The producers and judges chose their songs for the Redemption dance, so Derek could not have picked a different song, people should know this by now. The couples dance to what they are given plain and simple only song the couples get to pick all season long is the freestyle one the rest are for producers to dole out to them. This one was just as good as Cheryl and Gille's Paso to the same song if not better, because Derek twirls that cape like no one else can and Jennifer danced like a pro.

I'd have personally preferred if the dancers had the freedom to chose the music, and that the music had actually been real paso doble music; this applies to all dances really. But alas, people keep bringing it up, and the producers don't care. Love Jennifer, but loved Gille too.

@jewelmarkess The remake is better than many recording I've heard in the past, in my opinion. Many times it has to do with who is singing and not if the song is done perfectly. This isn't the issue of "old" vs "new" but a classical version that the composer intended (the link I provided is to a recent performance) and the pop version. I did hear the version of Nessun Dorma you mentioned to me Bocelli lacks depth (but has a nice warm tone) and Pritchard just butchers it. Regardless, this is habanera from Carmen. @leahbethm Also, and this applies to dancing as well (the best dancing has to interpret the piece not just have great technique), the singer should actually express what she is singing about. It's not a pop song, it's not a stand-alone song that interprets singer's feelings or yours. This is an opera aria, it is sung by a character - in this case a free-spirited gypsy, maybe a bit of a slut) about love; it's also a seduction song. The singer has to express it, not just hit the notes.

Its ok, I told everyone she was chosen to win..Remember Carrie Ann's comment? But the song was Giles / Cheryl's and that finish was her choreo first. He knew that. The jump/catch he did with Brooke. @ReneeDeborah The music was slightly similar - both used a melody of "habanera" from opera "Carmen" by George Bizet (but re-arranged and sung in a way that would get the singer booed off the stage in any opera theater after only a couple of notes); but different arrangements. I think both dances were stunning really, Gilles and Cheryl's a year ago and and Jennifer and Derek, I wouldn't say Gilles was better. The dances were very different.

Derek's version had more drama. If I'm not mistaken I think the Paso Doble is one of the dance styles that calls for the dancers to have arrogance for there character. After all they are fighting against a bull and Matadors usually do have big egos.

@MrReed314 First of all, I believe it's the shows producers who decides what music the couples dance to in their routines, so you can't blame Derek for that.

Second the Gilles and Cheryl Paso Doble is actually much, much different from Jennifer and Dereks, so he is not copying from other choreographers.

Additionally, how many other routines had the celebrity partner been up on the Judges desk, why Kyle was for his freestyle and Brandy for her Argentine Tango.

Jennifer may have had prior exp in ballet , which is different from ballroom, as well as danced in a movie 20 or so years ago where she did the Mambo and Swing, two styles which she did not do for this show.

So quite blowing hot air out of that face hole of yours and realize that in life, there is no such thing as fairness.
