in my opinion i think she should of won. i know kevin and barbra sing two different styles but barbra has an amazing voice. kevin has an ok voice to me.
Skinners final performance was horrid. I like him, but she blew him away in the finals. She probably did not win cause America didnt want to give it to another Opera singer after giving it to that baffoon Neil E. Boyd in 2008. He was horrible compared to Mattson. She was MUCH better than him and he won. Opera singers have finished 1, 2, 2 the last three years.
People that don't like her singing have no respect or understanding for true music and talent. Opera is the hardest kind of music anyone could ever sing, she had the greatest talent that i have ever seen on this show.

Barbara didn't win because she has a talent that alot of other people have. Kevin's talent is very rare. When he sings, it goes straight into your heart and you just can't help but feel the emotion that he brings out in songs. Barbara's singing does give me the chills, but Kevin's singing is so much more captivating. It's no wonder why the judges and most of America preferred him over Barbara.
Yesterday in Roumania (Eastern Europe) the big prize to the "Got talent" show was awarded to the guy who had the worst life story, orphanage, hard work since childhood, stuff like that. Everybody says that the prize should have gone to a future opera singer, a great countertenor voice. Oh well, we all live in Amerika (Rammstein FTW)...
I suspect the reason she didn't win is because most Americans today have no concept of the value of real music. The musical melody doesn't matter nor does the talent of the artist involved... if the music has a beat (loud) and whoever performs makes a lot of screaming and dances around a great deal with lots of visual aids, they will be popular and probably win fans all over the country....
I think she could win any European version of this show, not because america has better singers but because the majority of americans do not appreciate true talent as we do in europe. Yeah, i guess so too. Especially that the judging of the competition is through public voting. So the appeal of the music also counts. They were both loved by the people but i also think that Kevin occupied the bigger place on people's hearts! Just my opinion.

I cant stop listening to this piece. The beauty, the sorrow, the emotion, the despair in her voice. I am truly moved to a place that is beyond words and human expression. The tone of this song foreshadows the dreadful injustice to follow, when America decides that genuine talent takes second place to nationalistic ideals. There are times when one wishes there was no winner. Both Skinner and Barbara are beyond contests of any sort, having everything a real performer needs to have. So I consider WE were the real winners after watching and listening to them. Thanks to both.
Ok, Padilla is a sweet and brave woman. She also is gifted. She's a fantastic soprano for someone who's not professional and has no full training, She's a mother, works at home taking care of her family.
For those reazons she's absolute awesome. But she's not a truly opera singer at top level. She lacks tecnique and training.

she didn't need to win to get the exposure she'll need to succeed. Sometimes second place is best for an outstanding talent -just like Adam Lambert--fewer restrictions on the career to follow.
I remember this AGT season live and I recall Barbara's events. In my view the reason she came in 2nd to Kevin is because all the young girls voted for the 'cute guy' rather than a talented woman. AND because Kevin's backstory was based in the Katrina tragedy. Kevin was a charming guy but really Barbara was America's talent that season. If racism was in the mix then to hell with the bigots. I think it was more about gender privilege than about racial privilege, & support. Barbara= my choice
@gadgetqueen128 Totally agree. They mix up talent with what they call "being a genuine person", "singing from your heart" etc. At least in this case. Or they vote because of the back story. If this show is going to be taken seriously, they need to have REAL judges who recognize REAL talent, and not leave the vote up to the public, or at least not entirely. Otherwise you'll continue to get bad results due to people voting with their emotions and not with their reason.

No doubt a beautiful and powerful voice, and I did not see the performance of the winner. I'm also not an opera expert, but from what I have listened to, the only criticism I could see with her is that she sings vibrato throughout the song. I had a voice teacher once who said there is such a thing as "too much" vibrato; in essence, a song can be oversung. Of course, this isn't judged by music experts, so I don't know if that was a reason for her not winning...
Live in UK and didn't know til now she didn't win!! What a shame, Kevin is a lovely guy...but she is so much more talented!! That performance gave me goosepimples!

Actually, as you can see, in America's got Talent & Britain's got talent, you'll never see the best singers win... They're always voting for people such as dancers or groups who won't be famous a long time ...

I cant stop listening to this piece. The beauty, the sorrow, the emotion, the despair in her voice. I am truly moved to a place that is beyond words and human expression. The tone of this song foreshadows the dreadful injustice to follow, when America decides that genuine talent takes second place to nationalistic ideals. There are times when one wishes there was no winner. Both Skinner and Barbara are beyond contests of any sort, having everything a real performer needs to have. So I consider WE were the real winners after watching and listening to them. Thanks to both.

Ok, Padilla is a sweet and brave woman. She also is gifted. She's a fantastic soprano for someone who's not professional and has no full training, She's a mother, works at home taking care of her family.
For those reazons she's absolute awesome. But she's not a truly opera singer at top level. She lacks tecnique and training.

I remember this AGT season live and I recall Barbara's events. In my view the reason she came in 2nd to Kevin is because all the young girls voted for the 'cute guy' rather than a talented woman. AND because Kevin's backstory was based in the Katrina tragedy. Kevin was a charming guy but really Barbara was America's talent that season. If racism was in the mix then to hell with the bigots. I think it was more about gender privilege than about racial privilege, & support. Barbara= my choice

@gadgetqueen128 Totally agree. They mix up talent with what they call "being a genuine person", "singing from your heart" etc. At least in this case. Or they vote because of the back story. If this show is going to be taken seriously, they need to have REAL judges who recognize REAL talent, and not leave the vote up to the public, or at least not entirely. Otherwise you'll continue to get bad results due to people voting with their emotions and not with their reason.

The fact that she was born in Mexico also makes her 100% American, America is a continent don't forget that. I think she also became an U.S. Citizen if that's what you were trying to say... All People in America, North, Central & South are considered americans. It's a diferent concept of being US Citizen. These two concepts can't be mistaken.

I don't CARE if he is southern, or if he is a country musician, HE SUCKS AND THIS SHOW IS ABOUT TALENT GOD! I broke our TV remote when I flung it against the wall when he won, I WAS SOOOO PISSED AND I STILL AM!! I fund it hard to understand the travesty and irony of Barbara Padilla NOT winning Americas Got Talent but someone singing like Nielson won it. Lots of people can singing like Kevin skinner but only a handful of people (apart from the professionals) can sing as good as Barbara Padilla. Was it fixed? Do Americans really have such a bad taste?

No doubt a beautiful and powerful voice, and I did not see the performance of the winner. I'm also not an opera expert, but from what I have listened to, the only criticism I could see with her is that she sings vibrato throughout the song. I had a voice teacher once who said there is such a thing as "too much" vibrato; in essence, a song can be oversung. Of course, this isn't judged by music experts, so I don't know if that was a reason for her not winning...
