Don't worry. you were just on the same airway. Planes pass right over top of each other all the time and people dont know it. Thankfully if your going 001 to 180 your odd and 181 to 360 your even altitudes. And you can't be at 38500 in Class A airspace. it must be even or odd.
I think it's a pretty amazing experience to see planes fly by when they get close. I remember the first time I firsr ever saw this, and was very shocked at the speed they pass by. You wouldn't think it when you look to the ground out of your passenger window and look as if your flying pretty slow.
Not even remotely close. As a 727 pilot, I can tell you that this goes on all day, everyday. That was normal separation. The 2 crews and the controller never even gave this a second though. Close? Oh, brother. I'm glad I fly freight and not a bunch of nervous passengers.
Thanks for the comments. russbug1 stick to you fat people videos, you excel; likeabat you need to focus on retirement, "choppers" are for younger people; and all people that have commented on this video myannacone and 777cpt included, need to learn English grammar, the title of this video is a question. As in an inquiry.
Nice Vid but unfortunately, in RVSM airspace, there could be a 1,000 Ft. separation between opposite direction aircraft and 2,000 between same direction.

If there wasn't any air at that altitude, needless to say, you wouldn't be flying there.

6nm horizontal separation and 1000ft vertical for comfort. If ATC is needing any closer they can cut it down to 2nm if required.
All you flight sim kids who think they know it all.... jog on and play with your joysticks

Not near at all. He's far off. I was coming into Atlanta and had a 767 right off our 757's wing. Landing at same time. Awsome...

Well...retirement is still 25 years off - but as far as the "younger" people thing...fortunately I never grew up in the first place. LOL!

P.S. 25 years if the age 65 PRM goes through.
