  • ForlornSuicide

This is a really great but thoroughly depressing film based on an actual case that occurred in New Zealand in the 1950s. It involves an obsession between two girls that has disastrous consequences. Very intense performances; Winslett superb--as usual.

  • i agree with 'defpoet28' ... people like poking holes in things and should get over it - kate winslet is amazing ... how about all you haters post a comment on here after being in as many movies as her and being as successful?! ... A cold day in hell that would be =)

  • what's the song? i'm so in love with this song... so beautiful

  • oh my god, this woman can NOT sing. Please shoot her! Great actress, horrible singer.

  • @minpappaH she s not off pitch at all, high notes in voce di testa, she sings in italian, furthermore this is acapella so nothing else gets in the way..and still her voice texture is pleasing! I d give her a chance :))

  • @minpappaH are you CRAZY ??????

  • Anyone know what this movie is about? It looks totally fascinating

  • She has a beautiful singing voice.

  • Mother of God...

  • Whats the significance of her singing this?

  • Stunning voice!

  • she has the voice of an angel

  • i'm crying

  • she is very talented! best voice great actress and very pretty :)

  • I love Kate Winslet. Still, she is an actor who can sing, versus a singer who can act. She has a very small voice which probably blends very well and is quite lovely.

  • @Clara19987

I wanna know what "small voice" means. And she is an "actor"? Since when is she a male? lol You've just made my day Clara :D

  • @ucandoitifyouwantit " I wanna know what "small voice" means. And she is an "actor"? Since when is she a male?" Small Voice = no power or dynamic range, compared to an opera singer with the ability to project without a microphone over the volume of a complete Orchestra behind them. It's not an insult.

Actor = a person whose profession is acting on the stage, in movies, or on television (Oxford American Dictionary) Notice person is used, not male.

    Hope that helps :-)

  • @karinskiable

ooooh. okay. English is my foreign language, so these were quite new for me :) thanks :)

  • @ucandoitifyouwantit "actress" is only used for pulp performers. It is insulting to call a serious female actor an 'actress'.

  • I wish more people knew about this movie...

  • 0:14-0:17 sounds like the last part of Phantom of the opera

  • She sounds like old school Charlotte Church.

  • I was alone in a public bathroom that had a great echo earlier....so I sang this. Lol.

  • Goosebumps!

  • This movie, I have no words to describe it. The way it made me feel and the impact it had on my mind, will last a lifetime, maybe beyond it.

  • For those who are wondering where this came from:

    /watch?v=dPbbkOFilhA

  • nice!!! :)

  • Sweet voice and a sweet blond!

  • I LOVE KATE WINSLET!! i've seen so many of her movies! then i finally saw this one and it completely blew me away!

i've now officially seen it about......15 times and i only just first saw it yesterday

YES i have been watching it basically on a loop!

her performance is so inspiring and so...ugh there really aren't any words to describe Kate Winslet properly i suppose

...if there are any besides FANTASTIC or INCREDIBLE! let me know won't ya?

  • her voice is soo angelic:)

  • She wrote this song too :) She is so talented. I like her song "What If" From Christmas Carol.

  • @desertedsoulx She didn't write this. This is from La Boheme ;]

  • Omg, she sings even better than a nightingale! Love her voice and movies (Titanic is my favourite <3)

  • sono andati fingevo di dormire perchè volli con te sola restare, ho tante cose che ti voglio dire ma una sola ma grande come il mare, come il mare profondo ed infinito SEI IL MIO AMOR E TUTTA LA MIA VITA!

  • I love this song

  • She's so beautiful

  • Haha I go to the high school this movie was set in

  • I definitely liked the film and this scene in particular. I'm really into psychological movies and when I watched this with my friends, I didn't quite get it. It took a little time mulling it over on my own before I understood the whole picture. No, I don't think they were lesbians. I understand that's a fine line they were dancing on, but I really don't think they crossed it.

  • Her voice is so damn beautiful ;) favourite actor!!

  • Beautiful Voice...

    woow!

    amazing!!!

  • I absolutely loved this film. Though the murder was intense... the pure love, imagination, and madness eminated by the girls' friendship never ceases to amaze me.

  • beautiful voice...she is so talented

  • Like I said b4 they where both having problems and on top of that they were really close and there parents were ganna seperate them...When the parents took them apart I guess that might have been going a little to far and I thought maybe the girls just snaped "went crazy" and well u know what happens at the end lol..so were they crazy? And another thing..alot of people call them lovers and well I thought they were alot closer then regular friends so were they lesbians?

  • I just watched this for the first time last night and I fell in love with it <3...And wow I can'r believe it really happened back in 1954!!..But I have a few questionz about it...first of all..Did the 2 girls talk eventually come a little to obsessed with all of that "4th world" stuff they made up and start to think it was real? If you noticed they both had something wrong with them, and they both were having problems with their parents.. "I'm ganna have to finish in another comment lol"

  • what movie is this from???

  • @emobeccaahha Heavenly Creatures :)

  • thia movie was freaky!

  • Kate is a good actress, and this sounds nice ! thank you. :)

  • What a beautiful singing voice! So dreamy...

  • My Lullaby when i was a baby :)

  • shes really great actress and a singer. i had never known she really sing until now when i read her page at the wikipedia. when i watched again the titanic and saw her singing i know she has a good voice.!

  • what is the name of this song?

  • @lovevic52

    Sono andati.

  • amazing!! tnx u

  • kate does certainally have a brilliant voice she has a good voice for singing not like some actresses have to lip sinc thier songs xxxx

  • shes an amzing singer and actress, i think she was great in titanic, that was my favourite film with her in and shes from where im from! Reading ;) xxxx

  • I've seen this film about 30 times now, and this scene NEVER fails to send a shiver down my spine. Kate's voice is just...so far beyond what any proper adjective could do justice in describing it. She is truly an anomaly when it comes to talent. And for anyone who has commented on this video and said, "That's not her voice," or, "It sounds okay," Kate has more talent in her index finger than you do in your entire body. Deal with it!

  • @defpoet28 Wow, calm down. Her voice, regardless of whatever bravado YOU believe it deserves, is infact musically AVERAGE. She of course has a pleasant voice, but honestly, nothing special.

  • @defpoet28 lol that's TOTALLY her real voice! It's identical to her speaking voice :D

  • wow.. it seems like the korean movie called Memento. what a tears....

    LOVE IT!!!!

  • Is there nothing that she cannot do? Kate Winslet is nothing short of talented.

  • @UndergirlHaven Most people are sort of good at lots of things. But sometimes you find someone who is just brilliant at one sort of thing. Kate Winslet is a performer. Truly and completely.

  • She always has tears in her eyes. gd acting. big wow

  • wow, is it really her singing? She has an amazing voice. Would love to see this movie, I love off kilter movies, but where do I find it, I mean I don't want to spend extram time on looking for it.

  • The song is titled " Sono Andati ".

  • That's Puccini! Boheme. She sings nice, but her Italian must be improved... what an accent ;))

  • This movie was so weird.

  • i no

  • it's not weird. it disturbing though.

  • I honestly don't care what the naysayers have to comment on with this video. Kate's singing voice is absolutely beautiful. This scene never fails to give me shivers!!!:)

  • Thank you - i couldn't have put it better myself :)

  • She looks like a young Lisa Gerrard here

  • I love Kate as well, and her voice is lovely, but this isn't her best effort (she entirely dodges the upper octave at the end). To hear this song as performed by the greatest soprano of the century, search "Tebaldi sono andati."

To hear Kate at her best singing, watch Sense and Sensibility.

  • Well, Kate ISN'T a professional soprano, and she wasn't portraying one either!

  • @badpdx

I must say you're right....Sense and sensibiity had her best singing :)

  • Love her voice, but that song was a little creepy... And I sing in Italian as well...

  • Oh man, I'm italian and I love Kate but her italian is sooooo bad XD Una notte - Once at night fingevo di dormire - I pretended to sleep perché ????? (it's impossible to understand her here) ho tante cose - I have so many things che ti voglio dire - that I want to say una sola ma grande - and another one come il mare - as huge as the sea come il mare profondo ed infinito - like the deepest and everlasting sea sa il mio amore - my heart knows that è giunta ... - it's time to...
  • LOL! Oh well - she does have a beautiful voice.

  • yes, she does have a gorgeous voice indeed :)

  • The aria is actually from the opera La Boheme by Puccini. Sono andati?- Are they gone? Fingevo di dormire- I pretended to sleep. perché volli- because I wanted con te sola restare.-to be alone with you. Ho tante cose- I have so many things che ti voglio dire-I want to say; o una sola, ma grande-or one thing; as large come il mare,-as the sea; come il mare profonda ed infinita-as the deep and infinite sea; Sei il mio amore- You are my love e tutta la mia vita!-and all my life!
  • romagnolo1989, it seems english speakers are cursed with being able to understand the most butchered english from nearly any source, while our attempts in other languages are met by sniffing bastards feigning confusion over audibly immaterial pronunciation/accent diffs. re your incident, problem damned likely not kate's.

    yes, i know it's a 2-year-old comment. don't care.
