  • i like how steve doesnt mention the hoky puck mouse

  • A little question... why the heck in 2011... finnaly OS X has full screen apps???

Windows had this since the 1.0 version!

Seriously do you have (meaning Apple) to advertise this in top 100 "new" features???

  • apple always reminds me of some religious cult, terrible video by the way

  • It's a good thing Xerox never existed, or Steve Jobs would be a filthy liar saying Apple invented the mouse.

  • @FreedInsanity He didn't say Apple invented the mouse, he said Apple brought it to the market.

  • Steve Jobs "weve been very lucky to have copied other peoples ideas before microsoft did, we used every idea from the Xerox Alto", lol mac havnt invented a great deal, neither have microsoft neither invented the mouse.... but a few wacked out hippies from xerox in the 60s layed out the groundwork..

  • Microsoft the Best that Guy is Gay

  • ok i will just make my own computer compony and put what they have done together, first i will call my company MACROSOFT  LOL

  • @heighv haha MACROSOFT!

  • @jehanr lol, wanna make that company a reality with me? hahaha

  • @lingsoong glad you like it!!

  • lol. awesome!!!

  • i geus we all forget the time where we had no choise, there was only 1 OS where you could do your work or have fun ..

now we got choises, and we compare it like humiliating the other... strange isnt it :p

same with girls :p when chicks gets old they function like crap :p

new CHick comes you take them :p

  • @ch18dp1 win7 is awesome. I'll give you that!

  • Apple your gay. Microsoft ftw

  • 1 xerox invented the mouse wikipedia [DOT] org/wiki/Mouse_%28computing%29#Variants

2 click wheel is just a track pad wikipedia [DOT] org/wiki/Touchpad#Operation_and_function

3 muti touch was first used at the university of toranto 1986 wikipedia [DOT] org/wiki/Multi-touch#History

  • Grab a dictionary and look up the meaning of the words 'brought to market'.

And wait… the click wheel is just a track pad? Try telling the inventor of the wheel that it's just a piece of wood cut into the shape of a circle.

  • CRAPPLE.

  • lol... this is obviously a fake

the guy doesnt work for Microsoft and you can hear from the sound quality that its an amateur video/parody...

ive seen better parodies than that though... its not difficult, Microsoft take great commitment screwing-up their products constantly.

  • lol

  • jajajajjjaajjjajjajajajajajaja

  • DAM THAT PAPERCLIP! i luv macs!!! <3

  • lol i really find the paperclip dude annoying! lol XD

  • this is fake dumbass

  • hehehehehehehe

  • apple is trying to take over the world

  • @psychotic919 i say let em, itll make everything a bit easier ;)

  • @psychotic919 they will succeed bwahahaha

  • Apple fan made... fuck u you duche!

  • I know that MS copies stuff(since I'm a mac/Apple fanboy) but sometimes they make the existing tehnology better: xbox 360 controller is, imo, the best on the market and now Kinect takes the tech from EyeToy and makes it better. Ofc the guys at Nintendo and Sony are the most important in those chains but sometimes MS brings something better to us.

  • XD HAHAHA!

  • Its...lol...yea, Microsoft just copy things, but, i like those functions, so who care if MS steal ideas!

  • haha

  • lmao the paper clip

  • I HATE THAT PAPERCLIP

  • @ipeterG123

I see you're trying to write a YouTube comment, would you like me to help you?

  • Didnt Microsoft first bring out a useable, cool GUI in Win95 which every one could use (the theme I use today STILL with Win7). ALSO THE PAPER CLIP IS AWESOME!

  • @DPBdandan139

no, apple first bring GUI to MACINTOSH

  • @DPBdandan139

Actually Windows 95 copied System 7's interface. System 7 was released in 1991, Windows 95 was released in 1995. - Microsoft has copied countless things from Apple, not just the GUI.

PS: Xerox demoed their GUI and mouse to Apple, it's not like Xerox didn't expect Apple to copy that stuff. If anything Xerox wanted them to copy it.

  • Facts:

    Mouse : Xerox 8010 Information System (1981)

Click-wheel : Created by Synaptics in the UK

    Multi-touch : University of Toronto (1982)

    'nuff said.

  • @samuelsantana He said "Brought them to the Market Place" Not Created them, None of the companies above included their technology in a product Apple Did.

  • @sousuke121 As a matter of fact these technologies were introduced to the market (albeit a different segment) by their respective creators (mouse) by another company (multi-touch was actually used by M$ on their surface computer a few months before the Iphone or touch came out).

The point is that to compare 'revolutionary user interfaces' betweek M$ and Apple when none of them were created by either is incorrect. My comments were directed at the video upload and not S Jobs (inacurate) claim.

  • Actually, Apple didn't bring any of those technologies on the market

-HP brought out the touch interface

-A scrollwheel was standard on two click MS mouses and keyboards since it was invented

-Mouse devices were not introduced by apple or MS, but MS did practically write the book on Mouse design from then on (optical, wireless etc)

Mr. Jobs likes to stretch the truth when it comes to gray areas

One could argue that Apple did not introduce anything to the market place because of it's low share

  • Sorry, I thought he was talking about the scroll wheel...

Well anyways, clickwheels were both invented and introduced by Synaptics on machines made partly from MS components or running MS software

  • first brought to consumer computer's by apple

  • Ok, mouse was invented in PARC Xerox but come on, Apple made it available to the average users and entire PC market. Otherwise that poor mouse could've ended up in a PARC technology showroom under the sign: discontinued products or gadgets never realized.

  • no apple did not invent the mouse but they signed a deal with xerox for the mouse any way if apple did not use the mouse we may not have mice today

  • @millymoo6000 then what would we have if not not mice O.o

  • APPLE dont invented the mouse, XEROX did!!!!

  • that's not true!

  • That IS true. Xerox Alto (1972) has a mouse, nope!

  • 1963/1964 Douglas C. Engelbart and William English

  • Ahh but Apple made the MIGHTY MOUSE XD, poor paper clip xD

  • but apple didn't invent the mouse o.O

  • HA!

the guy running the microsoft conference is gay

  • Bill Gates Sucks XD Steve Paul Jobs XD i am using a MACBOOK XD XD XD !!!

  • I love MS (run Vista), but that was hilarious!

Poor paper clip, nobody likes it :P

  • btw mac didn't invent multitouch

  • first of all you mean apple didn't invent multi touch but it didn't what about all those tablet PCS that came out way before it

  • Key word: "MULTI".

    They never said touch screen

  • Macs cant play Crysis.

    Pcs get Viruses.

  • BOOTCAMP

  • VPC

  • Mac = Better!

    Mac4life (L)

  • get a life loser boy

  • what the fuck?

  • "Microsoft surface and windows 7 rulz, thats all"

Are you talking about iPhone.. I'm using it for two years now..

  • Fisher price is more revolutionary than apple. they had mice before apple did.

  • lmao, you guys got a funny argument (manifold and Wincashfast)

  • I hate paper clip. Luckily I have a mac.

  • i change my paper clip to a fat dude with a hat :)

  • its called a wizard smartass

  • Lol this video sucked ass

  • Funny you all keep trying to sound 1337 by using languages I know. お宅? 私にそれとなぜ問い合わせるか。 私はiPhoneを所有しない。 またはちょうどスマートに鳴りたいと思うか。

    I mean, seriously!

  • paperclip is my hero :)

  • Apple is awesome, Ipod, Iphone, and now Mac

  • apple rocks

  • "moomoo1337 (21 hours ago)"

"Sorry, i had grown bored with this conversation"

Oh really? Then why repeatedly post including less than a day previous?

If you are border, quit replying. Simple as that. Or do you have some infantile need to get the last word in?

"Manifoldsky, whatever you say you will never stop being an arse. "

And you, apparently, will not stop being completely misinformed and thus wrong in your statements.

You have yet to make a significant, factually correct statement.

  • Manifoldsky, whatever you say you will never stop being an arse. Anyway, happy birthday computer mouse, 40 and still going strong.

  • And oh yeah, it WAS you who called me out for ad hominem!

That would make you a hypocrite as well as devoid of factually correct information.

In this particular subthread, it is you who has resorted to ad hominem. I certainly have not.

Perhaps you are referring to my comment about 1337 above. You should work on your reading skills.

    1) The comment was a reply to adamhermie, not you.

    2) It was a response to his engaging in ad hominem himself. Bring it=get it.

    3) The statement is true.

    1337=14/v\3

  • Not named 1337 because of Leet, named 1337 because of it being randomly generated when i joined as moomoo was taken.

    You are still an arse

  • And the 1337 comment was not directed at you.

    You are still an idiot.

  • Arse, born and bred, you will still be one when you die alone

  • None of which makes any of your arguments factually correct.

Considering how little of an authority you are on tech matters, I really don't find a need to put much stock in your personal assessments either.

  • Arse, you really are an arse

  • And you're a repetitive idiot. What's your point?

  • The point is you are an arse, i just keep repeating it so it may sink in at some point. Arse, say it to yourself ten times

  • I know what your infantile point is, The issues is still that you don't know what you are talking about and that you have not, as of yet, made a single, factually accurate statement.

  • Arse

  • Yes, and?

  • At least you admit it

  • and? Still no factually correct input.

  • You being an arse is a fact, you replying constantly is more proof, you must be thick.

  • pots and kettles, my friend.

And thick is as thick does. Like not posting any factually correct information. Or even a single citation to corroborate any of your points.

  • Arse

  • moron

  • If you prefer moron to arse its no odds to me, moron

  • Anyone can type insults. Everyone can be an internet tough guy.

Please point out a SINGLE thing you wrote that has ANY basis in fact, and provide citations to back them. Unlike you , I can back up everything I wrote.

LIterally EVERY point you made is wrong. And yet you resort to ad hominem attack to cover your ass. So be it.

I stick by my original contention, as you have done nothing to dispel the conclusion. You are a moron.

  • Arse.

And you had better thank me that you have two new words in your vocabulary, ad hominem.

Learn something new every day, today you have learned that i don't care what you think of me, because you are an arse.

  • I learned of ad hominem from you? You have GOT to be kidding. I was speaking Latin were you were still failing your multiplication tables.

Abi et futue te ipsum sordide liber minimus!

    Stick that up your ass.

    Ass.

  • Arse

  • Moron

  • i prefer moron to arse too.

    Arse

  • You would. One can always stop being an ass, once a moron, always a moron.

And still no factual refutation of the original point, just senseless, childish, and rather oafish name-calling.

  • whatever arse

  • Funny you all keep trying to sound 1337 by using languages I know. お宅? 私にそれとなぜ問い合わせるか。 私はiPhoneを所有しない。 またはちょうどスマートに鳴りたいと思うか。

  • watashi mo nihon go wo hanasemasu

hahaha now ur an otaku speaking japanese

    u know what that means?

    ur a SUPER OTAKU

    and that sucks man

u need a girlfriend like now!

  • In what way does it mean that? And really, you can't even manage kana? And you might want to check your translation software, no one uses "wo" anymore!

Seriously, your concern for my personal life, while touching, is quite off base. I certainly have no problem in that regard.

And I am still waiting for a factually correct assertion on your part re: the original point.

  • well i have problems sometimes dealing with the 4 languages i speak and, nah i dont manage kana very well, i learnt only speaking :( well i guess the original point is that u cant get sarcasm, isnt it?

  • No, the original point was that the the mac GUI was NOT stolen from the work of XEROX PARC, and in particular, the work that led to the Alto. If you had bothered to pay attention, you'd know this. Then again, you have failed to make a SINGLE point even remotely relevant to this thread. Instead you simply jump in with infantile ad hominem and juvenile posturing. What does ANYTHING you have said have to do with either the iPhone, Apple, or Microsoft, or with user interfaces in general?

  • leet speak? whos trying to sound leet speak? =/

  • You are having a hard enough time trying to sound intelligible.

  • =/ yaah otaku nerd, u got me bored so ur fucking blocked from my account, bye asshole

  • Boo hoo. Why would I care about that? You are the one who felt it necessary to interject into a discussion that was over your level of competence. I'm more than happy to see you go. Good riddance.

  • hahaha ARSE u look patethic rating my comments btw, goodbye forever ARSE

  • Um, pathetic is you keep saying you are leaving, have blocked me, etc., and yet here you are back again.

    I state again: moron.

  • ur pathetic fucking +40 years old kid, go fucking get a wife ARSE

  • ZZZzzz....

  • hahaha ur all alone right? not getting bored? haha

  • As someone who keeps replying, even after you claim to be leaving for good, I would think these comments more directly apply to yourself. Then again, we have already determined that you aren't that bright.

And no, I am not alone; there are several of us here laughing at you.

  • HAHAHAHA oh really? that intimidates me, more fags with you?

hahaha, wanna know why i keep replying you?

cause ur funny as hell! go hit the air jap bitch!

  • The issue is not that you keep replying. We have already established that you are a juvenile idiot. The issue is that you keep claiming that you are going to stop and leave, and yet you keep replying.

    そして私は日本語ではない。だれが言ったか私は日本語だった?

  • Oh, and homophobia and racial slurs? Nice addition to you arsenal.

  • Manifoldsky, look up facts before you go on and on and on and on. Also no-one really cares what you were up to in 1977 and no-one but you has the amazing and well needed in todays world ability to hack Sys and Unix. Why do you need to tell us that anyway? Will we all stop being right because you can do that? Are we supposed to be scared? You are a middle aged man who is supposed to have wisdom, stop bullying others. I have a feeling you look like comic book guy on Simpsons, just a hunch though!

  • Sorry, but you simply do not know what you are talking about. Perhaps you should take your own advice. First, Apple PAID XEROX. Second, Apple HIRED a number of XEROX engineers, after XEROX made it clear they were not particularly interested in the PARC research work. They continued their ORIGINAL research at Apple. In no way shape or form did Apple steal anything. Even Douglas Engelbart, the inventor of the mouse, gives Apple the credit for most of the current GUI paradigms.

  • As to looking up facts, had you done that you would have known that:

    1) Sys V Unix = Linux. (are you claiming no one uses that?)

2 ) What I was up to in 1977 (using the XEROX Alto at CMU) is directly relevant to the topic.

    3) What I look like is immediately obvious from clicking on my profile.

Seriously, if you are going to chastise someone for not looking up facts, you should at least be a bit more responsible yourself and follow your own advice. Absolutely nothing you said had any merit.

  • What i'm trying to say is that you are an overbearing bore, you seem to think no-one else has any valid points about computers because you were arsing about with Unix in 1977. So what! I wasn't born until 1977 but i don't tell people they have no valid points because i used to use MS DOS in 1989, the point is you are an arse, not the technical expertise you do or do not have.

  • To what valid point are you referring? Certainly not that Apple stole the mouse or the GUI from XEROX. As has already been shown, this is categorically not true. As this is the only issue being discussed, yes, there are no other valid points.

Are you claiming that you made any? Which ones would those be.

  • The most valid point is that you are an arse, Apple took the wastebasket from Xerox. They also took the laser printer and network card. The mouse was "borrowed" from Xerox as a few ex-employees of PARC designed a new operating system helped by a guy named Bill Gates, who licensed all that stuff again for his own project, now Microsoft is the largest manufacturer of Apple software and Apple only became profitable after Microsoft gave them $150 million for R&D for their MP3s .

  • Wow you really are a glutton for punishment.

That is your argument?!? The Trash can? Really?

Again, Apple PAID XEROX. They also employed their engineers. They did not "steal" anything. Conversely, contrary to your misinformed diatribe, Windows was not even an OS. At its release, Windows was a GUI only that ran on top of DOS. This did not change until Win95, and even then the underlying OS was basically a revamped DOS. This did not change substantively until the release of NT in '93.

  • More importantly, the XEROX system did not even have what we would today call a full GUI. Have you ever used one? If you had, you would know that the only interface to the underlying OS was a CLI. No icons and mouse menus, no trash can for deleting files. It was a blank white command screen into which one TYPED commands. No drag and drop, no drop down menus. And you need to check your timeline regarding MS hiring XEROX personnel. Windows development began years after the first mac release.

  • Re: that $150 million, get your facts straight. MS did NOT give Apple $15M. MS were caught red-handed stealing proprietary Apple tech, and were on the verge of a loss in court that would have possibly meant the death of Windows. When Steve Jobs returned to Apple, one of his first acts was to bring this litigation to a premature close, settling with Gates for $150 million plus a commitment on Office Mac. It was no gift, and in no way saved Apple, who had several billion in capital at the time.

  • The 150million donation was years after when Apple were on their ass

  • Sorry, but you're just plain wrong. Not only your timeline, but also your contention that that money had ANY effect on the bottom line. Apple was NEVER in any danger of failing, and the $150M was less than 1% of their available cash flow, even then.

You are monumentally misinformed, and would do well to do even 5 minutes of research before bothering to make statements.

It has little to do with OSX vs Windows, the XEROX Alto, UNIX or anything else. You just don't know what you are talking about.

  • Sorry, i had grown bored with this conversation, are you still going on about this?

  • You saw it in a movie? That is your source? Are you serious?

n00b? 1) Anyone who uses l337 is immediately lame. 2) I was hacking Sys V Unix systems before you were even born. 3) I USED the Xerox Alto, the machine that you're blathering about. Again, Apple BOUGHT the technology off Xerox, Apple HIRED key engineers from Xerox PARC, and Apple developed over 90% of the key GUI concepts, including overlapping windows, the desktop OS metaphor, etc.

You simply do NOT know what you are talking about.

  • haha paperclip.

the way he said it was funny

  • they stole the mouse from Xerox

  • @adamhermie:

If you don't know what you're talking about, please refrain from posting. Apple most certainly did not steal the mouse, or anything else for that matter, from Xerox. First, Apple paid for the privilege of liberating technology from a lab at Xerox where it would never have seen the light of day. Second, they HIRED Xerox engineers to continue their work at Apple.

Having used Xerox Altos, I find it very doubtful that anyone else who used one would claim Apple stole anything from them.

  • jeez you n00b, watch pirates of silicon valley

  • It is kinda pathetic that you get your information from movies, and find it reliable. I don't need to watch it, I was alive then, and I used that Xerox machine on a regular basis. Get your facts straight.

N00b? You need to point that particular finger of accusation the other way round, buddy.

Then again, anyone who thinks using 1337 makes them cool is automatically an idiot.

  • That paper clip terrifies me! And I don't even use a PC!

  • i was terrified of that paper clip when i was real small.

  • Low blow, man, low blow...

    (But seriously, good job.)

  • funny as hell nice job

  • ROFL!!!!! i love it!!!

  • ha mad funny. i feel real sorry for the nerds who take things seriously.

  • Haha this made me laugh out loud

    Nice job

And sorry to the people who are dumb enough to

    A) not understand the joke

    B) Still argue over apple vs. microsoft

  • I hate that paperclip!

  • wtf does this prove.

  • Apple never invented the mouse It was invented in the 1960s at Stanford and was shipped with Xerox PCs in 1981. 3 years before Apple Macs. The click wheel was also invented by Creative for the Touch and Apple have had to give a small percentage from each Ipod sold for years because Creative didn't let them away with it so stop lying Mr Jobs ( I also hate the paperclip it is a beast straight from the deepest reaches of hell)

  • listen carufully you dumb fuck he says they braught it to the market not that they invented it... please learn to listen before you speak out of your ass...

  • It was already on the market before Apple brought it out, thats my point fucknuckle, see the bit that says Xerox and 1981, duh!!

  • dumbfuck and fucknucle both are funny lol.....lol..lol..rofl...

  • paperclipXD

that's the main reason why I changed to Vista which has Bugs instead of Paperclip:))

  • Just for the record, neither the XEROX Alto, nor the Star, were really what one would call a PC today. It was the size of a small refrigerator, more a mini than a micro, and certainly not a personal. The only things personal about it was that we each got out own "huge" 3 MB 18" across Hard Drive. Star was originally not intended as a stand alone system, but rather networked to mainframes.

Also, it should be noted that the Apple Lisa project started in 1977. The Star did not come out until 1981.

  • Look mate, you are being overbearing, look at your last comment before this, 1 Anyone who uses l337 is immediately lame. Using that as a point exposes you as someone who if he hears something he doesn't like just goes Ad homimem on the other person. Apple did steal the tech, do you own either Apple or Xerox? Do you have insider knowledge that no-one else has? Using a piece of equipment doesn't mean you run the company, i don't own Ford because i drive one. I also do not care what u can hack, sad

  • Yes Apple made the mouse public, but they haven't invited the mouse.

  • they were the 1st one 2 make the mouse good.

  • The apple mouse is revolutionary? with 1 button and a to small wheel?

  • that is the mighty mouse, it has 4 buttons but yes, wheele to small.

And please dont think i am a mac fan, i just tell the truth

  • But Macs created the mouse in the first place.

  • hahhahahahhahahhahhahahhahhaha

  • micrsofts are so dumb lol

    macs rule

    lol lololololololol

  • haha lol

  • LOL great one made me laugh

  • LOLZ Paperclip

  • There is difference betwen innovating, and bringing to the market. Almost nobody knows that mouse have been innovated in Xerox' Palo Alto Research Centre. But the Xerox management found the idea of mouse stupid, and they didn't wan't to sell it. Then came Apple, and said - OK, if You don't wan't to sell it give us a try.

  • The mouse was invented by Doug Englebart in 1967 at Stanford University when he was working on human-computer interaction. That's also where the first graphic user interfaces were created. That research was subsequently continued at Xerox PARC and Apple Computer.

  • YYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS !

Zerocool818 The mouse was created by apple !!!
