  • great sounds

  • Brian wilson=syd

  • I wish I had a time machine.

  • imo, Syd was arguably the best song writer in the floyd. If they had the studio equipment for his songs that they had for dark side....

  • If Syd never left, there would not have been Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, nor The Wall. But, I wonder what the fuck else would have come out......we will never know. What a shame. Syd was only to Pink Floyd and not like any other to another. Syd's story is unique to himself. No other musician or group had a Syd besides Pink Floyd. And for the record, neither LSD or Mushrooms will kill you, unless the mushrooms are extremely poisonous. whats up with all the ignorance in here?

  • Favorite song<3

  • if Syd had stayed in PF, they would have broken up by 73'

  • @gayskunk why do you think that?

  • syd barret is to pink floyd what Morrison is to the doors or Lennon is to the Beatles

  • Here's what would not have happened: Dark Side of the Moon, Shine on you crazy diamond, the Wall, or anything else that was dedicated to Syd.. He would have probably taken them in the direction of octopus, gigalo aunt, and effervescing elephant, which would've been cool in its own way granted, but I'm glad they worked out the way they did in any case. Just saw Flaming Lips do Darkside tonight and they killed it - wizard of oz segues - vocal jams - truly awesome performance.

  • Pink Floyd would have never been what they became if Syd had stuck around. Sorry to say it but things could not have happened any other way.

  • @funkrophilliac you never know....history has many tricks up its sleeve....I would like to have to opportunity to just see...even inside a crystall ball...what would've happened if Syd had carried on leading The Floyd????It would be enormously interesting...it goes without saying that I'm talking about Syd with no drug problems whatsoever...

  • I know I'm going to get cursed for posting this here, but I prefer Gilmour

  • @ledzeppsam fuck na brutha. me too.

  • @ledzeppsam fuck na brutha. me too.

    and i love zeppelin.

  • Only Syd could do this

  • @mahatmacote

It wasn't just the drugs that made him the way he was, that would have happend without them (probably not as quick as it did). It was the pressure and sudden rise to fame that made him wild and a short while later a recluse though the excessive drug taking probably would have spead up this effect.

  • Some of these comments are just stupidity in text. Acid is a mind altering drug that can have lasting effects. Like a facelift isn't better than what nature gave you, using chemicals to alter your mental state doesn't improve anything either. Barrett was an enthusiastic young musician who became inhibited, reclusive, withdrawn and alone. If that's not a warning about drug-taking then I don't know what is

  • this song actually isnt stoned alone; stoned alone is a song written by syd with the opening lyrics "sitting here all alone i get stoned".

  • Some heavy metal riffs and the great music is played...

  • best song ever

  • Yet another example of how people who use Cannabis make better music.

  • 1:31-1:45 has a reggae groove :D

  • @harveydents I'm not saying that Gilmour is not good or a genious but Syd was really great he was crazy

  • Pink floyd are died with barrett.. Gilmur is not a genious as him

  • @oscurosantem1 god you are a moron

  • @oscurosantem1 you are sooooo fucked in the head its ridiculous, if it wasnt for dave the pink floyd would have never been as big as they are

  • @sabbath994 Dave brought a whole new sound with him.

Heavy guitar solos. What we know of today as "The Gilmour" sound

  • This is my kind of music. & Progressive rock :)

  • and he is male, male, male, male no doubts about it, never a stupid english queer, but male, male to the extreme! Male Male Male! That simple thing that seems imposible to find in this world, a man with balls! So stoned alone is experience, feeling, mind and soul, BIG BALLS!

  • Stoned alone just unbeliable! Didn t you hear syd whispering? pay attention, things that just a great genius as him can create, its like a fshsfshsh no doubt it s syd. I hope one day this beatiful man come out from my mind, because HE IS A DRUG, at least to me, please leave me in peace! sorcerer! you are a dammed sorcered syd! but your madness and tenderness fill and empty space, i love you, lunatic!

  • This is in F. Syd Barret is the man

  • your right they aint dopeheads! there mushroom trippers hahaha songs like time and comfortably numb are just to much in relation to drugs, i mean taking away the moments that make up a dull day!

  • Comment removed

  • The post-Barret Pink Floyd was superior. They've made more masterpieces than Barret ever did in his solo-career.

  • @Hupsibasse

    I really have to agree...

  • "Acid" (LSD-25)does not fry nada-one has to be like Syd, predisposed to schitzophrenia and it is relatively rare to have any drug induce any permanent psychosis.I know that personally and medically from various doctors who specialise in the field that I have discoursed with about such topics-any other information is inaccurate and scaremongering.

Nice psychedelic jam I must say and ideal for the experience-it is designed to be so, though of course it is excellent in any state.;P

  • @mike666nz ya thats what ive been tryin to explain. nobody believes on any of floyds more popular songs.

  • @hihihippl -some ppl are thick and have issues-lol.You cant explain to a brick-WE know the truth and thats what matters- as well as the others with a modicum of knowledge and experience and similar taste-PF would not have existed without Syd and I wonder how theyd have gone if he hadnt been :prediposed".You should see some of the comments on other Syd clips where I have said the same thing and all these ppl chime in saying- he wasnt schitzophrenic, his sister said this and that-he left reality

  • @mike666nz hear hear!

  • @analfrost -:D Thanks-I like yr handle btw -;O lol. These ppl who comment do not have a clue what the hell they are talking about if they have never had a trip in their life, let alone a toke.LIke the morons and vested interests who made it and other naturally occuring things like fungi and plants illegal and a "crime"- against who I dont know-oh thats right- them and "society"! Wankers the lot of them I think :D

  • yea man i agree, just listen to this shit... way before its time... its garage rock before garage rock started to take hold

  • was david gilmour in the band with syd at this point or was it 68 when he joined

  • Very impressive, very impressive.

  • itz a shame that Syd fried his brain with acid...otherwise he wouldve still been with the floyd...he was a god...still is in my book

  • the best part of the song is that everything is just doing its own shit...and you can only listen to it fall in place

  • Somebody do a cover of this!!!

  • the referencing musically to stoned alone is a off variation of blended crescending accrescents informaivelly deriv ative to how pulsating aviation flights can be and all of the electrical tuning dissonance allebriates assigned poles to wattz volting operational testing so the thing is more or less a drill of technical rock

  • are you on speed?

    actually, very well said!

  • @MORPHEOUSAWAKEN tell me, as your lexicon seems to be remarkable, what does 'inforaivelly', deriv ative', 'wattz' mean?, in fact what does your life mean? prick

  • dont call them dopeheads. they are better then that

  • @Mackcanada10

Only Barrett was really the druggie you might sayt. the rest of PF didnt really indulge that much. how could they write such brilliant songs stoned all the time?

  • @Mackcanada10 Drugs are a beautiful thing if used correctly, they can open up your imagination and bring brilliant ideas together and make masterful composition come to life.

I'm glad they did drugs because their music might not sound the same that it does if they weren't experimenting with crazy shit

  • What's interesting about this is that it came after his supposedly losing his proverbial shit on the American tour. Hmm... Maybe bi-polar, but certainly not as crazy as the legend Waters has built up about Roger Barrett. They didn't abandon him either. They kept working with a person they've called a 'crazy diamond' on his solo outings, and live performances into the early 70s.

  • @Pomeray8

I agree with your assessment of Roger Waters dealing with Syd. There are so many Xenophobic people out there, I guess cause they are feeding their egos judging people in distress/affected.

I can not find early Floyd, do you know if you can by the CD's of Floyd w/Barrett, or do you have to get Vinyl??

  • piper at the gates of dawn should be readily available on CD and syd has three solo albums ( the madcap laughs, barrett, and opal)

  • i love this song.

i wish it had been released with better quality

  • Brilliant! I can clearly see in this song Syd going Supernova in his annus mirabilis of 1967. After that the psychotic breakdown, the abandonment by his band fellows, Madcap, Barrett...and then darkness fell upon his wonderful mind. Very sad...

  • 2:22 - 2:33 is my favourite part

    I love the guitar there.

  • this is great

  • This is probably the most underrated floyd song ever. I think its one of the best songs ever

  • well it was never released on a n album of course it's underrated

  • Syd Barrett was a God in the 60's ..Man I wish he stuck with Floyd...he would made them even more immortal than they already are

  • Huh, never thought of that... Imagine pink floyd as we know and love them but with all five of them on all those fantastic albums!

  • @pritishsai He probably would have stuck but his frequent acid use and odd psycotic behavior drove the other members to kick him out in 68 shortly after the release of A Saucerful of Secrets. I always wonder where Pink Floyd would be now if they kept Syd...

  • @pritishsai But He couldnt stick with them, he lost the plot mate. missed ggs, miss rehersals. he was gone before he left

  • @pritishsai if you pay enough attention to the lyrics and music throughout the career you might notice syd never really left. he stayed "inside" and projected changes outward. he gaves his bandmates their dream by singing from the inside-out. were we are living (outside onecells(f)) , is just an idea of were we can go. Waters, Wright, Gilmore, Mason are really inside syds mind, pink floyd is the sound of his universe. we are oNe, but oNe is lonely so oNe Dreams of one another.

  • @EtherTrogg8 I've yet to decode your 'oNe'.

But, I find this to be very true!

  • @pritishsai I don't think so...the rest of the band would have been forced to watch as he slowly lost his mind. During his later shows with the band, he wasn't in the condition to play anything. He would just stand there and whack the strings on occasion. He got even worse after that.

  • @thewriter1008 I also think his issues came and went like waves. He could have stuck around and had great influence at times. He never lost his mind, just figured out life and didn't enjoy what he found.

  • @pritishsai sure he would have he would have made them the best underground british band ever i case you didnt know said better had to go to a mental hospital because he tripped out on alot of lsd

  • @pritishsai yeah but he would have died earlyer because he did so much drugs all the time when he was in the band

  • Way to paint with a broad brush. "Drugs" don't shorten your life expectancy by a specified amount. Syd didn't snap due to "tripping out on a lot of LSD!" Albert Hoffman, the man who first discovered the psychoactive properties of LSD, dosed himself regularly until his dying age of 102. Everything I've known about Syd points to schizophrenia.

Psychedelics can bring schizophrenia on sooner than it would have without them.

Drugs don't kill; improper use of drugs kills.

  • @Azliane ah i see

  • this is so amazing! i love the sound of this, and the feeling it gives me

  • what a speedy trip... deep and continuous... progressive

  • This is Syd/Pink Floyd, but the song is not Stoned Alone.

    "Stoned Alone

A Syd Barrett song written in 1966. Very little is known about the song, apart from its opening line "Sitting Here All Alone/I Get Stoned". The song may have been performed by the band, but it was never recorded"

  • sounds like a nice line , "sitting here all alone i get stoned" do u know any link for it ??? pls lemme know ... thanks ....

  • you took that right from wiki

  • Oh yes I did

  • lol.

  • this song is also known as stoned alone too

  • holy shit

  • pure gold ...

  • yeah this is syd

  • Syd influenced Hendrix. His guitar olaying peaaked in '66 and there are no recordings of his most brilliant live flashes, unless of course Nick is still hiding them.

  • have this song on a bootleg from holland - it`s syd allright

  • this is exactly what being stoned is like xD

everything is just doing its own thing and ur just observing

  • is syd!!!!!!!!

  • one of the best songs in the world. If anyone knows other songs like this, please tell me.

  • They would play this song in the north when people would always demand singles like "see Emily Play and "Arnold Layne". Syd and the others got fed up with it and would play this instead. However, the audience would soon riot and throw things like bottles and coins at them. Roger Waters still has a scar from one of the riots.

  • This might be an early work of Pink Floyd with Syd Barrett. It is a bit heavy.

  • proto metal

  • Holy, ca ca, Pink Floyd is also pioneer of the heavy metal then.

  • actually david gilmour was ine of the people who invented the distortion pedal.

  • sounds like sabbath

  • black sabbat sound

  • I hear quite a few riffs that sound an awful lot like the Prety Things. No doubt they influenced the floyd and vice versa.

  • syd is perfect

  • syd is perfect but this is dave!!

  • Wrong! This is Syd playing at northern shows in England. Dave wasn't in the picture yet.

  • A-ma-zing.

  • Brilliant

  • amazing O: Just like Pink Floyd and their other songs.

  • pink floyd is amazing!

    hexrune69-i "wish you were here"lol

  • this is barretts floyd

  • Somebody give me a cheeseburger

  • that's Gang of Four, conspicuously missing from this site!

  • Listening to this song while high is quite an experience.

    I highly recommend it.

  • yeah I HIGHly recommend it too. :P

  • i love how it starts out really mellow and evolves in to this swirling chaotic psychedelic whirlwind of a song. i love pink floyd

  • Nice! I've been looking for this...

    Never heard the whole version

  • tabs dont even exist:S

  • ITs amazing wish i was there.

  • what is said at the very end

  • Excellent, they were the best floyd days with syd

  • Reaction in G was an experiment going from G to the F chord in slashing Binson echo. This is probably why Nick Mason doesn't care for the early days. He probably thought going back and forth to two chords was boring. While Syd was over there gushing through his magnificent lysergic visions....what a bummer.

  • syd is god

  • all the straights who'd turn up to hear emily, got this instead! Quality. Wanted to hear this 4 years.

  • quality

  • Give in to leaving, there hasn't even been a care.

  • Must have been very heavy in 1967! This was before Blue Cheer. Only Hendrix and a few were this heavy.

  • thanks for this, i love the early pink floyd days!

  • must be veeeerrrryyyy early days, but good find anyway
