The grocer's children eat day-old bread, moldy cakes and cheese, soft black bananas on stale shredded wheat, weeviled rice, their plates heaped high with wilted greens, bruised fruit, surprise treats from unlabeled cans, tainted meat. This one of The Grocer's Children is actually my favorite, in how she delivers the lines. The first time she recited it, without the camera on, afterward, she paused, looked down a bit and then said, "That's sad."
