this is also a demo of a boss fight they may have dumbed this down so that the boss didn't wipe demo players....i don't think people wana die during a demo. they are trying to convey the scale of the fights to come i'm sure in release this dude will be WAY more challenging than this demo. What I love about GW is the class balance is so much better than WoW. You can switch up skills and anyone can beat anyone depending on what skills they have on their bar and who has the best strategy. Strats play a big role in PvP.
As per the graphics, GW2 has the nicest graphics I have ever seen. Plus their games are always clean. They rarely have bugs and the classes all play so well in single mode or in a party.
I love how people vehemently defend WoW and Guild Wars, I've played WoW for 6 years, as long as Blizzard is challenged by GW2, Rift and SW:TOR being succesful then I'm happy.
Competition breeds success, so stop your biased bitching and and just ope for some MMO competition.
Seriously, in cata...the boss fights are dull and boring, and the mechanisms put in are like "Hold-off" until you actually kill it, Most dragon fights in WoW...a dragon is already sitting there, you run in and tank pulls aggro...no sick mechanics, only sometimes, the tank holds aggro throughout the whole fight, In this game...a dragon comes in, starts wtfsmashing everyone in sight, and you take out "Body parts at a time" I'd say one shatterer arm, is equal to every boss in WoW 1-70.

I just love how the boss fights work in wow, especially after the release of cataclysm, its like solving a puzzle, and when you pull it off, it feels awesome!! idk after watching this video, it just looked like point and shoot, don't stand in that big wall of fire.... Maybe simplicity with better graphics is what you want... But WOW still prevails IMO =P sorry. I like challenges... But i'll keep checking out videos...
Yeah i also noticed the boss was pretty static, btw, the fire wall was caused by an elementalist, you can stand in it and do the whirlwind attack and it will shoot fireballs, or if a ranger shoots through it it will make flame arrows, but dont forget this is just a tiny boss, this boss is like lvl 48, max lvl is 80..i guess they get harder as you lvl.
Also forgot to mention, events scale the more people show up. Bosses gain new abilities depending on the number of players present, just adding this in :)
@jordanrusin1 this is a demo at a convention so the whole game is scaled to easy other wise it would be 100% wipe every time because harldy anyone here knows how to play as they only have 36mins to test the game.

For Guild Wars 2, however, most of that difficulty has been relegated to dungeons and personal story instances the boss ifght shown here is part of a dynamic event chain where people in the persistent world help out. So it's better to think of this fight as an enemy spawner, that must be destroyed, and it damages players as well. Also, this is not the final version of this fight.

You also have to bear in mind, in this boss fight there are siege weapons that you have to protect, you can go in there and revive fallen players etc.. This was a demo, they person playing prolly never played the game before.
WoW bosses are like puzzles because the core gameplay mechanics are just so boring. If all you do as a mage is standing back and spamming fireball, then the boss better have 10 different abilites or else it would be completely boring.

I'm not sure if the dragon is an homage or a ripoff of deathwing (it's certainly one or the other, just compare the two), but I'm inclined to say it's the former.
@avielMenter I can see why people think that. Shatterer is made from obsidian stone, purple lightning, purple crystals, is mostly hollow, and has rams horns. Deathwing is black lava flow stone, magma, and leather wings, with horns that sweep back and up...ohh and they both have a snow plow for a chin. That is it though, black stone and a jutting chin. It may as well be "Purple Lightning" vs "Red Lava".
@frans42000 Yeah, it's largely the shape and the Jaw, as well as the fact that deathwing "shatters" azeroth (yes, that's the word blizzard used). I'm inclined to say it's an homage, though coincidence is not out of the questoin.

This is an area in Guild Wars 2, the boss spawns as a result of a chain of events set off by multiple players at random times. If the boss was to spawn in this area when the game is released, there could be 1 person or an endless number of people here to fight it.

I'm super excited about this game. I played Age of Conan for almost 2 years and haven't found an MMO that has better combat mechanics. Hopefully this will be a PVP oriented game that will please pvpers. Aion was super grindy and 97% gear, 2% luck, and 1% skill.
i wonder why people always compare new games to wow. its not like wow is godlike or something like that, especially for a game thats running to its own grave. and yes everone rips ideas from others, but hey you may try to come up with something original every time. besides most people dont even care as long as the ideas are being used well, and end up as a good if not great game. and to that end im sure Arenanet is up to something great. :)

Nothing will kill WoW until blizzard decides to let it die, and then it will just limp on in a zombified, stagnant form for the next five years. Better MMO's will die simply because WoW has become a monolith.

@avielMenter I can see why people think that. Shatterer is made from obsidian stone, purple lightning, purple crystals, is mostly hollow, and has rams horns. Deathwing is black lava flow stone, magma, and leather wings, with horns that sweep back and up...ohh and they both have a snow plow for a chin. That is it though, black stone and a jutting chin. It may as well be "Purple Lightning" vs "Red Lava".

@frans42000 Yeah, it's largely the shape and the Jaw, as well as the fact that deathwing "shatters" azeroth (yes, that's the word blizzard used). I'm inclined to say it's an homage, though coincidence is not out of the questoin.

nt take me long to decide that the main similarities are the chins. Still, Arenanet's founders...also made WoW. : )

@spanishproject888 Guild Wars 2 has a party system, but the game is mainly made up of people who help eachother just for fun as their passing by. This is an area in Guild Wars 2, the boss spawns as a result of a chain of events set off by multiple players at random times. If the boss was to spawn in this area when the game is released, there could be 1 person or an endless number of people here to fight it.

I'm super excited about this game. I played Age of Conan for almost 2 years and haven't found an MMO that has better combat mechanics. Hopefully this will be a PVP oriented game that will please pvpers. Aion was super grindy and 97% gear, 2% luck, and 1% skill.

i wonder why people always compare new games to wow. its not like wow is godlike or something like that, especially for a game thats running to its own grave. and yes everone rips ideas from others, but hey you may try to come up with something original every time. besides most people dont even care as long as the ideas are being used well, and end up as a good if not great game. and to that end im sure Arenanet is up to something great. :)

The funny thing is wow bases their fan base on accounts made rather then active accounts. I'd rather pay and play something fresh and new rather then bore myself with +10lvl cap expansions and 2004 or older graphics.

Those are Charr from the first GW game. #2: Gw2 has been in development for years, just because you recently saw DeathWing, doesn't mean any dragon that looks dark is a copy. They do not look anything alike (both in size, structure, and color scheme). #3: The game currently runs on default graphics, when it's said that Gw2 can run Directx 10 and more options. #4: I have no idea what you refer to as shallow gameplay, WoW obviously brainwashed you.
