  • LOL The bass players my best friends dad..

  • i doubt anyone would appreciate the ttc anymore to make a song with such a sentiment these days...

  • that song popped erica ehm's cherry

  • Stich ! <3

  • Dude's wearing a really ugly dress.

  • The guy in yellow is my music teacher.

He doesn't really like it when we talk about spadina bus.

  • @sfjtuih who are you? Mr Parker's also my music teacher o_O

  • @MoedigGaming Hi mini-gordon!!

  • @sfjtuih i hate you so much donovan... -.-'

  • @MoedigGaming Mr Parker is my music teacher too! XD

  • Oysh. I've still seen those same busses running today. I get caught so off guard because I'm used to seeing the number of the bus routes all bright, orange and lit up from the distance.

I usually mistake the old busses for trucks or something, cuz they're so dimly lit.

    What an improvement.

  • I'm getting bass lessons from the bass guitarist

  • AHAHAHAHHAHAAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHHAHAHHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • Great song, from back when.

  • Hey hey Groovy mushroom song !

  • this is corny as fuck... and i love it

  • greatest song yo

  • He the singer David parker is my music teacher !!!

  • Ain't no streetcar 510.

  • Old school techno-rap :) love it!

  • I think this kinda bus is still in circulation even nowadays.

  • I think this kinda bus is still in circulation in Toronto even nowadays.

  • My brother passed out on the Spadina bus and got raped by 5 big black dudes. For at least a year after that indident he had to wear adult diapers because of anal leakage. I miss the 80's. Almost 15 years to the date, I shit myself while intoxicated on the Spadina streetcar. Good times.

  • Fuckin 80's hipsters.

  • Although it is very different from what most would consider Jazz, these guys were great. Thinking back they are the roots of my interest in jazz. a few years after this song came out I would take up guitar and start out learning metal/hard rock and branch out into blues then eventually jazz guitar about 10 years after the fact.

Like the Shuffle Demons I was not a purist. To this day, I still typically play hard rock, but with a jazzy sound to my solos.

  • Is it so much to ask, guys?

All I friggin' want is confirmation about my information about my transportation from Spadina Station.

  • It is not possible to understand the Canadian gen-X experience without watching this video.

  • @pchapman905 - For some of us anyway. I tend to think of Gen X experience coming together more towards the late 80's as opposed to the early 80's.

  • @BayviewFinch not true, by early 80s Gen X'ers were taking in pop culture like a sponge being so influenced by everything as preteens and early teens.

  • @LLB9977 - Just a matter of wording. I'd say the early 80's were important too. Just saying that what got coined as Generation X was what was happening with young adults in the late 80's / early 90's, how those young adults were living in ways more than previous generations weren't, such as giving up higher paying jobs for jobs that they actually enjoyed, traveling more, having friends spread out across the continent, etc.

  • Why would anybody dislike this video. . . .

  • Hahahaha this is hella lame

  • THIS IS COOL I FUCKING ROCKED OUT

  • I love these guys. I play this video when I'm in a shitty mood and instantly I'm fixed. Well, I'm good for another 6 months now. Check in later....

  • do they even have a spadina bus anymore?

  • @shim2dawg

    ? Boris Spadina

  • @shim2dawg they sort of dooo i believe its an 77. but it is no longer the Spadina bus! such sadness! first time i heard this song i wondered that too! but not really any more! D: Because i assure you! if their was, i'd hope on the bus, pull out my stereo and blast that noise! bwahahaha!

Its called the 77Swansea bus! D:

  • Also, this song should be remade.

  • Those guys look like the original hipsters.

  • Haha, that guy teaches at my school.

  • See the Shuffle Demons and Kevin Hearn's Thinbuckle Friday, Jan 21st at the Piston (937 Bloor street W). Doors 9pm, cover $10! And Feb 5, we're on the Barenaked Ladies Cruise (Ship and Dip 4!).

  • So glad the bus is a streetcar now....

  • your music teacher is cool

  • This is the first time I've ever seen someone excited to take the TTC

  • Guiness book Hockey Night in Canada theme Sunday, May 30 2004. Any vids?

  • haha torontoo¡¡¡ i miss u

  • The York U Run nearly killed me one day while carrying a Double Bass back to York...

  • How old is this vid? Just asking since the bus is a GM New Look.

  • @Trooper336821

this is mid 80's. nowadays they have a streetcar on spadina...

  • shuffle demons bring joy to my heart

  • 26 people who viewed this have TERRIBLE mouse aim

  • Hooray for Toronto Transit!

Vote for Joe Pantalone on October 25 and we'll actually get to keep riding the TTC around here. Only Joe Pants will save Transit City.

  • They just played a rockin concert in Bancroft ON tonight....awesome!

  • You'll love it..

I'm really teired now but thinking of you..

    Buy Buy U.S.A., Ghana go

You do it --you fetzlerd, I'm sezzled

    That's your Schlumplink!!!

  • O.K. not much has changed except the buses. For my younger Facebook Peeps this was my life....back in day.

  • Their not playing anymore lol the lead guy is my music teacher :)

  • LOL! Those boys sure enjoyed the marijuana cigarettes!

  • Toronto looks different and the TTC is so ugly!

  • Great musicians - I believe this is 1985 when I saw them at Yonge and Dundas in Toronto. Rick Underhill (bs), Mike Murley (ts), Dave Parker (ts), Jim Vivian (b), Stich Wynston (d). All still active but not in this configuration.

  • This is great! He is so right about not having fun on the York U run; the day I graduated I was glad to never have to take that section of TTC again!

  • The end was like a jazz mosh pit.

  • wtf

  • This song is so bad that it's good, haha.

  • This video was obviously made in th 1930s. What are you people talking about?

Rap was hip during the roaring 20s and died out in the 50s. After that the hippies dropped acid in everybody's drinking water and we thought Nixon actually landed on the moon. Which proves I am right and you are a raving lunatic.

  • takomaguy, you forgot hockey

  • HAHA, my old stomping grounds. I haven't seen those old Spadina streets in a long time, obviously. Probably the best thing the TTC ever did with great success in recent years.

  • 77 B on the TTC

  • LOL I always loved this song! Thankfully though, they replaced the Spadina bus with a streetcar! The TTC finally did something right!

  • who else could make a song about a bus route famous. This is a great song.

  • I like the Bathurst streetcar better

  • But Spadina is so much grander. (Especially with old Know College in the centre)

  • Classic 86' cool.... I love Canada

  • i saw these guys when i was down in the staes in the early 80s. It was where i learned to love the Sax !

  • More bus and less dorks

  • Still great after all these years !

  • those GM fishbowls are legends.

  • Awesome!

  • Classic song. But I don't miss traveling on the Spadina Bus. I prefer the clockwork and convenience of the streetcar.

  • What to they teach?

    How to suck?

  • I can confidantly say you know nothing about the present jazz scene in Canada.

  • damn. just love that 80's traffic. Nothing but large cadillac sedans. everyone had a gm n toronto back in the 80's. love it. now its all complicated and diverse. wish i could go back. buses are soo old school too.

  • Canada's a late bloomer. This looks like it was done in '76 instead of '86.

  • @cookiecache2 No Way, this is so 80's the 70's Toronto has a totally different feel. Trust me, Toronto was distinctly 80's in the 80's

  • Right you are - this was the '80's, and fine times they were !

  • What I mean is, this looks like a typical American city in '76.

  • You can't judge Canada off the antics of some free spirits who made a song about a bus route. Also, Spadina is an atypical street in Toronto with more midrise buildings from before WWII. Finally, this could never be in the U.S. because by that time almost every city scrapped its streetcar lines.

  • @powerfulSubtlety: Amazingly enough, American cities are reversing that bullshit decision by building streetcar lines and LRT lines, again...

  • @Neville6000 I've heard about American cities investing in light rail. It's a great development.

  • this is awesome

  • The good thing is that streetcars are back on Spadina and more people are using mass transit. Buses are ok, but streetcars are better. The 510 just kicks ass!

  • I agree, when the buses were on that route instead, those perfectly active tracks and wires in the middle of the street were just going to waste! It was just STUPID! Thank goodness that I've NEVER been on the Spadina Bus! It just never made sense in the FIRST place even when the route first came out!

  • (.Y.) boobies lol

  • Anyone wonder where the members are now? I can tell you about Dave Parker: HE'S MY MUSIC TEACHER AT ST. PATRICK'S HIGHSCHOOL! That's right bishes, my teacher is Demon Dave 8)

  • I just saw them today at the Guelph Jazz Festival! Awesome set!!

  • Jim Vivian and Mike Murley teach at York University. Mike's my teacher for Jazz Theory 3 this year.

  • The bassist and the two sax players teach at york university.

The bassist is my friend's personal bass teacher. pretty gnarly.

  • @maggott354 Mike Murley is the music Director at york university. And kelly jefferson who joined the band in 2007 is the theory teacher at yorku aswell.

  • @maggott354 You are one lucky person !

  • @maggott354 they are playing in Brockville tomorrow at the 1000 Islands Jazz Festival. I rode the Spandina bus and my hubbby an I sang the song the whole way!!

  • @arcfart thats awsome :) If you check out my vids i have one of them of me playing with him (its rock and roll tho, so sorry if tahts not your thing :P)

  • @maggott354

My High School music teacher went to school with one of the Shuffle Demons, but your story is so much cooler!

  • @maggott354 they all teach at york u...

  • @maggott354 they all teach at york uni... actually, they founded the music faculty of york

  • @rocco777 dude no he is still there and his hair is falling out

  • @rocco777

I don't mean to disappoint you, but that's not true. The only Demon who teaches at York is Murley. Dave teaches at a high school. I don't know about the others, but they're not at York. I should know; I go there.

  • Comment removed

  • @rocco777

Also, they didn't found the music faculty. They attended it.

But we do have something to be very proud of: our faculty head was once Oscar Peterson. Take that, U of T.

  • @maggott354 dude you poser you ant to ottowa

  • @maggott354 Damn right boy, was my teacher too hahah!

  • @maggott354 Kewl!

  • had this on vhs in the mid 80's- family wore the tape out luv'd it. The CD is in my player right now. Bunch of fans in Buffalo.

  • Yes! Vivian and Murley make my day! Woot.

  • Saw them live in Ottawa back in 1988 -- fun concert.

  • Awesome song.

  • Just back from Trawna and I really wanted, to ride the bus, the Spadina bus

Late last night when I went to bed I had this song goin' through my head.

    (Somebody please cure me)

  • Just realized that the Spadina Bus doesn't run anymore. Route 77 is now something else, and the 510 Streetcar runs Spadina....

  • the Ossington trolley is no longer a folley because it isnt' a trolley no more either

  • I think the reconstruction of Spadina and the streetcar line have really enhanced it.

BBTW i love this band seeing them live in i ans a half weeks!

  • Spadina Bus.

  • GO SAXOPHONES!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You couldn't make this in an American city at the time. You would have been shot.

  • True. You would have been shot, 'cause this vid is shite. Look, I get it. There are certain things that are uniquely Canadian. Jazz, rap, and hip-hop, aren't any of them. Stick to maple syrup, log rolling, fur trading, ginger ale, poutine (gag!), and other stuff you all do well.

  • We do music well, i.e. Oscar Peterson, Glenn Gould, Rush, Neil Young, Broken Social Scene. We do quite a lot of things exceptionally, and like any nation we make quirky videos. Why are you even wasting your time leaving nasty comments on a video of local significance to Torontonians? What are you, antisocial?

  • My Canadian (native born Vancouver) g/f made me watch this. Does that answer your question?

  • Yes, and I hope you'll appreciate the finer aspects of Canadian culture in the future.

  • Now there you go. I never said anything bad about Canada en masse. In fact, I think your Embassy downtown is wonderful. I have have listened to the CBC since I was a child. I even like Windsor, which the g/f hates. All I'm saying is that rap, hip-hop, etc. are not authentic to Canada. At best any Canadian attempts will be derivative. You all are blowing an opportunity to create your form of music that culd be embraced by the rtest of the world...much like American contributions to the arts.

  • Fair enough. But I disagree that any Canadian attempts will be derivative, because there's nothing stopping any nation from innovating in hip-hop or any genre. I agree, a new form that's uniquely Canadian would be interesting. I'll keep that in mind when looking for new music to listen to.

  • @takomaguy dude, canada has cool stuff too. i live in toronto and it's like any american city minus the dunkin donuts.

  • @xXmeeka27Xx Ummmm, yeah, I saw some of the cool riot you all had.

  • @takomaguy haha yeah, that did suck :)

but seriously, canada is a cool place to live and we have a crazy great music scene still.

  • @xXmeeka27Xx R U kidding?!?!?!? Canada is a great place to live! My personal favs are Vancouver and Montreal! I grew up listening to the CBC. We lived on a hill on the edge of DC. Decent reception on AM radio right after dark and in the morning right before I left for school. You also have a great system that makes sure the food you all get is clean. You also have great public affairs programming. And then there are the universities there.

I love Canada. But this song...

  • I once saw a band called The Sax Pistols.

  • I stumbled upon them playing at the sound of music last night. Awesome show! Hopefully I will be able to participate in the Canada day world record attempt.

  • yeah man so did i they were fucking wicked, everyone was diggin em

  • Yeah man, these guys kicked some funky ass!

  • This "rap" is right up there with Biz Markie—b-list goodness.

  • I'm assuming you've never heard The Biz, because it sounds like you're trying to correct me.

  • Spadina is sketchy... lol

  • i was at their show today

  • same, at port hope right?

  • yeah

  • catchy tune

  • Jack Kiicakajune was the driver in the Spadina line and took me for a free ride that day

Hi Jack where ever you are

  • i guess the Spadina Bus is a Spadina Streetcar now?

  • get on the bus tom green!

  • Hahaha the main singer is my freaking music teacher:P....SPADINA BUS!!!
