We rescued a dog once. Too many reasons to list why it turned out to be a mistake. I had the heartbreaking task (as you did) of returning it to the rescue shelter. My daughter got up at 5am that morning and ran away with the dog to save him from being returned. It was a heartbreaking situation but one that had to be undertaken. Needless to say I found them and did return the dog. Sometimes responsible adults are required to make difficult decisions. I feel for you!
