  • Russian mafia shit

  • surprised they did not cut off his hands & head, thats how they normally roll..

  • 7:44 what language is that?

    ...15 million "tavaria"?

  • @VickTheQuick Tholaria....it's a Greek island. Obviously their codename for junk

  • @VickTheQuick I meant Tholaria is a place on a Greek island. The Greek knows his geography even if it's not really Greek.

  • Forget Avon and Marlo, the "Greeks" are by far the most gangster motherfuckers on this show.

  • new people

  • Finding out Frank put up a fight during his killing made me smile. Good ole Frank went down swingin'!!!!

  • frank dying blew my fuckin mind

  • Of all the deaths on The Wire, Frank Sobotka's gutted me the most.

He was a noble, tragic figure that did not get what he deserved.

    Brilliant story line.

  • @cygnalsux1 I donno man his death was not as cold blooded as Wallace's death. Bodie and Poot were his best friends.

  • Prop Joe to Vondas: Where you say you're off to again?

(I like how the Onion-domed Orthodox church comes into view in the background at that point. The Greek and Vondas are obviously off to a mob bolt hole in some ex-Soviet Republic)

  • the greeks were SERIOUS, they had ukrainian hitmen with silencers waiting outside for nick.

  • It's funny. I live in Hampton Roads and was pleased to hear them mention it in this series. Kinda forgot how close VA is to MD.

  • @newsakafias

As to how they're portrayed, the restaurant owner is portrayed as a guy who minds his own business and keeps his mouth shut. As for the car thief, he's portrayed as an asshole who rips Ziggy off. Ziggy calls him a "thieving Greek cunt", the Greek guy throws him out and calls him a "malaka", Ziggy comes back with a gun, he begs for his life and Ziggy blows his brains out.

  • @newsakafias

From the bootleg clips you've seen on youtube, huh?

I own the all the DVDs and can tell you that pretty much the only other Greek is the guy Ziggy steals cars for and (maybe) the owner of the restaurant but he only has like one line, when Marlo gives him the briefcase and is on screen for a grand total of about 15 seconds.

His muscle are from the Ukraine (you can often hear them speaking in Russian/Ukrainain). But they're all minor characters; that's the point.

  • @newsakafias

Actually, "the Greek" isn't really Greek and he even says it himself. He's actually Armenian.

  • What was the song he played?

  • What are they then? Greek, Russian, Ukraine.

  • @WHERESAMERICAGOIN israel

  • prop joe kinda played himself at the end there

  • U could of knocked me over with a feather when he said "im not even greek"

  • Drug kingpins come and go, but the real king stays the king

  • they were jews not greeks. just another example of how the jews control everything.

  • @tjr0ver

Actually they were largely a mix, some may have been Greek, some were definitely Israeli and most of the muscle appears to be Russian or from one of the regions surrounding Russia...they definitely spoke Russian either way.

  • @MrWarrenLO in 1922 there was a pogrom(slaughter) in turkey, neoturks against non turks mostly greeks and armenians!!!the major population of greeks immigrated back to motherland usa and latin america....so all the people had turkish citizenship(thats the reason he says im not even greek!!!in the id papers(same as the greek)thats why he understand turkish when talking to the sailor and says its not the oldways!!oldtimers hate turkish!!!his is greek for sure!!!theyre drinking ouzo tsili brand

  • @MrWarrenLO the muscle are ukranians and balcan ethnicities for sure but the kingpins are greek!!!!!youre right!!!

  • This season was some of the finest television ever. People who didn't appreciate it just don't understand what The Wire was all about. You best stick to Boyz 'N' the Hood.

  • i lav it

  • Marlo's name is his name. But Vondas's name is not his name. The power of the unknown outweighs the known.

  • Somebody know the name of the sound of the intro in the radio ?!

  • joe's funeral march started at the end of this clip here if you listen

  • ON MY DOCKS THIS HAPPENED...!

  • why does the greek and his people still talk in english when they're on their own?

  • @mufc187 That's because they aren't greek lol. Identities upon identities...

  • @MrElucidate yeah, but wherever they're from they aren't english speakers. so why do they talk in english to each other?

  • I like how he just blows his smoke and walks away. This guy can act his behind off.

  • The intro to this clip sounds like one off the game Grand Theft Auto. They should make an XBox game for the wire.

  • his impression when joe asks him "where did you say you were going" is priceless. like "wtf did you just ask me??"

  • @NMFlyer25 How is looking unrealistic? People "rubberneck" and peak at crashes on the highway all the time, this is no different. They see the cops doing something, boss isnt around, so they stare.

  • BTW is that an Orthodox church there at 9:40?

  • @Zwartekaka

Yes. Ukrainian Orthodox on Eastern Ave.

  • I like how good the acting of that guy that plays Vondas is at the end when he talks with Prop.Joe. How he moves his feet everything...

  • damn this shows on point the liquor they were drinkin was even greek

  • There is something i dont understand

where did the greeks get the cocaine from?

    did they make it themselves?

  • @MikefromMadrid They imported heroin not cocaine.

  • @ArtVandelay1983

if they imported it why did they need all those chemicals?

  • Nick will probably go down as one of the most boring characters in the history of the Wire

  • @lildwayne21 Nick might have been relatively boring compared to the wilder actors, but he was one of the best characters. U might not even realize it, but Nick was you. He acts like a normal person, responds like a normal person, and feels like a normal person. Hes kind of smart but not brilliant, he gets money but hes not rich, he fights hard but hes not powerful. When u look at it that way, hes one of the most interesting characters.

  • @EZPimpn7 True, he's an everyday dude

  • MrBiggSmoove

    Good observations!

  • Season 2 is in a strange way set before season 1: Before Baltimore became overrun with black-populated ghettos it was a city of mostly white, blue-collar workers.

  • @brwhizz - not at all. it happens after season one. however, a good amount of season 2 takes place on the docks at the eastern edge of baltimore at the port, where there are white neighborhoods and white blue-collar workers. that still exists today.

  • yes one of the greatest shoes ever

  • frank sobotka was a brilliant and heartbreaking character. season 2 really deserved more respect.

  • is there no escaping that goddamn ice cream truck music ITS FUCKING EVERYWHERE

  • "Not just Sergei, I miss Frank too" - Vondas

    poor Vondas

  • did frank know he was going to die?

  • @iRuckiz NO Frank didnt know. Shit the Greeks didnt know until they got the phone call. Then they decided to whack Frank because he was talking to the Feds

  • Man, The Greek guy is so secret, I wish we could have known a little more about him, he seems very interesting, but he's a mysterious character so I guess it would be wrong to know too much about him.

P.S Spiros and Nick are my most favourite characters.

  • 6:51-6:53: Vondas says "My name is not my name"...fast forward to the end of Season 5, when Marlo is in jail and says "My name IS my name"...Now, parallel that to Season 2, when Prop Joe was making the deal with Stringer, and told the story of Charlie Stollers.... "no cred, no street rep"...The Greeks were only interested in business, not the rep...whereas Marlo was more interested in his rep than the business...Ultimately, it was Marlo that fell..Foreshadowing at it's finest....

  • Nice!

  • @MrBiggSmoove Yea you hit the nail dead on the head. Hell the Greeks didnt give a damn about a name. Just like Stollers. But on that note I think Joe told that story to Stinger in order to get him over the hump when it came to crossing Avon on giving up the towers. He knew Stringer wanted to do it, but Stinger wasnt absolutely sure at first. Joe went into that story about Stollers and ultimately convinced Stringer that giving up the towers was the right thing to do....fuck the rep.

  • You pretty much defined even better what I was thinking. LOL

  • marlo didnt fall he's a rich free man

  • @youngboyp True, but he did have to give up the crown, which was basically what it was all about for him. Like he said in Season 3 when talking to Vinson -

Vinson - '...prisons, and graveyards, full of boys who wore the crown...'

Marlo - '...point is they wore it...It's my turn to wear it now.'

And he may be free, but he's gonna be bored too. He can't go back to the game, and doesn't wanna get conned like Stringer.

Anyway, The Wire = the best tv show ever.

  • One of the best shows ever

  • @youngboyp Marlo lost the only thing he cared about which was his reputation. At the end when he confronts those corner boys they didnt know who he was his rep was all he cared about

  • "Lambs go to slaughter. A man, he learns when to walk away". - Greek.

    Great acting!!!

  • 6:17 Vladimir Kozlov answers the door.

  • thats what i thought! haha

  • I like to imagine that in 15 years, Jimmy comes back from being buried like Lester and finally gets Vondas

  • jimmy quit/was fired from the police department

  • Compare "...my name is not my name." to "My name is my name!"

No wonder the Greeks ruled the trade. People like Marlo have serious emotional issues.

  • lmao at how Vondas bitched Prop Joe @ the end

  • Don't cross the Greeks

  • What a tragedy

  • At 4:00 through 4:07, when the worker's surround and look unto Sobotka's body, it's...it's amazingly poetic. A King dead on his throne.

This is genius. Oh my God.

  • completly agree with you. His body appears in the place by which he gave his life.

  • i think the big dude who is the greeks bodyguard is in the wwe now. krozlov or something

  • serge? no he's not

  • That man in the Grey tan is so cool.

  • Damn shame they never got a chance to catch the Greek. But then again, they probably never really had a chance. Guys like the Greek never really go to prison.

  • I hear that talk about the Greeks running thangs and I agree to the utmost. But when Sergei was in prison his boss was Avon.

Avon was the king of the streets and the pen, Marlo screwed things up on them streets.

  • Im not even Greek ..lol

  • ucrain

  • Maybe the Greek just ate a bad lamb once...

  • Lambs go to the slaughter. But a man knows when to walk away. DEEP!

  • one of the best scene on The wire.

  • The Greeks ruled the Wire.

  • True dat

  • I wish the Greeks would of cut off Marlo's head and throw him in the water, that would of made the last season of The Wire all the better

  • best ending ever: mcnulty fishing marlo's corpse outta the harbor

  • That's not what it's about, man.

  • youre an idiot!!!!

  • @aharris82 That would have been gay. Marlo was the shit

  • @aharris82

Life ain't fair, I think that's what they were trying to convey by having Marlo as a free man at the end of the show.

  • Anyone know the name of the song in the very beginning?

  • "he knows my name but my name is not my name." - vondas. this is why the greeks will always be king.

  • verses

"My name is my name!" - Marlo season 5

  • good point CC9

  • @membersonly25 Yep, Marlo's name is his name, yet Vondas' name is not his name proves that the unknowns are indeed more powerful than the knowns.

  • "...of course, i'm not even greek." lol

  • I love this scene.
