People leave America and go to India or the EU to get surgeries very often because it's a lot less expensive when it's done as a service for a human need, and not as a profiteering business as if sick people were a commodity.

And social security has a surplus, which is being spent on the military. And medicare is a very commended program. But, i'm sure you view health as a commodity only for the rich.

AND yes the 20% is what our goverment spends, thats 683 billion dollars into the military, social security gets 701 billion and medicare/medicaid gets 793 billion. @stangsaleens7 You're right, it's not just the funding. There needs to be major changes in education. You should see the video "Changing the Education Paradigms". But to suggest that it's because it's publicly owned is nothing short of stupid. And social security has a $70 billion surplus revenue after that 700 billion. And yes, people do die in this country because they can't afford treatment for critical conditions - if you're going to deny that, that's very sick and low of you.

@michaelwuzthere The problem with social security is that our goverment loves to put their hands into it, but universal healthcare, medicare/medicaid will and do suffer the same thing. thats why it will not work as intended, as great of ideas they are, im just being realistic. Plus Every person in the country has the choice on what to spend their money on, cellphones, cable tv, internet, ect. most people can afford healthcare, they just choose not to.

@michaelwuzthere I think even if the goverment controlled it there will still be a profit to be made, say the goverment charges everyone 100 dollars a month for everyone to have heathcare, lets say 1/3 of those people did not need to go to the doctors that year, so what does the goverment do? it takes that leftover money and sticks it in its own pocket, and what if the goverment decides to charge you more then what it cost them? How corrupt is that?

@stangsaleens7 That would be a 'public option' style, which means the 'profit' would be used as a surplus and would be used for public interests. The government doesn't have a 'pocket', it's public money and therefore its used for the public. But I think it's very hypocritical that you call it 'corrupt' when the government makes more money than is spent (public surplus) but turn a blind eye when private corporations do the same on a larger scale. (private profits)

Just like social security, you will pay into it, but the goverment will take that money and spend it on something other than it was entended to do. It is very corrupt because our country does it all the time. And there isnt any surplus cash in this country, we are trillions into debt. constantly getting loans from other nations.

@stangsaleens7 But the difference is that there is no 'pocket' the money goes into - it's all used for the public, except for the military which is used to expand the empire for the benefit of the corporations. There used to be a surplus in the entire budget of this country in the 90s, until Bush came into office and started two wars while cutting taxes on the rich and allowing some to evade taxes completely. Eliminating corruption and cutting public services are two TOTALLY different objectives

But my point is everyone has a choice on what to spend their money on, and alot of people have cell phones, cable tv, and internet. they rather have wants before their needs. if you cut cell phone bill, cable tv, and internet you will have plenty of money to afford healthcare. But people choose not to. People dont have values in this country anymore, its all materialistic thanks to hollywood.

@mediaphotographer For the same reason people travel across the country to get care - it has nothing to do with who pays, it's about what care is available in certain places that specialise in certain procedures. People leave America and go to India or the EU to get surgeries very often because it's a lot less expensive when it's done as a service for a human need, and not as a profiteering business as if sick people were a commodity.
