Waits is the perfect example of the distinction between ability and talent. I get tired of people saying "so and so of American Idol is so talented with their great voice" thats ability (Science) not talent (Art). Waits is evidence that you dont need singing ability to deliver incredible music and a vocal range that suits the melancholy of his music/lyrics perfectly. The music is his canvas, the voice is his paint brush - a true artist.
