haha when i was in the pit for my high school's musical a few months ago i accidently wacked my reed off of the music stand behind me... i played the whole show with it and it had a huge crack!! i dont know how it worked! the barri sax, tenor/oboist beside me, and I cooked swedish fish on the stand lights... it was very tastey!! you should try that next time you get bored! =D
Well, the best way of explaining it is the fibers become out of line I believe, I'm not completely sure. It will make the note reluctant to come out, and it just doesn't play with the emotion you want it to.
Holy crap...this is by far the best of the bassoon clips on YouTube. I've played about 150 Nutcrackers (all on 2nd bassoon) and as forgiven4ever said, almost fell outta my chair watching this...the best is the mad scramble to make the entrance...ehehehehe.
Being a professional bassoonist,I could really relate to you! I nearly fell out of my chair laughing! In fact, every time I think of it I start laughing! It's great!
