what's crazy is, is that he is way right. i am at least 25% faster barefoot, w/o heel strike, than with shoes. but barefoot hurts in most conditions. so this is amazing. I WANT SOME!
There already is a wealth of scientific evidence for the concept both from health research and biomechanics and engineering studies; a summary and references can be found on the healus running website.
We are well into a two year project, which very soon will give extra direct scientific validation of the concept. Have a look at the FP7 project HEELLESS website.
I run in Healus shoes for two years now. In the period before I often had stiff calves and suffered with my achilles tendon injury.
Running in the Healus shoes is more rolling and after races I have no stiffness in calves. The shoes help to me to perform good in training and races and I have pleasure in running again!
The more cushions the better! You can also run wrapped in a snug blanket with a cup of creamy cappuccino strapped to your styrofoam helmet. Also tie up some soft pillows to the bottoms of your shoes and run on the comforters arranged one next to another on the ground. If any of this things costs less that 300 USD, you aren't a real runner.
Well yeah, but it is *new*. Give it a few yeas and we'll see how many elite athletes have switched over. If it gives a real benefit, it'll be used. Time will tell.
I thought that too at first, tho' maybe not much more than a regular trainer. However if you look at the animation in the video, the foot lands flat when running, that padding compresses. So it might be bad for posture when walkng around, but I guess t's be good for running.,
This is crap. He only ran about 20 yards. The video and information is biased. It's obviously being used to help sell the product, rather than provide an honest account of whether or not this is a good running shoe.
This is a joke. Great that you are not able to strike on the back of the heel, BUT you are further off the ground and you lose even more proprioceptive feel - which makes it more difficult for your body to feel the ground and run with proper posture. The further your foot gets from the ground, the worse off you are going to be.
not nessicarily. it isnt an increase from the ground its a cut off from the heel and a shock absorbing end. the mind can direct where to go even with out feel, wich may be applied due to the force from the bounce from the ground to begin with.
I'm not exactly sure but I'm betting that it's because when you run in your spikes it's forcing you to use different muscles than you normally would which causes inflammation and soreness in those muscles - which I guess you could call shin splints - but I think of shin splints as lots of little tiny stress fractures that occur when the force of impact in your stride is very high - like when heel striking. But I'm no expert - maybe check WebMD or something.
you get shin splints when you run in spikes too much because they are made to get you from point a to point b as quickly as possible, so they weigh much less than your average trainer shoe. to make the spike much lighter, they have to take out some of the support from the heel and arch area
By reducing the stress on your heel - you can still stride the same way it seems, it just places the stress of impact closer to where you want it to be to reduce injury and strain.
i would love trying this out. my experience is that i tend to heel strike more on longer distances at slower paces often resulting in pain in my arches.
This is great, I can see how that would help me immediately. I don't run on my heels so much anyway due to an injury. Cheers for the video, a major manufacturer like Saucony should incorporate this design, get the man some royalties.

Anyone know where these can be purchased online?
I just hope this inventor patented it, otherwise expect the major shoe companies to copy this design and profit from this blokes hard work.

Hi, not available as yet.
They are still in the development phase but a small batch of prototypes has proven successful.

You are talking crap. This video is for those that know what running is about.
I know that the major problem in running is not durability but the shock from moving body weight from a foot to another.

what about shin splints from running on the toes too much?
dylansorensen 3 years ago
That's not what causes shin splints. Landing heavily on the heel causes shin splints. This will help :P

then how come then when i run in my spikes to much, which force me to land on my toes, i get shin splints? :S
