It is night time. There is smoke billowing behind the car and gunshots can be heard. The driver hasn't got the view that the cameraman has and it appears that the van is being surrounded. I disagree with you that there is a clear path, people can be seen surrounding and blocking the van. People only stop surrounding the van and making a way after he starts accelerating hard. While I find the video hard to watch, I believe the driver acted out of fear & duty, not aggression.

Do you see with your own eyes how people are behaving on that square and how they were behaving before this car crashed into the crowd?This accident happened in front my balcony and I saw everything. The protestors were not dangerous at all, they were trying to reach the square (which is around half a mile from the location of this accident) to stand with the other Egyptian protestors.
