Leonid Vitalyevich Sobinov (Russian: Леони́д Вита́льевич Со́бинов, June 7 [OS May 26] 1872, Yaroslavl – October 14, 1934, Riga) was an acclaimed Imperial Russian operatic tenor. His fame continued unabated into the Soviet era, and he was made a People's Artist of the RSFSR in 1923. Sobinov's voice was lyrical in size and tone, and it was employed with discerning taste and excellent musicianship.

This small bit of film means the whole world to me. This fleeting glance of the "nightengale" of the Bolshoi singing one of his signature pieces and the most haunting of Tchaikovsky's romances for voice is a treasure greater than the crown jewels!!! The magic of Sobinov's sublime tenor artistry defies analysis. He was the most perfect Lensky, Lohengrin, Romeo, etc. of his time and his expressive, glori- ously beautiful, poetic singing embraced the composer's deepest desires! Merci!
