  • i am making a kite this month one thing i i wud like to see is designs for the traditional kite...

my dad show me a trick that u can use the string on the outside to make designs i have a star design by pulling in half of each side of the kite strings makes it shape out a star if u can show me how to make some other cool designs that wud b great

  • @pieman2002 Sounds like a great idea for adding designs to a box kite. I don't however know of any techniques! Send me a pic of your kite when its done!

  • dude!!!! that is obviously "will not fly!!! "

  • THANKS FOR THE VID!!! I had to make one for a class, and this vid was step by step and really helps! thanks again!!

  • @GaaraVSLee19 Actually it does fly very well. The end of the video shows it! It seems like it shouldn't but box kites usually fly very well.

  • can u use wrapping paper or would that be too heavy????

  • Making kites is a gas. Wrapping paper works well and looks great. I also use hot glue for some of the construction. I just came in from flying my box kite. It is always very relaxing

  • I hear you! Making Kites is really a lot of fun. I should do another one like this box kite. And thanks for your idea about using a hot glue gun. It would make things go a lot faster. I am looking forward to spring so I can do more kite projects- YAY!

  • I like the straw trick... That is very resourceful. Nice Vid.. Thanks

  • Thanks. I Had a project at school. LOL

  • Kites are a way to express ones desire to be free and soar like a bird.

  • That is so true and so cool. There is a simple beauty to them.

  • nice tutorial! the kite looks very lightweight it can fly even if almost night... i will make one of that thank's for sharing & tips..

  • Thanks! Have fun with your kite making. It is a fun little hobby. Always amazes me.

  • What city is that park in at the end there?

  • Can you add like pretty colorful strings to the box kite?

  • I'm not doing it right now, I don't have the basic materials, but it looks awesome! and thanks for that trick at 2:20 :D

  • Thank you so much! you are GREAT!

  • i have a question i am at the point for attaching the string do i have to use the kite string? is there any other types of strings i can use?

  • I am pretty sure kite string is what you should stick with. You might be able to use fishing line but I am not sure. You need a pretty strong string that is also very light.

  • I tried to build this...but one side of it was slightly inaccurate in length, and it won't fly. I was doing this for a school project, so it could turn out badly.

However, it's still a unique project to do, and my teacher is fond of me and strange ideas. So as long as I research the history and all I should be okay...

  • hmm, keep trying!

  • what would be a good fabric to make a box kite because i have to make one for school

  • The thinnest lightest fabric you can find. Generally you should use plastic or paper. Even newspapers would work.

  • Thank-you so much for posting this video!

For school, we have to learn about aero

-dynamics and shizz, and like, build a kite.

    This is very helpful! :D

  • Thanks for the plans.I used square balsa wood dowels, and used tiny nails, and carpenters glue, to attach the sticks then finished with masking tape around all the joints to make it more secure.Next step in a couple of days i will buy some foil color wrapping paper, i think it will fly well and look good and reflective.(hopefully)

  • You are very welcome. The foil color wrapping paper is a great idea. Its going to look fantastic. Keep us posted!

  • Box kites were originally created as a means of drying lengths of wet string.

  • How do you launch the box kite?

  • Just like any other kite. Have someone hold it up then wind out some of the string and run!!! Its a very easy kite to fly, believe it or not. You don't need much wind.

  • Great video! Just made this kite for a school project and it turned out really good.

  • Thanks and grats on your box kite. Its a real show stopper. People can't help but ooh and ahh over it because it is so unusual. And nobody believes it can possibly fly until they see it fly! Have fun :)

  • Great. I've got one problem. I'm 43 years old, no kids and my nephew is a totally obnoxious li'l bastard. What excuse do I have to start a project like this? :-)

  • lol! I say that having him run around trying to fly a kite is a great way to tire him out and calm him down :) He will be ready for a nap after that! Gives you some quiet time.

  • im gonna do it, thanks po, Ü

  • You are welcome, have fun !

  • man how tha f that flys

  • Amazing isn't it? Doesn't look like it will fly but it sure does! Beats me as to the aero dynamics of it. Never seen a plane shaped like this.

  • you know whats weird it kind of hard to find kites at store now, only like dollar store sometimes sell them or kmar and walmart.

  • Kites are so wonderful, They are not as uniquitous as they used to be :( Everybody indoors playing video games now.

  • your amazing. thank you for everything you have done, keep rocking! :)

    -amychanelle :)

PS. remember that name, im gonna be famous. ;)

  • Thanks! I have a lot of interesting projects still to come! Going to be fun! Don't forget about me when you are famous!

  • Hey thanks for the video. It was really helpful. I have a question - are we supposed to leave the lanyard at the 14" mark at a fixed point (by maybe tying or taping it) or just attach the lanyard and let it slide on the line? Thanks.

  • The 14" mark works really well for me. I suggest you try it there and then cut and re-tie it if you need to. I am pretty sure just letting it slide won't work. although you could give it a try. That will be part of the fun! Experimenting with the kite and what works best. !

  • Thank you for getting back to me so soon! And thanks for your help!

  • enjoyed it

  • Thanks, This was a fun project.

  • Pretty cool. Will are you gonna be a grandpa some day because your perfect for it!!!!:)

  • Thanks! Lots more projects coming!
